MODERN LIVING

Absolutely takes a peek inside Grove Manor, a stunning, contemporary seven bedroom home in the heart of Essex

Considering this is a modern architectural gem, it’s no surprise that access to Grove Manor is reached via a pair of substantial electric gates. These open on to a long driveway leading to the house, which is set back from the lane in mature, secluded grounds of approximately 6.9 acres.

This is a substantial house, constructed around 23 years ago to an exceptionally high standard and its design echoes the proportions of an Elizabethan manor house. Over the past three years the entire house and grounds have been the subject of a comprehensive programme of remodelling and refurbishment, completed to an extraordinarily high standard. The extensive programme of works has included the installation of replacement aluminium windows in the Crittal style by The Heritage Window Company, a stunning Roundhousedesigned kitchen with Gaggenau appliances and an impressive and very elegant air-conditioned principal bedroom suite occupying the entire top floor.

The accommodation is arranged over three floors overlooking the gardens. The ground floor rooms include a beautiful reception hall and magnificent staircase leading to a galleried landing, a wonderful kitchen/breakfast room opening out into a contemporary orangery and family room/ snug, a south-west facing drawing room, a dining room with a stylish Chesney fireplace, a billiard room and champagne bar, and an office with bespoke furniture. A laundry room and indoor pool complex with doors opening out onto the outside pool and entertaining area are situated at the other end of the house.

The first floor is of reinforced concrete construction and provides five principal bedroom suites (including two guest suites) and a family bathroom. The second floor extends to over 1,600 square feet and is configured as a luxurious principal bedroom suite. Absolutely wanted to discover a little more about Grove Manor, so spoke to the selling agent at Savills Chelmsford, Stephen White.

Q What would you say is the first thing that catches your eye?

A Sitting proudly behind large wooden gates at the end of a long driveway, the sheer stature of the house is very impressive. It’s very imposing and – despite only being built 23 years ago – uses a smaller style of brick which you would typically associate with period properties.

Q What can you tell us about the location?

A The property is set within secluded grounds which offer a high degree of privacy, while Woodham Walter itself is very well positioned with a good primary school and the highly regarded Bell pub. The village provides the best of both worlds; it’s rural so appeals to those wanting an escape to the countryside, yet also sits close to the likes of Danbury, Little Baddow and Maldon which have a range of amenities. Chelmsford and Hatfield Peverel are also a relatively short drive away – providing regular rail services into Stratford and London Liverpool Street.

Q It looks like a property for lovers of leisure facilities. What would we find inside and out?

A The leisure facilities are extensive and comparable with some of the very best I’ve seen. As well as an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, there’s an all-weather tennis

court, synthetic putting green and bunker, gym and a delightful area of woodland that includes a treehouse with zip wire, rope bridge, play area and in-ground trampoline. For those wanting some R&R there’s also an outstanding spa complex with steam room, sauna and heated loungers.

Q How much has been changed in the property over recent years?

A I’ve actually sold this property twice before and I can say fi rst hand that the current owners have undertaken a complete programme of remodelling of the highest order. There’s been a total transformation.

Q How would you describe the interior design?

A The interiors have been very elegantly designed. It’s very high end and tastefully done, reminiscent of the style you might fi nd in some of the best London hotels.

Q Are there great entertaining spaces?

A There’s quite a few to choose from, but the reception hall is particularly impressive. There’s also a wonderful kitchen/breakfast room that opens out into a modern orangery and family room that’s perfect for relaxing in.

Q What do the bedrooms o er?

A There are fi ve principal bedroom suites, all of which have been orientated to enjoy views over the gardens and woodland. The main bedroom is especially impressive, stretching 1,600 sq foot across the entire second fl oor and incorporating a dressing room, marble bathroom and private rooftop balcony.

Q Do you have a favourite room?

A I think it has to be the indoor pool and leisure facilities. They’re simply some of the very best I’ve ever had the pleasure to view. In the summer you also have the option to fold back the glazed double doors to provide access to a private terrace.

Q Are there elements that you would say may surprise people?

A The standard of the refurbishment is exceptional – and I think has to be seen to be truly appreciated.
