STRONG VISION
How Dallington School o ers a village education in the heart of Clerkenwell
In a world of increasingly competitive schooling, teaching to the test, and packing more and more into already crowded curricula, Dallington School is a beacon of alternative education.
Celebrating its 45th birthday this year, the school continues to uphold the vision and values set in place by its inimitable founder and Head, Mogg Hercules. A maverick leader and educator in the 1970s, Mogg was recognized for her work as an outstanding educator with an MBE awarded in 2018. Early parents included film directors, musicians, artists, writers and photographers, who were all looking for something a bit di erent in education for their children. At Dalllington they believe that children should really enjoy their learning and become independent learners: school should be fun and children must have the time to enjoy their childhood.
Located in Clerkenwell, home of designers and architects of all kinds, Dallington has been described as “like a village school in the City”, and it makes the most of London and all its wonderful resources, with frequent trips to museums, galleries, concerts and the theatre, as well as the many green and wild parks and nature reserves nearby. In fact, outdoor learning is a huge part of the curriculum, and many lessons take place outdoors.
Creativity runs through the school, and this summer they are creating a dedicated floor of the building as a new arts facility, incorporating space for specialist art lessons with an artist in residence, Performing Arts and individual instrumental lessons. Children can work on projects and leave them on display, and visiting artists and musicians further embellish the experiential learning on o er.
O eringa liberal, progressive education to children from the age of 3 to 11, Dallington sets itself apart from the mainstream and o ers children the chance to explore their interests, follow their dreams and succeed in anything they put their mind to. Experience for yourself the Dallington Di erence.
