FOCUS ON Blepharoplasty
What is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) removes excess skin around the eyes. On the upper eyelid this can cause a ‘hooded’ appearance. Surgery tightens the supportive structures which naturally lose elasticity with age to achieve a more alert and youthful appearance. It is one of the most commonly performed aesthetic procedures.
Why is it so popular?
• The results are permanent
• The results are subtle and scars can be hidden in the folds of the eye
• It can boost self confidence as it is very difficult to disguise sagging, protruding fat pads, folds and deep lines

March issue highlights
For me, the first sign of spring hasn't been new shoots in the garden, though now that I've checked, they are there. No: my first sense of the season changing came with a fresh morning light that highlighted the shocking state of my windows. The notion of the spring clean is not new, but never has it seemed so urgent. In this March issue we're not just spring cleaning, but we're looking at our homes in the fresh light of a new season. New kitchen on the horizon? We've got ideas and advice. New wall colours? We have suggestions. Or just a few new decorative pieces to add to your inventory – it's all in our expanded Home section this month. We've also got lots of ideas for where to go, what to eat and what to buy, so we hope you enjoy this issue. And meanwhile, it's time to clean the windows.

FROM 29 MARCH
NATIONAL MARITIME MUSEUM
CAombat medic-turnedartist Dan Reisner will be unveiling a series of deeply personal sculptures exploring the horrors of war in a new collection of work titled Idols of the Sun. In 2000, Reisner, an Israeli artist, su ered delayed post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of his army service as a combat medic in Lebanon in the 1980s, in which he treated multiple victims of conflict with profound lifechanging injuries.
new exhibition tracing the changing depictions of pirates throughout the ages and revealing the brutal history often obscured by fiction. While sometimes portrayed as tricksters or scoundrels, pirates are primarily swashbuckling adventurers associated with lush islands, flamboyant dress and buried treasure. Pirates will deconstruct these myths and illuminate the realities of pirate life, including those of the pirates Edward ‘Blackbeard’ Teach, William Kidd, Anne Bonny and Mary Read. rmg.co.uk
William Kidd, Anne Bonny and Mary Read.
Reisner channels his own PTSD to explore the collective trauma of conflict in the hope of shining a timely light on human loss and the ultimate folly of war, and to propagate the cause of peace. Idols of the Sun consists of dozens of small bronze sculptures that refer to Reisner’s continual e orts to process and interpret the stress he su ered and shed light not only on the brutality inflicted on the bodies of the victims of war – presenting distorted, often faceless and sometimes otherworldly ‘self-portraits’ in various states of distress – but also on trauma as a catalyst for positive change. “I realised that if I didn’t take control of my healing, no one else could,” says Reisner. “I began to see my trauma, not just as something to survive, but something to create from. This shift in perception was the beginning of my recovery. I started casting these insights, these very personal reckonings, into bronze, and from that process emerged a series of selfportraits. Each piece represented a step in my healing, a release from the burden of trauma.” danreisner.com

FLORAL tribute
A new exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery looks at the enduring appeal of flowers
Throughout history, flowers have inspired artists, writers and creatives and a new exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery explores their influence on creativity and human expression. Flowers - Flora in Contemporary Art & Culture will feature large-scale installations, original art, photography, fashion, archival objects and graphic design. This exhibition seeks to reveal the myriad ways that flowers continue to be depicted by artists, and their omnipresence within our contemporary culture.
Aside from studies of their inherent beauty and drama, flowers can be symbols, signifiers or metaphors for human emotions and impulses. Flora lies at the heart of myths and stories that inform our cultural outlook and language. Recognised as unparalleled objects of beauty in nature, artists continue to evoke the power and beauty of flora to convey a multitude of messages and meanings.
The exhibition is divided into nine sections, each exploring di erent creative themes and media. The first section, Roots, establishes the rich history of artists depicting flowers and harnessing their symbolic power from the Renaissance through Dutch flower
painting to the blossoming of the Arts & Crafts Movement in the 19th century and onto modernist explorations of flowers in the 20th century. The second room, In Bloom, focuses on works by established contemporary artists created over the past 30 years revealing how flowers have continued to fascinate and provide inspirational material in our contemporary age.
A third room explores the relationship between Flowers and Fashion. People have adorned themselves with flora throughout history. From the high street to high couture, flowers are a source of infinite inspiration, aspirational allure and perpetual appeal.
It includes the jewellery and silverware of Buccellati – known for its distinctive style and hand-engraving techniques.
A bespoke installation piece created by internationally renowned artist Rebecca Louise Law entitled La Fleur Morte takes over a double-height gallery space with over 100,000 dried flowers for visitors to explore and contemplate. A room reflecting on the prevalence of flowers as emblems and content in music, film and literature. A wall of vinyl reveals the recurrent themes that feature on vinyl record covers over the past 50 years. Separate sections on film and literature will also demonstrate how flowers have proved fruitful sources of meaning and metaphor for poets, writers and directors.
Another room is transformed into a digital projection space featuring the work of pioneering French artist Miguel Chevalier. This animated work features virtual flowers and plants projected over 70 square metres which interact with the movement of visitors within the space.
In collaboration with the Chelsea Physic Garden there will be sections of botanical art reflecting on the properties of flowers as medicinal plants and another looking at flowers as poisonous plants. The mathematical principles behind some natural floral phenomena will be explored as will the influence of the annual RHS Chelsea Flower Show. A section featuring superb botanical illustrations, kindly loaned by the Schroder Collection from the Schroder family, reveals how orchids were bred and developed over decades in the 20th century.
The final room of the exhibition features artworks by emerging or early-stage artists entitled New Shoots. The gallery space will be a rich garden of blooms competing for the attention of the viewer and revealing a diverse range of styles, approaches and media being used by contemporary artists right now. The Butterfly's Dream
Chinese artist Zhuang
Zixuan’s art of transformation
As the world increasingly looks East for artistic inspiration, artists like Zixuan (Josephine) Zhuang are at the forefront, showcasing the enduring power of heritage through a distinctly modern lens. Her recent co-curation of “A Manifesto II, Paris” at the Carrousel du Louvre, part of Les Jeux Artistiques 2025, underscores her growing influence in the international art scene. This significant exhibition, a collaborative e ort between the World Federation of UNESCO Associations, the Association Pour Le Développement Des Échanges France-Chine, and the Asian Academy of Arts, drew an impressive crowd, exceeding all expectations with over 50,000 visitors on opening day, 8 February. Beyond her curatorial role, Josephine also presented her own captivating artwork, “Zhuangzi – Enjoyment in Untroubled Ease,” which drew considerable attention. Inspired by the writings of her namesake, famous ancient
Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi, the artwork draws upon his seminal work Xiaoyaoyou (“Enjoyment in Untroubled Ease”) and the iconic allegory of Zhuangzi’s butterfly dream. Josephine blends the fluidity of Western drip and pour painting with the expressive power of traditional Chinese ink-wash landscapes. The result is a dreamlike, immersive experience that explores the blurring lines between reality and illusion, a central theme in Zhuangzi’s philosophy. This 20 x 60 cm piece, created in 2024, is more than just a spectacle; it’s a tangible conversation between centuries, a testament to the enduring relevance of ancient thought in the modern world. Josephine’s background is as diverse as her art. An undergraduate student at Barnard College, Columbia University, with a double major in Art History and Economics, she now resides in New York. Her practice encompasses immersive digital art, mixed media, and traditional Chinese ink-wash painting, demonstrating a remarkable ability to bridge historical aesthetics with cutting-edge technology.
Partnering with publicly listed Chinese electric companies like Tecnon, Josephine drew on their expertise in immersive display systems to bring her vision to life. These collaborations have enabled her to create immersive experiences, such as Wonderspace and Immersive Boxes, that seamlessly blend traditional Chinese painting with the latest digital innovations. These projects, showcased across numerous cities, are not simply digital reproductions; they are reimagined interpretations, breathing new life into ancient art forms. Josephine’s work transcends mere aesthetics; it fosters cultural exchange, acting as a bridge between East and West, past and present. She is not just creating art; she is cultivating a deeper understanding and appreciation for Asian contemporary art and its evolving role in our increasingly interconnected digital era. She is a force to be reckoned with in the art world, a testament to the power of art to transcend boundaries and connect cultures.

Peter Mitchell’s evocative photographs are on show in a new retrospective at the Photographers’ Gallery
Aretrospective of work by one of the leading early colour photographers of the 20th century opens this month at The Photographers’ Gallery. Peter Mitchell is widely regarded as one of the most important early colour photographers of the 1970s and 1980s. A powerful storyteller and social
historian, Mitchell’s photography unfolds a longstanding and poetic connection with Leeds. He has chronicled the people and fortunes of the city with warmth and familiarity for over 40 years.
Born in Manchester in 1943, he studied at Hornsey College of Art, then moved north to look for work and never left. Living and working in Leeds for much of his life, Mitchell treats his surroundings with a

unique sense of care. An essential part of the colour documentary scene in the 1970s and 80s, Mitchell’s landmark show A New Refutation of the Space Viking 4 Mission at Impressions Gallery in York in 1979 was the UK's first colour photography show.
Described as ‘a narrator of who we were, a chaser of a disappearing world’ (Val Williams), his work reveals his love, and at times quirky, o -beat vision, of the people and changing face of Leeds.
This retrospective explores the breadth of Mitchell’s photographic practice. It
brings together his famous series ‘A New Refutation of the Viking 4 Space Mission’, which imagines England as seen through the eyes of an alien from Mars, demolished flats, shopkeepers and their shops, and boarded-up and disused buildings, as well as his portraits of scarecrows. The exhibition marks a return to The Photographers’ Gallery for Mitchell – he first exhibited at the Gallery in 1984.
A chronicler of a changing city, he said of his work photographing the demise of the iconic Quarry Hills Estate in Leeds, ‘I know there was no point in keeping
Quarry Hill flats. But what it stood for might have been worth keeping.’
Calling himself ‘a man of the pavement’, Mitchell continues to regularly walk the streets of Leeds to photograph his beloved hometown today. The exhibition will also include rarely seen works from Mitchell’s own collection, personal ephemera and found objects.

IToku Saké and Cate Blanchett
By EVE HERBERT
nterest in saké has grown massively in the UK. Waitrose has reported a 214% rise in searches for saké and Berry Bros & Rudd also reported a 1,000% rise in saké sales in the past year. And with the market for celebrity drinks proving unstoppable, enter Cate Blanchett.
The double Academy Award-winning actor and producer recently joined Toku Saké, a super premium Junmai Daiginjo saké, as Creative Director. In this role she is overseeing creative strategy and direction, including new product development and innovation. Toku Saké is brewed in Hokkaido, the coldest city in Japan, and as a result it has a distinctly delicate taste with aromatic notes and an exceptionally long, rich finish. Toku is the highest quality of saké available and boasts unparalleled flavours and aromas. It's made with highly polished Yamada Nishiki rice - the best quality rice with which to make saké, and fermented in the region’s freezing conditions. This is a modern saké with tradition at its heart and is made using time-honoured techniques developed over 120 years by one of the region's oldest breweries. A delicate aroma, features notes of banana, honeydew melon and peach complemented by creamier notes of baked apples, fresh bread and slow-cooked plums. On the palate it's light but wonderfully silken with flavours of steamed rice, red and tropical fruits and banana yoghurt. Its well balanced acidity gives way to gentle spice, while subtle yet developed umami provides structure, weight, a mediumlight body with a long and luxuriant finish. It's a delicious and unusual taste, best enjoyed chilled. £155
1 We get wonderful squash delivered from the farm in autumn. I’ve been after the harvest to see them, laid out on racks that extend to the ceiling – a paradise for Halloween-lovers – in all shapes, sizes and colours. I’ve noticed in recent years a better selection in the shops; it is not just butternut squash these days. My favourites are Crown Prince, which has a pale green-blue skin and bright orange flesh, and the smaller Hokkaido squash (sometimes called onion squash).
2 Whichever you choose, this rich, earthy squash is delicious melting into fresh ricotta with little crunchy bursts of sage and pumpkin seeds, and fresh salsa verde. It’s a lovely vegetable-focused dish for autumn.
3 First make the salsa verde, reserving some of the herb leaves as a garnish. Preheat the oven to 180°C fan/200°C/400°F/Gas mark 6. Cut the squash into thick wedges about 5cm (2in) at the widest point, add them to a roasting tin and coat them in a generous amount of olive oil, then sprinkle with salt and pepper and throw in the cloves of garlic and the sage leaves. Roast for about 45 minutes; leave the squash to roast on one side all the time it is in the oven and it will develop a lovely crust.
4 Combine the ricotta in a bowl with the lemon and some salt and pepper and whisk thoroughly, then taste and adjust.
5 To serve, spread a thick layer of ricotta over individual plates or a serving plate, place the wedges of squash on top, spoon over a generous amount of Salsa Verde and scatter with the crispy fried sage leaves, pumpkin seeds and fresh sprigs of dill, mint and tarragon.
Spring Vegetable, Ricotta, Herby Leek & Chard Gratin
Serves 4
INGREDIENTS
For the infused cream
• 300ml (11⁄4 cups) double (heavy) cream
• 1 strip of lemon zest
• 1⁄2 tsp fennel seeds
• 1 fresh bay leaf
• 1 thyme sprig
• 1 shallot, quartered and peeled
• parsley stalks
• 6 peppercorns
• 1⁄2 tsp Maldon sea salt
• For the herby leeks
• 30g (1oz) salted butter
• 2 large leeks, sliced lengthways and washed, then chopped
• handful of finely chopped dill fronds, plus extra to serve
• handful of finely chopped tarragon leaves, plus extra to serve
1 I pop four gratins on the hob to start them o ; we use very heavy skillets in the restaurant, and they can use a little help getting from fridge temperature on a busy night. The cream starts to bubble, and it is ready to go in the oven. I like this dish in the spring months –fresh enough to give you hope with its bursts of tarragon, asparagus and peas but warming enough with its creamy breadcrumb crust to take the chill o a cold evening.
2 To infuse the cream, put it in a pan
“Literally every dish can’t be a summer fruit, – or can it?”
with all the flavouring ingredients and bring to a slow boil, then turn o the heat and leave to infuse for 30 minutes. Strain and set aside.
3 For the leeks, melt the butter in a second pan and add the leeks with a generous pinch of salt. Stir every so often to stop them catching; they need to cook until all the water has gone and they have become soft and sweet. At this point add the chopped herbs, nutmeg and a squeeze of lemon juice. Taste to check the leeks have enough salt and lemon – they should taste buttery but bright.
4 Preheat the oven to 180°C fan/200°C/400°F/Gas mark 6. Combine the chard stems (reserve the leaves) with the asparagus, broad beans and peas in a bowl. Use a separate small bowl to blend the ricotta with the lemon zest and juice and salt and pepper.
5 To assemble the gratin, oil a large tray approximately 20 x 30cm (8 x 12in) or 4 individual gratin dishes. Add a layer of chard leaves to the base, a layer of leeks, a layer of ricotta, then the chopped vegetables. Add a couple of ladlefuls of the cream, then press everything down to compact and submerge, and end on a layer of leaves. Ladle over the remaining cream and top with a mixture of breadcrumbs, salt and oil. Bake for 30 minutes until golden and bubbling.
6 Serve topped with fresh chopped dill and tarragon and a sharp herby salad on the side.
Alternatives
• Use Hispi or spring cabbage leaves instead of chard, but first blanch them in boiling water.
• Diced courgette, wild mushrooms, green beans or fennel can be used in the vegetable mix.
Peach, Raspberry, Almond & Fennel Seed Cake
Serves 10
INGREDIENTS
• 2 peaches, stoned and cut into wedges
• 150g (51⁄2oz) raspberries
• 1 tsp fennel seeds, crushed
• 300g (101⁄2oz) caster (superfine) sugar, plus 1 Tbsp
• 200g (7oz) salted butter
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 3 eggs
• 1 Tbsp Greek yoghurt
• 125g (41⁄2oz) ground almonds
• 125g (41⁄2oz) plain (all-purpose) flour
• 11⁄2 tsp baking powder
• 2 Tbsp demerara sugar
METHOD
1 Peachy, soft, downy orbs, laid out in a single layer, a precious cargo destined for delicious things. The amount of fruit coming in the back door during the summer months is quite ridiculous. It’s crazy that we work for so many months of the year with so little fresh fruit available all winter, and then, when it all comes at once, I panic that we are not rotating through all the di erent varieties or changing the menu often enough, and literally every dish can’t be a summer fruit, or can it?
2 It is in part why we try to pickle, preserve and freeze as much of the glut of fruit as we can, so later down the line in the depths of February we have something to find delight in.
3 Preheat the oven to 170°C fan/190°C/375°F/Gas mark 5 and line a 23cm (9in) cake tin. Put the peaches and raspberries in a bowl with the fennel seeds and the tablespoon of sugar, then mix to incorporate.
4 In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and flu y. Add the vanilla, eggs and yoghurt and stir to combine. Add the almonds, flour and baking powder and mix to a thick batter. Scrape into the lined cake tin, level the surface, top with the fruit and sprinkle over the demerara.
5 Bake for about 1 hour 10 minutes; check it after 45 and cover if the top is very brown. Serve with crème fraîche or double cream and more fresh raspberries.
Designer Lulu Guinness is known for her iconic lips clutch bag, but her collection also includes bags in the shapes of flowers, buildings and even a postbox – plus a new line in jewellery. Absolutely meets her
Lulu Guinness is known for her whimsical and iconic handbag designs. Her playful, vintageinspired aesthetic is behind signature pieces such as the lip-shaped clutch and bags in the shape of buildings, flowers and lipsticks. Her creations always feature bold colours, witty details, and surreal elements. Over the years, Guinness has expanded her brand to include luggage, shoes, and eyewear, and her work is part of the permanent collection at the V&A. She is a fashion icon.
Lulu has always believed that fashion should be fun and lighthearted –something that brings joy and evokes happiness. Her recurring motifs include lips, hearts and roses along with lots of flowers, birds and shells. “As for the motifs I use, Surrealism has always inspired me, particularly the work of Salvador Dalí, who was an extraordinary artist. I wanted to bring that playful, imaginative quality into fashion,” says Lulu. “I love the idea of creating any objects into bags – therefore
why not a lips clutch?” Why not indeed. She first introduced the iconic Lips clutch in 1989, rooted in her love of surrealism and playful approach to design. It now comes in seven colours and multiple sizes, and remains an iconic part of her collection. Flowers have been another continual theme for the brand, starting in 1993 with the Rose Basket. Designed for the concept of having the ability to carry around a basket of roses all day to spark joy, the design continually evolved through the years and has been reinvented in her current Lily of the Valley bags, Hydrangea basket and Chartreuse Rose Basket.
Lulu’s own sense of style is integral to the look of the brand. "My style is very me – it’s just part of who I am and connects through to my brand. Vintage was always my first love and why I lived next to Portobello Market for 35 years. I had my own strong ideas of how I wanted to look, based on a 1940s and 1950s idea of glamour and femininity."
For the last 35 years, Lulu Guinness has been at the forefront of bag history, weaving a tale of creativity, elegance and touch of the whimsy. Born and raised in
“Surrealism has always inspired me. I wanted to bring that playful, imaginative quality into fashion”
London, inspired by the artistic culture of Paris and beyond, the brand's inception was in 1989, when Lulu designed the iconic ladylike attaché case. The idea was a lady's briefcase based on the Filofax, a design that was a huge success and where the brand started. Throughout the years, the brand has cultivated a strong cult following with fans eagerly awaiting each new collection. She says: "I find inspiration everywhere and it’s not necessarily directly related to fashion. I’m inspired constantly by the art world - from surrealism to pop art – and by the work of upcoming female artists who I love to collaborate with if I can. My brand is influenced by my style, vintage markets and things I have seen on my travels."
Last year Lulu launched her first jewellery collection, featuring a playful range of pieces. From iconic lip studs to
elegant pearl drop earrings, and chunky statement lips necklaces, the collection embodies Lulu’ s bold and irreverent spirit. Lips, inspired by Lulu’s own signature
red lips, remain a key motif for the brand. “I wanted to create a small yet perfectly formed collection of pieces that you can wear every day, anywhere. Hoops, studs, and simple necklaces are the foundation of any jewellery wardrobe, and of course, they represent a few of my favourite things.”
And what’s next? Lulu has an amazing denim bags collection launching in the spring, and the flower basket will be updated in a new black Lily basket. Watch this space.

Flawless nails at Townhouse
YEDITOR’S PICK
ou might say that Townhouse is the Waitrose of nail bars. The standard high street nail bar might do a good enough job on your nails, but you won’t necessarily enjoy the experience all that much. But at Townhouse, it’s all about the comfort. In the Kensington branch, you sit at a long curved bar and sip prosecco as you study colour options on an ipad, walls free of those cluttered shelves displaying used bottles of polish. At Townhouse, they are all hidden away. I’ve come to the Ladbroke Grove outpost, a smaller Townhouse with no long bar, but with an equally stylish feel. Gels might be the most popular option here by quite a long way, but I’m not a fan. I don’t like to commit to a return visit for removal, so for me it’s regular polish, and I’m scrolling through the many options. What shape would I like? Here’s where I learn a new word. Usually I ask for square with rounded edges, or somewhere between square and round – and not only do they know exactly what I mean, but they have a word for it: squoval. What genius. I emerge, cuticles clipped, nails shaped and polished in my favorite shade of orangey-red (orand?) onto the rainsoaked street with the lift that only a fresh manicure can bring.

Q What is biohacking and how can it contribute to overall wellbeing
A Biohacking involves using science, technology, and selfexperimentation to enhance physical and mental performance and can include or a combination of nutrition optimisation, sleep improvement, wearable technology, and advanced treatments like IV therapy or red light therapy.
Q For those into fitness, what are the most beneficial biohacking treatments?
A Popular biohacking treatments for fitness enthusiasts include: 1. Cryotherapy: Exposing the body to extremely cold temperatures for a few minutes reduces
inflammation, speeds up muscle recovery, and alleviates soreness after intense workouts.
2. Sunlighten Infrared Sauna: Ideal for regular gym-goers, this treatment uses far, mid and near-infrared to optimise health and well-being by improving your cardiovascular system, detoxifying cells, and alleviating stress.
3. IV Nutrient Therapy: Delivers essential vitamins, minerals, and amino acids directly into the bloodstream for faster absorption, boosting energy, and supporting muscle repair, especially after strenuous exercise.
4. Emerald Laser: One of our leading bi-hacking treatments is the Emerald laser, an energybased wellness device that not
only is FDA-cleared to help remove on average 6 inches of fat circumferentially in the waist area, but also increases energy levels. This revolutionary device allows the body to repair, restore and rejuvenate itself.
Q Where’s the best place to start with biohacking if you’ve never tried it before?
A Beginners can start with simple lifestyle changes such as improving sleep hygiene, adopting intermittent fasting, using wearable fitness trackers, and trying mindfulness or breathwork techniques before exploring advanced therapies.

Leading the WAY
Interview with Professor Mark Whiteley from The Whiteley
Clinic, the UK’s leading expert in the treatment of varicose veins and pelvic congestion syndrome
Q Can you tell us a little more about yourself and your clinics?
A I am Professor Mark Whiteley, consultant venous surgeon and executive chairman of The Whiteley Clinic, the UK’s leading vein clinic and an internationally recognised centre of excellence for varicose vein treatments and pelvic congestion syndrome. The Whiteley Clinic is known throughout the vein world for our multi award-winning research and innovative treatment methods, leading to the lowest possible recurrence rates and high long term patient satisfaction. We have seven clinics across the UK in London, Guildford, Henley, Poole, Bristol and recently opened in Manchester and Liverpool.
Q What are varicose veins?
A Varicose veins are abnormally large bulging veins that can be seen pressing out the skin of the legs or vulva/scrotum when standing or sitting. They bulge because of the pressure of the blood inside them. This occurs because the underlying veins have failed valves, reversing the blood flow from the heart and back into the veins. Visible varicose veins in the legs can cause tired, aching, heavy legs and swollen ankles, but can also lead to red or brown stains around the ankles, bleeding, leg ulcers (open sores), or blood clots (DVT).
Q What are hidden varicose veins?
A “Hidden varicose veins” is the name given to the same underlying problem, but without
bulging veins, and therefore they cannot be seen. As such, these patients have the same problems and risks as those who have visible varicose veins, but do not know that they have them because they are not visible on the surface. They might be hidden because they are too deep in the leg, or because they are hidden deep inside the pelvis.
Hidden varicose veins in the legs still cause tired, aching, heavy legs as well as the skin damage, clots and ulcers, but within the pelvis can cause an aching feeling, irritable bowel syndrome, irritable bladder, pain during intercourse, lower back pain, hip pain and haemorrhoids of the vulva or vagina in females or the scrotum in males.
Q What can this lead to?
A One in three (30%) of women attending gynaecology outpatients with chronic pelvic pain have pelvic hidden varicose veins, known as pelvic congestion syndrome (PCS) or pelvic venous disorders (PeVD). Unfortunately, these conditions are not recognised by most gynaecologists and these patients are frequently told that they have endometriosis or that there is “nothing wrong with them”.
It is estimated that approximately one million women in the UK are su ering from pelvic pain due to PCS and are not being given the diagnosis by their gynaecologists due to lack of understanding in how to diagnose and treat the condition.
To address this, we have just opened a new women’s health clinic in London’s Bond Street in February. Led by Dr Sophie Strong, a consultant gynaecologist specialising in pelvic pain, it will be the first women’s pelvic pain clinic in the UK to specialise in both PCS and other gynaecological causes of pelvic pain.
Q Can visible or hidden varicose veins be easily treated?
A Although many doctors still think veins are easy, research has shown that there are many di erent patterns of veins disease – many relatively easy to treat for the specialist, but often there are complexities that cause early recurrence if missed.
Venous duplex ultrasound scans at The Whiteley Clinic are performed by a team of dedicated Vascular Scientists/Sonographers, allowing the Whiteley Clinic trained consultants to devise a complete and personalised treatment plan for each patient.
All treatments are walk-in, walk-out and performed under local anaesthetic, reducing the risks of general anaesthetic, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

It’s not just about a haircut—it’s about finding the right style for you. The team takes time to understand your face shape, hair texture, and lifestyle to create a look that suits you. Plus, they o er tips on maintaining your style between visits.
Men’s Grooming with Helen from Anthony Laban Barbershop
Men’s grooming has evolved, with more focus on precision, self-care, and maintaining healthy hair. We sat down with Helen, one of the expert barbers, to answer the most common grooming questions.
Q How do I pick a haircut that suits my face shape?
HELEN: The right cut enhances your natural features. For round faces, adding height and structure—like a textured qui or some fullness on the top—can help elongate your face. Square faces benefit from softer styles, such as a side part or layered cut, to balance strong jawlines. Oval faces have the most flexibility and can pull o almost any style. At Anthony Laban Barbershop, we assess your face shape, hair type, and lifestyle to recommend a cut that works best for you—not just a trendy look, but one that makes you feel confident and stylish.
Q How often should I get a haircut?
HELEN: It depends on the style. If you have a short, precise cut—like a fade or buzz cut—you should visit the barbershop every 3-4 weeks to keep it looking sharp. Longer styles can go 6-8 weeks between cuts. Regular trims maintain hair health and prevent split ends, even if you’re growing your hair out. Keeping your style neat ensures it grows evenly and looks its best at all times.
Q How do I keep my hair looking fresh between cuts?
HELEN: Proper hair care is essential. Use a good shampoo and conditioner suited to your hair type—hydrating formulas for thick or coarse hair, lightweight ones for fine hair. Don’t overwash—2-3 times a week is usually enough to maintain natural oils and prevent dryness. For styling, use lightweight products like pomades or matte pastes to avoid buildup.
If you use strong-hold products, wash them out daily to keep your hair and scalp healthy.
Q What can I do about hair loss?
HELEN: Hair loss is common and can be caused by genetics, stress, or lifestyle factors. The first step is scalp care— using gentle, sulfate-free shampoos and avoiding excessive heat or tight hairstyles that cause tension.
There are also products designed to strengthen hair and slow shedding, such as thickening shampoos, scalp serums, and supplements. If you're noticing significant hair loss, it’s worth discussing your options with a professional.
At Anthony Laban Barbershop, we’re not just here to cut your hair—we’re here to help you care for it. Book your appointment today and discover the best in men’s grooming. labanlondonbarbers.com

SBethan Laura Wood is one of the most exciting new designers of the past decade. An exhibition at the Design Museum showcases her work
ince founding her multidisciplinary studio in 2009, Bethan Laura Wood has redefined contemporary design with her bold explorations of materials, vibrant colour palettes, and rich artisan collaborations. And now her work goes on show for the first time in a solo presentation at the Design Museum, where a new display features some of her most eye-catching creations alongside brand new work.
Driven by a critical approach to sustainability, Bethan challenges the norms of mass consumption while fostering practical innovation. Through her designs, she creates objects that inspire dialogue and connect people with the cultural stories embedded in everyday materials. Her distinctive work is celebrated for its kaleidoscope of colours, intricate patterns, layered references, and innovative use of materials.
With eclectic creations spanning furniture, lighting, jewellery, and installations, Bethan Laura Wood’s work is characterised by a bold use of colour, intricate patterns, and innovative material combinations. Objects on display range from stained teacups to patterned modular furniture.
Since obtaining an MA in Design Products at the Royal College of Art and establishing her eponymous design studio in 2009, Wood has

PORTRAIT OF BETHAN LAURA WOOD
BY DAVID SIERRA
“Wood seeks to design things that people want to keep, and which give a sense of ceremony”
become one of the most exciting new designers of the past decade, and has quickly gained a cult following alongside a celebrated global design reputation. She’s been commissioned by and produced named collaborations with a variety of international partners in recent years, including Perrier–Jouët, Hermes and Dior, and she has works in the permanent collections of the Wellcome Collection and the V&A in London, the Dresden State Art Collections in Germany, the Art Institute of Chicago and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in the USA, and the National Gallery of Victoria in Australia. Wood’s display at the Design Museum is split into three sections — Desire, Adornment and Hyperreality. “This exhibition not only highlights the final pieces but also offers a behind-the-
scenes look at my creative process — from early sketches and renderings to detailed scale models,” she explains.
Desire focuses on Wood’s fascination with how we connect with everyday objects. As an avid collector herself, Wood's work delves into how and why we covet certain pieces. By exploring objects that become integral to our daily routines, Wood seeks to design things that people want to keep, and which give a sense of ceremony every time they are used. On display in this section is a porcelain tea set intentionally stained so that the more the cups are used, the more the pattern reveals itself. These sit alongside a colourful and embroidered installation of desserts inspired by paintings in Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum.
Adornment explores Wood’s use of ornamentation, decoration and pattern. Her practise considers how objects can be both functional and highly ornate, with decoration adding layered meaning. Here is Wood’s reinterpretation of Tolix's ‘Model A’ chair, a ubiquitous seat in public spaces. Her eye-catching redesign saw her subvert the original chair’s simplicity by combining two apparent opposites — the feminine form and industrial power. It was in part inspired by the robot Maschinenmensch Maria from the film 'Metropolis' (1927) and Queen Elizabeth I.
In the final section, Hyperreality, Wood plays with our understanding of what is natural versus what is man-made, and creates illusions by layering materials and pattern to force us to question what we are looking at. HyperNature, a psychedelic wall sconce, features branches made from aluminium and leaves and petals made from PVC, blurring the boundaries between the natural and man-made while also elevating PVC from an everyday material into an artisan object.

Beata Heuman has launched a new collection of paints with Mylands, and her own home is the perfect showcase for them
By PEARL BOYD
Originally from Sweden, Beata Heuman is a London-based interior designer who has been making waves in the design world since founding her own practice in 2013. Her work is thoughtful, creative and full of nostalgia, making her popular with an imaginative audience and establishing “a well-deserved reputation for homes filled with whimsical, personal details” (British Vogue). Beata is a fixture on all major lists of the world’s most talented interior designers with Architectural Digest calling her the “It girl of the AD 100” and Forbes singling her out as “One of the most sought-after interior designers in Britain”.
Beata’s approach to colour is instinctive; she is known for just getting it right, so news that she has launched a paint colour collaboration is sparking a lot of interest. She has teamed up with Mylands, the luxury British paint and wood polishes manufacturer to create The Dependables, a collection of 24 considered, vivid and reliable paint colours. Encapsulating a palette of shades refined over decades of designing interiors, The Dependables are trusted colours you can rely on: versatile light neutrals to cover most walls, mid-tones for shadowy depth in places, darker shades to add edge and contrast, a generous sprinkling of uplifting but calming greens and blues, buttery, irresistible yellows and a sizzling pop of red to add the cherry on the cake.
Beata has long admired Mylands, which has been perfecting the art of fine paints for over 140 years and five generations at its factory in the heart of London, an
BEATA HEUMAN
expertise for which it was awarded a Royal Warrant in 1985. Mylands is one of the last remaining manufacturers to still use natural earth pigments in its paints which makes them durable, colour rich and kind to the planet.
Each of the 24 trusted shades has been carefully honed and tested to ensure they work in most settings, in different combinations and cohesively as a whole. Though curated and succinct, the collection is versatile and full of possibility. When picking the best paint colours to use at home there is an almost limitless choice available. This collection is designed to be an edited range that is easy to return to again and again.
Heuman says: “It has been my dream to do my own paint collection. I am very specific about colour, and I think about it a lot, so it has been thoroughly enjoyable expressing that and now being able to share it with a bigger audience. The team at Mylands are so enthusiastic about paint and colour, and working with Anna Steel, head of colour development, has been a crucial part of the process. When we found ourselves seven tries down in the sampling process with Cigar, even I was close to giving up! Anna kept pushing and I think that commitment to getting it right really shines through looking at the collection we’ve created.”
Mylands’ CEO Dominic Myland said: From capturing a perfect white in No. 1 Beata White which I’m sure will be universally loved, to cheering pops of brighter hues, these colours are sophisticated and easy to use. I really appreciate her dedication to developing exactly the right shade; it mirrors our own passion for creating beautiful colours that will stand the test of time.” mylands.com

eirdre Dyson celebrates 25 years in the industry with the launch of her ‘Light Play’ collection. This much-anticipated 2025 collection explores colour in its purest form. The palette centres around lighter shades from the purple spectrum – lilacs, lavenders, heathers and mauves –which sit harmoniously in overlaid pastel colourways or combine with juxtaposing hues to dramatic effect. Whether in geometric or organic shapes, artist Deirdre showcases her expert eye for colour, with stunning results. The luxurious wool and silk threaded carpets are works of art in themselves, designed to complement and enhance any luxurious interior scheme.
A PAIR OF ‘PANELS’ CARPETS COME IN TWO COLOURWAYS –GREY AND GREEN – EACH WITH A DRAMATICALLY DIFFERENT IMPACT. COOL GREY IS PAIRED WITH CONTRASTING SCARLET INGOTS, WHILE GRADUATED GREENS ARE THE PERFECT FOIL FOR THE ILLUMINATING GOLD BARS
‘Last year’s ‘Graduation’ collection focused on tonal grades, so this time I wanted to celebrate colour in all its clarity,’ says Deirdre Dyson. ‘I decided to play with contrasts, overlapping shapes and selecting softer, gentle tones and experimenting with silk to create light effects. Also separately choosing intense colours to create individual pieces of floor art to add drama to any situation.’
Many of the 13 unique designs integrate fine silk elements, adding a tactile twist to the exquisite wool creations. Each design has its own name, including 'Square Cuts', which is reminiscent of layers of photographic slides, overlaid with squares and rectangles in pastel colours, converging to create a translucent, three-dimensional effect.
‘Suspense’ and ‘Totem’ feature similar silk transparent rectangles. In ‘Suspense’, varying purple shades recede in intensity, lending the illusion of floating shapes. In ‘Totem, a totemic tower has a glass-like quality. In ‘Agro,’ asymmetric forms in russet shades are jaggedly outlined in

“The family’s art collection served as a foundation for creating a cohesive and deeply personal space”
JAPANESE MODERN
Spotlight on an art collector’s home in Primrose Hill
Acaptivating redesign has transformed this family home in Primrose Hill into a harmonious blend of artistic celebration and intimate living. Designed for a family of art lovers and collectors, the home reflects their deep connection to Japanese art and culture, nurtured during their five years living in Tokyo, Japan. The interior redesign spans two interconnected floors, guided by a vision to create a home that is both functional and curated. Drawing inspiration from Japanese aesthetics, the design integrates traditional elements with the inclusion of bespoke joinery and textural upholstery to the living room adding depth and interest, and modern influences incorporating whitewashed timber and marble in the deVOL x Sebastian Cox designed kitchen, fostering a sense of harmony and flow throughout the home.
Clean lines and open spaces create a minimalist canvas, highlighting original beams and architectural details, while playful details such as textured surfaces and coloured tiles add moments of contemporary vibrancy. The redesign is a testament to their passion for art, showcasing an exquisite collection curated over years of travel. Pieces from notable and emerging Japanese artists Hiroka Yamashita, Ulala Imai, Takuro Kuwata, Koichi Enomoto, Fumi Imamura, Taichi Nakamura, and NanaFuno are interwoven with works by British and US-based talents such as Alexis Soul-Gray, David Murphy, and Diane Chappalley.
“Contemporary Okinawan ceramics, ikebana vases, and traditional Mingei crafts enrich the space”
Contemporary Okinawan ceramics, ikebana vases, and traditional Mingei crafts further enrich the space, while striking photography by Daido Moriyama, Nobuyoshi Araki, and MasaoYamamoto punctuates the home’s serene flow. A stand-out feature is the newly acquired artwork by Hiroka Yamashita, adding a bold, modern touch to the kitchen. The home also features a range of design-led accents, from a midcentury Ludvik Volak chair, antique Scandinavian Nils Kähler lamp and feminine, fabric pendant light by Beata Heuman.Together these elements create a playful dialogue between past and present, traditional and contemporary.
Ryan Rankin, Creative Director at Ryan Rankin Studio, says: “This home tells a story of connection, where the family’s art collection served as a foundation for creating a cohesive and deeply personal space. Every design decision was made with the family’s
art collection in mind, ensuring the home remains a warm and welcoming space that feels lived-in while celebrating creativity.”
Seamlessly uniting Japanese influences with modern design, the home reflects a thoughtful balance of aesthetics and functionality. Every detail, from curated artworks to bespoke craftsmanship, tells a story of cultural appreciation and personal expression, resulting in a timeless and soulful space that inspires and delights in equal measure.

Lounge LOVERS
A look at Carl Hansen & Søn’s Embrace Outdoor Lounge Series by EOOS
Designed by EOOS, Carl Hansen & Søn’s Embrace Outdoor Lounge Series is characterised by balancing soft upholstery and stringent wood perfectly. The modular sofa encourages outdoor relaxation with its comfortable upholstery and laid-back look, and, at the same time, it has a tight and contemporary idiom with its woven arm- and backrests and teak frame. The lounge table has a clear kinship to the existing tables of the Embrace Series with its distinct and floating expression.
EOOS has been part of Carl Hansen & Søn’s collection for nearly 10 years, growing the Embrace Series into an extensive collection of both dining and lounge furniture for indoors and outdoors. The Embrace Series bridges EOOS’ contemporary design idiom with Carl Hansen & Søn’s craftsmanship expertise and presents a modern take on wooden furniture.
EOOS is a design studio based in Vienna consisting of Martin Bergmann, Gernot Bohmann and Harald Gründl. The trio views design as a poetic discipline, believing that end results should be able to accommodate changing needs and desires, and approach complex furniture, product, and shop design challenges by examining past roots in a contemporary context. EOOS has published books on design, holds over 15 technical patents, and has won over 130 international awards, including a red dot award, a Compasso d’Oro, the German Design Award, an iF Award and a Wallpaper* Design Award. A SUPER
MODEL
BoConcept has announced Helena Christensen as their Global Artistic Director
BoConcept has ushered in a new creative era as it appoints the world-renowned Danish supermodel, photographer and style icon Helena Christensen as Global Artistic Director for the brand.
In her new role, Helena will help to shape an exciting new chapter for the global interiors company, working closely with new design talent, featuring in and producing brand campaigns, and designing and styling pieces that speak to her effortless sense of style and easy elegance.
Helena lends her unique experience and perspective to BoConcept’s ‘Art of Living Danishly’ campaign, bringing to life what it means to live well through inspiring content series, engaging lifestyle pieces across BoConcept’s channels and conversations with fellow Danish creatives addressing what it is to “Live Danish”.
The appointment takes BoConcept’s longstanding practice of collaborating with renowned designers to a new level. Helena says: “This is a dream come true for me. I’ve always loved interiors and this speaks to so many of my passions for design, creativity, and living intentionally.”
FROM FASHION TO FURNITURE
Helena says her whole career has been about “what the eye sees and how it makes you feel”. As one of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ group of supermodels that dominated catwalks, billboards and magazines in the ’90s, she was part of the fashion and culture explosion of the decade – front and centre of an era that shaped culture as we know it.
Now, she says, “the way I decorate my home is as important as how I dress myself”, and her love of home and deep appreciation for living well keeps her firmly in step with today’s zeitgeist, favouring wellness and self-care, and quality over quantity.
As part of her role, Helena will be designing furniture and developing fabrics for the brand. Interiors have always been a passion, and alongside her modelling and photography, she has worked in the interiors space for two decades. Twenty years ago she launched the concept store Butik in New York City with Leif Sigersen. She is also co-founder, with long-term collaborator Camilla Staerk, of their interior design and lifestyle studio Staerk & Christensen, which creates work across fashion, furniture, photography and film.
Recent design projects include collaborations with New York-based studio Bower on a range of home accessories and creating a special edition of the ‘Runner Chair’ with Danish designer Kasper Salto. The duo has also been working on an ongoing prefab project of three structural houses with Revolution Precrafted, alongside the architect Gulla Jonsdottir.
“This speaks to my passion for design and creativity ”
About her approach, Helena says: “Design is more than the details of aesthetics, it’s about how it makes you feel when you walk through the door,” she says. “When your environment is comforting, beautiful and feels like a true reflection of you, life is better. You’re freer, more productive, more creative and more relaxed and joyful. That matters a lot to me!"
DANISH DESIGN’S NEW WAVE
The partnership is also rooted in a shared Danish heritage and cultural experience. Copenhagen-born Helena, who lives in Manhattan and has a beach house on the Danish coast, joins BoConcept at a time when Danish design and the country’s creative and cultural output is globally influential – continuously shifting the dial across fashion, design, food and beyond.
“Being Global Artistic Director at BoConcept is more than just a role to me; it’s a creative journey of unpacking what it means to live well and sharing the beauty and brilliance of Danish design.”
Danish design played a crucial role in the mid-century modern movement, characterised by its clean lines and functional forms. This is still central to the new direction, but the new wave feels more playful and personal. It’s this
“I want to share the beauty and brilliance of Danish design”
marriage of minimalism’s sleek lines and Helena’s maverick ability to be nothing other than herself that makes the partnership so invigorating.
THE POWER OF PHOTOGRAPHY
Helena’s first creative endeavour comes with the launch of ‘Flora’, an exclusive set of art prints from her personal photography archive, available to buy in March 2025. The capsule of botanical prints highlights Helena’s love of nature and capturing the beauty of every day. “There’s something so fascinating about looking at a flower, deeply and intensely,” Helena says. “The magic and complexity of nature is almost impossible to believe and understand, but I’m able to capture it, somehow, with my camera.”
A celebrated photographer, Helena’s work has been published extensively in art and design magazines and is frequently showcased in galleries from Europe to the US. Helena was also a founding partner and creative director of the hugely influential Nylon magazine.
She says photography has become “like breathing” to her. “I love the simple
fact that you can capture a moment in time. I see everything in frames. I am constantly searching for moments and always curious about everything that happens in my way.”
WORLD TRAVELLER AND UN AMBASSADOR
In a role in which she combines her passion for photography with humanitarian work, in 2019 Helena was appointed a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, travelling the globe to document the struggles of refugees and displaced people. “This is a role I take very seriously,” she says. “The fact that I get to travel the world and meet people who are refugees or displaced persons and photograph them, talk to them and convey their stories to the rest of the world is the most fulfilling and humbling job I will ever have.”
BoConcept is thrilled to be working with Helena and excited to see the vibrant, unique perspective this global icon will bring to the story of Danish design at BoConcept. Chief Marketing Officer Paula McGuinness says: “We are truly excited to harness
our BoConcept design expertise with Helena’s intrinsic sense of global style and her Danish life philosophy. We look forward to shaping a new agenda together to inspire consumers around the world.”
BoConcept was founded in 1952 in Denmark and today is the world’s most global furniture retailer, with over 300 stores spanning 64 countries. The brand works with award-winning designers to create collections of furniture, accessories and lighting for private homes and business spaces. Under the heading ‘Live Ekstraordinær’, BoConcept is committed to bringing its flexible Interior Design Service and industryleading customisation to spaces both private and public – without compromising on design vision or aesthetics.
Experience the collection at BoConcept stores located at Battersea Reach, Fenwick Brent Cross, Fenwick Kingston, Finchley Road, Guildford, Harrods, Notting Hill, Tottenham Court Road, Westfield London, Fenwick Bracknell and St Albans. boconcept.com
Helena resides in New York City, where she continues to blend her passions for fashion, art, and philanthropy.

Carpe Diem Beds is expanding The Iconic Collection and releasing new products for the bedroom sanctuary
IIn celebration of this year’s 30th anniversary, Carpe Diem Beds has expanded The Iconic Collection, an innovative series of floating luxury beds first released last May. The brand is adding their best-selling bed model, Sandö, to the collection and releasing a range of new products to help customers turn their bedrooms into sanctuaries. The Iconic Collection debuted with four innovative designs: Kungsö, Hällsö Walnut, Hällsö Upholstery, and Vindö. Known for their innovative style, these beds feature a distinctive centred leg design, creating an ethereal floating effect. With the addition of Sandö Iconic, the collection continues to set new standards for luxury and innovation in the world of sleep.
REIMAGINING A CLASSIC
As Carpe Diem Beds’ most popular continental bed model, Sandö has been thoughtfully reimagined to align with the rest of The Iconic Collection. Its updated design incorporates the centred leg, giving it the ethereal floating appearance while maintaining the ergonomic excellence that has made it a customer favourite.
Sandö Iconic stands out due to its unique combination of three patented spring systems. Like all beds in the collection, Sandö Iconic includes both the Contour Pocket System and Visco Elastic Bottom Layer. The third layer, the X-pocket, is positioned between the top and bottom spring systems, providing exceptional suspension depth that creates an unparalleled sensation of weightlessnes and enhances the sleep experience, offering an ideal balance of support and relaxation.
New standards for luxury and innovation in the world of sleep
ADDING TO THE BEDROOM SANCTUARY
Carpe Diem Beds offers more than just luxury beds; they provide a variety of bedroom furniture and accessories that inspire customers to create their own bedroom sanctuary. The concept of a 360° view is central to the company’s philosophy, as they believe the bedroom should be the heart of the home – a space where one can truly unwind. Among the new releases are the Otterö Headboard, Holme Walnut Nightstand, Holme Walnut Top and Cylinder Bed Leg in Walnut, all crafted from walnut, highlighting a commitment to materials that embody beauty, tranquillity, and lasting quality. This aligns with one of the company’s primary sources of design inspiration: nature.
The new releases also include Holme Upholstery, Sälö, and Holme Plexi Top. Holme Upholstery is a soft, fabric-padded version of the popular Holme Nightstand. Sälö is an upholstered back panel designed to complement the walnut headboard models Pinnö and Otterö. The Holme Plexi Top is specifically designed for the Holme nightstands. This transparent top adds a modern touch while providing a protective surface.
Each new offering is thoughtfully created to enhance the sleeping experience, reflecting meticulous attention to detail and high-quality materials that cater to diverse tastes and preferences.

Feel REJUVENATED
Do you wake up fully rested? Take the Jensen Beds sleep test and find out
The first step to better sleep health is understanding what to change. Small tweaks to your daily routine can have a great impact on the quality of your sleep – and your quality of life. Jensen Beds’ sleep experts have developed a test which takes just a few minutes to complete and will help you on your way to waking up fully rested. Simply scan the QR code, left, and put your sleep to the test and take the first step to better sleep health.
WHY JENSEN?
For over 75 years, Jensen Beds’ purpose has been to help people improve their sleep. The team developing their beds has expertise in physiology and sleep
science. Innovations such as Jensen Exact Comfort Adjustment, their unique zone system and the Aloy® spring system all contribute to better sleep comfort, limiting the need to wake and change your sleeping position. Because the less disruption you experience during sleep, the more rested you will be in the morning.
FOUR ROUTINES THAT IMPROVE YOUR SLEEP
1. Write a gratitude journal
Writing is a great way to process your emotions. Write down three things every night before you go to bed and see if it helps you find a sense of calm and security that helps you sleep better. When you let go of negative thoughts, it becomes easier to relax. Lower stress levels contribute to the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone, which helps you fall asleep faster and wake up refreshed.
2. Leave your mobile out of the bedroom
Make it a habit to keep your mobile phone in another room while you sleep. This reduces distractions and minimizes the temptation to check your phone if you wake during the night, which can interfere with your ability to fall back asleep quickly. This keeps your sleep environment healthier, free from the blue light emitted by screens, which is known to disrupt circadian rhythms and suppress melatonin production.
3. Sleep in a bed with optimal support for your body
Invest in a bed that is comfortable and gives your whole body good ergonomic support. To give you optimal support, your bed needs to meet the specific requirements of your body. When you are allowed to sleep without pressure, your brain doesn’t have to signal to your body to change position throughout the night. This helps you stay in restorative sleep for longer periods of time.
4. Use a wake-up light as a morning alarm
Traditional alarm clocks wake you very abruptly, which can be a stressful experience. A wake-up light wakes you gradually over 20-30 minutes as the light simulates a natural sunrise. This gentle approach to waking up helps you start the day with more energy and a positive mindset.

IDEALS KITCHEN
What does the kitchen of 2025 look like? Al Bruce of Olive & Barr highlights some of the major current trends
SOCIAL SEATING
The kitchen continues to be one of the busiest rooms in the home with connection and hosting being at the top of homeowners’ wish lists. Creating comfortable, easy spaces that encourage people to relax and socialise is becoming increasingly sought after. Although the island remains the central hub of the kitchen, we see additional informal dining and cosy seating being introduced, be it a casual dining table with reclaimed chairs, stylish banquette seating or small intimate nooks to perch on. This extra seating isn’t structured or formal; it’s creative, fun, uncomplicated and easy to introduce in both new and existing kitchen designs.
ATMOSPHERIC COLOUR PALETTE
In 2025, homeowners are embracing a more atmospheric colour palette, introducing richer hues, including reds, blacks, and deep earth tones such as brown and burgundy. The rich decadence of these colours adds a sophisticated touch while creating a cosy and inviting atmosphere.
Dark shades allow other materials and textures to shine, particularly cabinetry hardware and natural materials such as stone and wood. If committing to an entirely dark palette feels overwhelming, consider incorporating these rich tones through elements such as tiling or worktops. Brass worktops have become increasingly popular in the last year, and we expect this to continue, especially on feature and freestanding islands. Practical and versatile, brass complements a range of contemporary and traditional kitchen styles and adds richness to a kitchen design, creating a jewel-box and atmospheric look.
THE DARK WOOD KITCHEN
The wood kitchen became increasingly popular over the last year, with homeowners embracing an all-wood kitchen design, with a serene and minimalist look. While wood remains a key trend for 2025, we see tastes shift to a more authentic
“A dedicated coffee area has become top of the wish list in kitchen design”
and richer aesthetic, as homeowners embrace darkly stained wood, in rich chocolatey tones. Not reserved for those living in period homes, dark wood complements a host of kitchen designs and colours and can be integrated through cabinetry, worktops, freestanding islands or dining tables with ease, adding texture and old-meets-new character in abundance.
A MOMENT FOR COFFEE
“The ‘at-home’ coffee shop experience has proven to be more than a fleeting trend, as we see homeowners continue to invest in state-of-theart coffee machines. From dedicated pantries to specially designed nooks - the hot drinks station is here to stay. With this comes the demand for bespoke shelving and cabinetry to display barista tools, coffee mugs and accessories. Having a dedicated area to make and enjoy your favourite hot drink has become top of the wish list in kitchen design for caffeine enthusiasts and those who love to host and impress guests, providing loved ones with a special café-style experience.

LIVING
How Kitchen Architecture’s individual approach – combined with a minimal aesthetic – created an elegant and functional kitchen for a family that loves cooking, socialising and entertaining
An impressive island creates a sleek stage for living in this beautiful, minimal family kitchen. The client’s love for cooking and entertaining as a family was a key consideration in the design process and this kitchen, crafted to be elegant and highly practical, has ample storage to meet their needs.
Kitchen Architecture worked closely with Lewandowski Architects to bring the concept for the new living space to life and ensure a seamless flow between the kitchen and the connecting indoor and outdoor spaces. The impressive island in anthracite and stainless steel adds to the minimal aesthetic kitchen, creating a stage for life. The bar formed from the stainless-steel work surface provides an informal social and dining spot. From the island, the cook can socialise with ease while enjoying stunning views through the floor-to-ceiling glazing.
THE VISION: SLEEK, MINIMAL, AND PRACTICAL
The clients, a couple with two adult children, envisioned a kitchen seamlessly blending into their living space. They wanted a design more akin to bespoke furniture than a traditional kitchen, allowing it to integrate effortlessly into their home. The result is a sleek and minimal space, achieved through Kitchen Architecture’s high-end materials and calm colour tones, ensuring both style and practicality.
KEY DESIGN ELEMENTS
Ths beautiful Kitchen Architecture kitchen features bulthaup furniture in anthracite, selected for its soft
and smooth appearance. This finish interacts beautifully with the natural light that floods the space, thanks to the almost fully glazed rear elevation. Stainless steel worktops add a timeless touch, creating a seamless and expansive work surface that is practical and visually striking.
LAYOUT AND FUNCTIONALITY
A meticulously planned layout improves the space’s functionality and aesthetic appeal. A long kitchen island serves as the central hub. The tall appliance block, featuring Gaggenau ovens and a Bora hob with downdraft extraction, is recessed to maintain a sleek profile.
ARCHITECTURAL HARMONY
Working closely with Lewandowski Architects, the kitchen design complements the home’s modern architectural style with the almost entirely glazed rear elevation maximising the connection to the grounds and enhancing the sense of openness and connectivity.
CRAFTSMANSHIP AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL
Using high-quality materials and intelligent storage solutions ensures the kitchen is beautiful and highly functional. Hidden storage within the extended-height tall units and the unobtrusive downdraft hob adds to the minimalist aesthetic.

The Dualit Classic toaster: 80 years of toast
Are all toasters created equal? Or is it only in my kitchen that what we have come to accept as toast is in fact usually either warm bread or burnt bread? The sweet spot in between is rarely achieved, but the fire alarm is often triggered. Where are we going wrong?
It’s a simple experiment. We simply plug in a Dualit classic toaster, the kind that has been handmade in the UK since the 1950s, with its iconic design and manual dial. Fans of TV’s Inside the Factory might have watched the recent episode which included a visit to Dualit’s West Sussex factory to discover exactly how this iconic piece is made –and it’s a complex process. Each component is assembled carefully by hand and to order – and this makes each toaster fully repairable. So it’s literally a toaster for life. And the toast? I can confirm that the warm bread/burnt bread issue is easily addressed with a dial that lets you choose exactly how long to toast for, and a lever that allows you to check progress without stopping the clock. Controls are simple and easy to understand (though the bagel setting, with its one-side-only policy, confuses us: which side?). Plus, its shiny chrome finish and rounded shape looks stylish on our worktop. We have been using it for over a week now and haven’t heard the fire alarm once. What a result.

CLASS SHEER
The journey usually begins with a visit to their website, which is jam packed with images, info and useful articles. From there a showroom visit can be arranged – this can be either for a quick initial look around or a full design consultation. In any event you can rest assured that there are absolutely no pushy salespeople jumping around.
Thanks to this ‘super-lean’ business model, Tomas Kitchen Living have managed to keep the price tag reasonably grounded. Founding Director Tomas explains that “by having no dealerships, salespeople and permanently open showrooms burning up energy six or seven days a week, the top-quality products we make can still be supplied with an upper middle price tag”. It’s not ‘cheap’ but thanks to this directness, the value is certainly there in what they do.
The quality of their work is undeniable, but beyond this, one is struck by how incredibly stylish and tasteful Why

A s a complete kitchen company, everything is covered under one roof. If you’re doing a ‘swap-out’ they will visit, measure up and work with you to create the perfect layout. From there, quotes are produced, and the team takes care of everything – stripping out the kitchen, organising trades, and installing the kitchen (which as numerous reviews will confirm will be amazing). If your new kitchen is for a newly built space, architectural drawings are converted, and design work takes place in one of the three design studios.

Beyond aesthetics, Cult is committed to sustainability. This latest campaign showcases a range of eco-conscious materials, from sustainable velvets and boucle made from recycled ocean plastics to responsibly sourced wood and bamboo. Beautiful interiors should not come at the cost of the planet, and Cult is ensuring that bold style and sustainability go hand in hand.
But Designed for the Bold isn’t just about furniture—it’s a lifestyle. Cult encourages customers to embrace individuality, to break the rules, and to curate spaces that reflect their true selves. Whether you lean towards

The enduring popularity of Crittall Windows' steel-framed windows and doors
When it comes to creating striking architectural statements in your home, few design elements can have the same impact as steel-framed windows and doors. Modern systems are incredibly versatile, bringing a touch of elegance to both contemporary and traditional property styles.
Crittall Windows' managing director Russell Ager explains: “There’s a common misconception that steel windows and doors are limited to industrial-style spaces or period properties when, in reality, their adaptability makes them a perfect addition to any sleek modern development or heritage period renovation project.”
As an incredibly versatile material, high quality steel windows and doors can be
carefully constructed into various shapes and sizes without compromising the structural integrity of the profile.
What’s more, the slender frames –synonymous with steel windows and doors – maximise the amount of natural light flooding homes, creating bright and airy spaces that feel much larger. Crafting the windows and doors into a prestigious arch design amplifies this even further as the stylish shape draws the eye upward, creating a sense of grandeur, ideal for London’s distinctive townhouses and converted properties.
“Whether you’re looking to replicate an original arched window or want to create a new contemporary piece, steel can be precisely engineered to match the vision for your home,” adds Russell.
The endless possibilities for steel customisation also extend beyond shape and size. In fact, homeowners can select from a range of colours, hardware options
and glazing specifications to create truly unique external windows and doors for their home.
MODERN STEEL WINDOWS AND DOORS
While steel windows and doors may have a strong heritage spanning over 175 years, systems manufactured today have been adapted to guarantee they achieve exceptional performance, as Russell explains. “Our steel windows and doors offer the perfect balance of traditional design and modern innovation. They deliver unparalleled aesthetics that people love and meet the latest building requirements for security, thermal efficiency and sound insulation.”
The result? A product that perfectly suits any modern or traditional building design. The minimal sightlines create designs that cannot be matched by alternative materials, while the strength of steel ensures these windows and doors will continue to perform and impress for many years.
Steel arched windows and doors offer the winning combination of elegance, performance and versatility. More than just windows or doors, they become impressive architectural features that create stunning spaces which add lasting value to any home.

Space MAKERS
Creating a stylish
contemporary space with Thames Design & Build
This Thames Ditton project was a challenging one, with a tight deadline. The brief for our designers was to provide a ground floor rear extension, a loft conversion, and a complete internal modernisation, with the key objectives being to create a contemporary space and a feeling of “outdoor living” by better integrating the house with its garden.
Our team of designers and builders rose to the occasion, creating a masterpiece that exceeded everyone’s expectations. From the sleek and modern extension which contrasted with, but perfectly complemented, the traditional style of the house, to the carefully crafted interior, every detail was meticulously thought through.
Key elements included an attractive and spacious kitchen, with selected doors and drawers finished in natural wood, and an adjacent family snug formed by the installation of a matching slatted wood partition wall. Full height and width sliding glass doors in anthracite grey perfectly framed the garden aspect, adding to the feeling of spaciousness and comfort. The relocation of the staircase, together with the strategic positioning of windows and skylights on all three floors, opened and illuminated the whole living space. Underfloor heating throughout the ground floor ensures maximum use of space and
minimum disruption to the eye.
The stylish dormer loft extension, clad externally in zinc, provided a new master bedroom suite. Bespoke mirrored wardrobes combined perfectly with the large low-level windows to reflect the view of the garden, creating an open, airy and luxurious space.
This project was a reminder that sometimes the best ideas come from unexpected places. As a creative team, we were always willing to think outside the box and push the boundaries of traditional design. Our clients were delighted, and we are confident that they share our view that this project truly. was a testament to our passion and dedication.

CREATING THE ART OF
Considering the art process with Carolin Rechberg
Carolin Rechberg is an interdisciplinary Fine Artist born in Starnberg, Germany. She places most value in the multi-sensory experience involved in the process of creating, the insights they generate and how these transfer to a way of life.
Rechberg says: “Alerting the senses through creating is an opportunity to ground in the present moment. Observing with the senses provides a place to simply be, to breathe, to feel, to find rest in the now. It is a means to communicate with the is-ness of being, with being in presence. The art process, and the artwork, is a vehicle to harness instinct, stimulate creativity and gather awareness, information, and insight, emanating through heightened sense perception, in the communion with art and nature.”
Rechberg attained an Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Fine Art from the California College of the Arts, a Master of Fine Art in Drawing and Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute, and a Master in Art and Art Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She taught Drawing and Painting as a Teaching Assistant in her 1st Master at the San Francisco Art Institute, and Etching, Lithography, Silkscreen and Woodcut during her 2nd Master at Teachers College. Simultaneously to completing her education she managed the Printmaking Studios at Teachers College.
Carolin Rechberg’s work has been exhibited and published internationally. Rechberg works as an independent artist, offering unique artworks for sale and individual commissions for commercial, private, or public space.
“Whether in art or in life, it is about the process of experiencing, being in the moment, being present. As an artist one consciously communes with the very act of creation, with making ‘a knowing’, an understanding brought forth through the work itself.
The practice of art births a way of being. It is a vehicle to foster and sensitise the relationship of one’s own effect of presence, and that of the ‘other’, in the world.
Art making facilitates a means to digest, to reflect and to transform information. One becomes the elemental part, the tool for the alchemy of creation itself and if attentive one receives in response valuable ideation and revelations mirrored at large in the systems and products of human infrastructure we live in and see created in life. Art harnesses a state of alert awareness. The art process is the art.”

There are many reasons you might want to replace windows and doors in your home from reducing drafts, improving heat insulation to home improvement and renovations. With thoughtful consideration and the help of an expert, such enhancements can increase the value of your property and ensure a long-lasting investment. For this reason, we introduce you to Ayrton Bespoke, experts in period replacement timber doors and windows. Ayrton specialise in accurately replicated sash or casement windows and individually made front and back doors that will enhance
POLICY
Ten things to consider when replacing windows and doors
the character of your period home. They have an impressive reputation with more 5* Google Reviews than any other timber window and door company in London.
Before you invest in new window or door replacements, have a look at Ayrton’s 10 important decisions for window and door replacements:
• Buy from a local window specialist (not a builder – they don’t make windows and doors)
• See the products up close before you buy
• Property is valuable – use timber – and accurately replicate the original features
• Don’t buy on price – buy cheaply and you will pay twice
• Look for comprehensive guarantees
• See examples of local work – even talk to an existing customer
• Good windows and doors take time to make – allow 12-14 weeks
• Expect answers on the detail – what is the design process, do you have a showroom, are your fitters employees? What aftercare can we expect from you?
• Make sure the company also fits the windows and doors and does NOT subcontract

When we think of security risks, we picture external threats— burglars, hackers, opportunists. Yet one of the most overlooked vulnerabilities comes from within: those with authorised access to our homes.
From housekeepers and personal assistants to contractors and chauffeurs, many households rely on trusted staff. While most are professional and discreet, history has shown that carelessness, negligence, or even malice can lead to security breaches, privacy leaks, and reputational damage.
B eyond locks and Alarms: the insider threa t
An insider threat refers to anyone with legitimate access who, knowingly or unknowingly, compromises security. This could include:
• A cleaner sharing a photo of an interior on social media, inadvertently exposing valuables and security measures.
• A contractor leaving doors unlocked or sharing alarm codes.
• A nanny or PA mentioning travel plans online, revealing when the property is unoccupied.
HOUSE SAFE

Reducing the risk: proactive protection
Practical steps to mitigate insider risks include:
• A former employee retaining unauthorised access to key security systems.
While some breaches stem from innocence or oversight, others are deliberate acts of exploitation. Highprofile individuals have suffered media leaks, insider-led cyber intrusions, and even targeted crime due to compromised access.
Security, privacy & reputation: the bigger picture
I nsider threats don’t just put physical assets at risk—they endanger privacy and reputation. In an era where a single misjudged action can have lasting consequences, digital exposure is a significant vulnerability.
Social media is often the weakest link. Even a seemingly harmless photo or video shared by staff can reveal home layouts, valuables, or routines—a blueprint for criminals. Reputation is just as fragile. Confidentiality breaches, leaked personal details, or disputes with ex-employees can escalate into unwanted exposure. For highprofile individuals, these risks extend beyond the home, affecting personal, financial, and professional interests.
• Vetting & Due Diligence – Conduct thorough background checks before hiring. NDAs and confidentiality agreements provide legal protection.
• Controlled Access – Implement tiered permissions, restrict entry to essential areas, enforce security protocols, and regularly update credentials.
• Digital & Social Media Awareness – Educate staff on online discretion, ensuring home details, valuables, and family movements remain private.
• Continuous Oversight – Use smart locks, access logs and discreet monitoring to enhance security without compromising privacy.
• Crisis Planning – Have a clear response strategy, from revoking access to managing reputational fallout.
The ultimate luxury: controlled trust
Se curity isn’t just about protecting possessions—it’s about safeguarding privacy, discretion, and reputation. In an age of increasing digital exposure, the true luxury is a trusted, secure home where risks are understood and controlled. valkyrie.co.uk

The Great
ITALIAN
rail and sail escape
All aboaed the Star Clipper for an unfortgettable tour of Italian beauty spots
By SANDY CADIZ-SMITH
The many charms of Italy are legendary. Visitors are enchanted by its dramatic scenery, ancient ruins, art and culture, as well as the draw of the delectable cuisine and wine. And now Star Clippers have designed a novel way to explore this alluring land, combining two classic (and sustainable) forms of transport: train and luxury tall ship.
Our rail-and-sail adventure starts in Puglia, a somewhat lesser-known region of Italy that’s full of surprises. We stay in the capital, Bari, the ideal base to explore the treasure trove of historical sites in the region. We visit mystical Matera, the third oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, famous for its cave-dwelling sassi districts and the picturesque town of Alberobello with its unique eye-catching, cone-shaped trulli houses. We wander the winding streets of Bari Old Town and enjoy some of that famed Puglian hospitality, loving the understated charm and authenticity.
We depart from Bari in a relaxed, Italian state of mind as we board our first-class train carriage and glide through rolling landscapes of vineyards, olive groves and ancient towns on a 310-mile train journey to meet our ship at Civitavecchia, the gateway to Rome. As we approach we spot Star Flyer sitting proudly in the sparkling ocean with its four unmistakeable masts. It’s time to cruise.
We’re welcomed on board with glasses of bubbles by Captain Dominique Rollin and Cruise Director Carlos Ferreira, who soon become fast friends. Star Flyer carries only 170 passengers, creating an intimate cruising experience. We regularly bump into o cers who are happy to chat about the ship or any of the places we’re visiting, and as we can visit the bridge at any time, we often do.
We’re soon settled in our cosy and comfortable outside stateroom which has an
“Watching the billowing sails unfurling to the rousing sounds of Vangelis brings tears to our eyes”
ensuite shower and plenty of storage space. As the ship is compact, it doesn’t take long to get our bearings among all the gleaming woodwork, polished brass and plush carpets. There’s an indoor and outdoor bar, dining room and extensive teak deck with pool and sun loungers. We discover the well-stocked library and are soon settled on the deck with a book and the first of the ever-changing cocktails of the day. The relaxation has begun. And then it’s time for what becomes our favourite time of day - the grand sail away. Watching the billowing sails unfurling for the first time to the rousing sounds of Vangelis’ Conquest of Paradise brings tears to our eyes. It’s a spectacle that inexplicably moves us every time, sail away on Star Clipper is magnificent.
Our 714-nautical mile round-trip takes in the Aeolian Islands, Sicily and the Amalfi Coast. Star Flyer’s size means we can dock in smaller, less busy ports as well as some of the more popular cruising destinations. Our first stop, after a day at sea, is Lipari, the largest of the archipelago of the seven volcanic Aeolian islands. We take a tour to its heights, stopping to admire the gasp-inducing sapphire views with snow-capped Mount Etna clearly visible in the distance. We wander the narrow streets lined with tempting shops and marvel at the peace and lack of other
travellers. Lipari is a truly unspoilt stopo and it’s hard to tear ourselves away.
The cruise also takes in the. more popular destinations of Messina, Amalfi and Sorrento. We explore the fabulous cli top town of Taormina (made even more famous as the setting of the second series of White Lotus); the quaint hilltop town of Ravello with its grand Villa Ru ulo and breathtaking views, and the picturesque town of Sorrento.
There’s always something happening on Star Flyer. We enjoy delicious themed lunchtime bu ets and chilled time at the pool, there’s Italian classes, yoga, dance lessons and gym sessions.
In the evening we’re regaled by the talented onboard pianist Jerby and enjoy entertaining shows put on by the crew with lots of audience participation. There’s a pirate night, a dazzling white night and, best of all, a multi-coloured light show on the sails - more goosebump-inducing moments. There are many of those on Star Flyer.
Like when we pass Stromboli in the dark of night. The volcano has been continuously active for thousands of years and puts on a spectacular show in sparks of red and orange, it seems like it’s just for us. What a voyage!
While the stops along the way are also unforgettable, it’s the beauty of the sailing experience on Star Flyer that will live with us forever.

The Principal of Queen’s Gate on why we need to teach girls to talk up their achievements, not talk themselves down
Go on, I dare you.”
The 11+ interview candidate pauses, and then breaks into a smile. In her hands are the gymnastics medals she has brought to show me – our standard starting point to o er our young visitors the chance to begin on familiar ground. I’ve just asked her if she’s good at gymnastics, and she’s given a shy little shrug. Her Head has warned me just how anxious she is – unnecessarily so as the girl is visibly terrified.
“You see,” I’ve just explained, “at Queen’s Gate, we take pride in our successes. We own our achievements. So, if you are good at gymnastics, you should say so”. The girl breaks into a grin and concedes that yes, actually, she is an accomplished gymnast. Nerves dissipate, and the rest of our conversation passes like a dream –smiling, laughing, articulate, confident.
Thanks to writers like Sheryl Sandberg and Mary Ann Sieghart, we are no longer oblivious to the mindsets and behaviours that women unwittingly deploy – to our own detriment. We are familiar with the oft-quoted statistic that a man will apply for a role when he has 60% of the required characteristics, while women hold o until they have 100%. We know how easily women slip into grindstone adjectives (hardworking, committed, diligent) to describe themselves. That is at least a small improvement on ‘I had great mentors’ or, worse still, ‘I was very fortunate’ when complimented on an achievement.
It’s a hard thing to fix. Owning one’s success, declaring one’s capability, is but a small step away from bragging, a behaviour we are taught from childhood is undesirable. Though by ‘we’, once again I mean the female of the species. To quote Sieghart: ‘They [men] have been socialised from childhood to blag, to boast, to speak up and self-promote, while girls have been penalised for exactly the same behaviour’. It’s true that unfettered selfaggrandisement is unappealing. Timing, context, tone, balance – all are crucial. But
“Owning one’s success is but a small step away from bragging, a behaviour we are taught is undesirable”
if we don’t start teaching young women of the future to start railing against excessive modesty, how can we ever expect them to go o into the world ready to e ect the change we wish we had already seen.
At Queen’s Gate, we are tackling this head on by encouraging our girls to take pride in their achievements and to feel safe in stating their successes. We talk about this in assembly, referencing moments like Miley Cyrus standing on stage at the Grammies, defiantly challenging the audience with the question “why are you acting like you don’t know this song?”
We apply the same thinking
when pupils reflect on their own progress, asking them to identify the steps that have brought about a positive outcome. We discuss it when speaking with the girls one-on-one, such as with a recent Oxbridge candidate who had listed that her application process would include an interview if she was lucky, rather than because of her own success in the admissions test and her strong academic profile.
AMY WALLACE Principal Queen’s Gate School
We do, of course, remind our girls to apply this principle with caution. As exam papers are returned, we ask them to be mindful of those who may not be feeling as buoyant. We insist on being able to laugh at ourselves. We take responsibility for our mistakes. Our hope is that by promoting these behaviours when our girls are young, they will carry them on into their adult life and continue the fight against the gender inequality that remains so persistent –and so pernicious. So, to the women reading this, if you are good at something, please say it. Go on, I dare you.

Kew College Prep is now welcoming children into nursery from their third birthday
Kew College Prep is delighted to announce an exciting expansion of its Nursery provision, o ering an enriching early years experience for children from the age of three. Currently, the school accepts children into its nursery in the September after their third birthday. However, from September 2025, there will be an expanded, rolling admissions process, meaning that children can join straight after their third birthday.
This expansion builds upon the school’s already exceptional reputation for delivering high-quality education and care in a secure, stimulating and enriching environment. The new structure means that children who have just turned three can join the Nursery in the new two class model. Children will take part in activities that are suited to their age and interests with more focus on Reception readiness as they approach this transition.
“High-quality education in a secure, stimulating and enriching environment”
This change comes in response to feedback from the school’s current and prospective parents, many of whom wanted their child to be able to join the school’s Nursery sooner.
The newly expanded Nursery will have two spacious, purpose-designed classrooms, complete with resources that encourage creativity, independence, and learning through play. The classrooms will have access to a dedicated outdoor space and children will also benefit from use of the Prep School’s excellent facilities. Full day Nursery is available from 8.30am to 3.30pm with optional wraparound care when children are ready, and potential for half days if required.
Kew College Prep Nursery children are taught by a qualified teacher, which, research suggests, leads to better outcomes for young children. As the children get older and progress through the Nursery, they will start to take part in specialist lessons in Music, French, PE, Dance and ICT, taught by subject experts, and enjoy weekly visits to the school library. This prepares them
perfectly for life in Reception, where they continue specialist lessons with the same teachers. The Nursery curriculum promotes both academic and emotional growth, with a focus on building a solid foundation for future learning. The dedicated team of highly trained sta guide and inspire the children through a range of activities that nurture curiosity, problem-solving skills, and social development, including regular Forest School-style outdoor learning sessions.
Head Mrs Jane Bond, said: “We believe that the early years are crucial in setting the foundations for future success, and we’re excited to expand our warm, caring, and enriching Nursery for children to learn and grow”.
For parents in Kew, Chiswick, Richmond, and the surrounding areas, the opportunity to enrol children at Kew College Prep from the age of three presents a fantastic opportunity for early education in a supportive, inspiring environment. kewcollegeprep.com

SPA TREATMENTS Mother’s day
Carly Glendinning tries two restorative spa treatments that are perfect for new mums this Mother’s Day…
The Skin Biome Facial with GROUND Wellbeing | The Peak Fitness Club & Spa at Jumeirah Carlton Tower | 90 mins, £245 “When women’s energy is in balance, we’re untouchable” says Peigin Crowley, the founder of GROUND Wellbeing. GROUND’s ‘The Skin Biome Facial’ has just launched at The Peak Fitness Club at Jumeirah Carlton Tower in Belgravia and it’s the ideal restorative and relaxing treatment for mums-to-be and new mamas. The brand’s treatments are designed to soothe and support the skin microbiome, whilst being safe for highly sensitised skin and anyone going through hormonal fluctuations. The Peak Fitness Club’s dreamy wellness space is my idea of the perfect retreat from the city. Luxury on another level, I relax by the glass-ceilinged pool, before I’m invited into the cosy treatment room. GROUND’s products are made using natural ingredients, and are toxinfree – powered by probiotic-rich plant nutrition. I discuss my current skin concerns with my therapist, so that she can tailor the products she uses. The treatment combines therapeutic massage techniques to calm inflammation,
reinforce the skin barrier, and promote longterm healthy skin. A brushing technique is particularly soothing, and cold stones aim to recharge the skin. I’m so relaxed I nearly fall asleep and my skin is glowing afterwards. Absolute bliss and perfect for bringing you back into balance before or after having a baby. jumeirah.com

The newly opened HVN in Knightsbridge is London’s hottest new wellness destination. Rooted in Ayurvedic principles, HVN combines the best of functional, clinical, and holistic health all under one roof. The luxurious space is dreamy, and I feel instantly soothed by rainforest sounds. I’m booked in for the New Mother Ritual, and I discuss my motherhood journey – from IVF treatment to labour –with my therapist in the palatial treatment room. HVN takes a bespoke approach to each treatment and whether you’re recovering physically, emotionally, or psychologically, they’ll tailor it to your specific needs. The room is equipped with a Hydrobed, which is probably
the most comfortable thing I’ve ever laid on. It’s heated and has chromotherapy lights overhead, as well as a row of shower heads. My tailored treatment includes a full body scrub, massage, and facial. Techniques are designed to reduce swelling, alleviate aches and pains, and promote deep relaxation. After the massage and scrub, I lie under the chromotherapy lights and am gently washed by the shower. It’s the most heavenly treatment and I’d recommend it to any new mum to help you feel like yourself again. the-hvn.com

Venicci Upline 2 with
Tiago 360 car seat
Reviewed by CARLY GLENDINNING
Venicci are masters of elevated strolling, and the new Upline 2 travel system with Tiago 360 car seat doesn’t disappoint. Beauty meets innovation in the Upline 2’s refined chassis – delivering on both style and functionality. This is a seriously stylish stroller, and I was impressed with the new plush fabrics, details, and sleek hardware. The lightweight, yet sturdy, design makes pushing your little one feel e ortless and navigating both pavements and uneven terrain is a breeze. My little one was both comfy and secure in the seat, with a built-in headrest and magnetic five-point harness. She loved being able to switch between facing me and out towards the world. The carrycot is snuggly for babies and has an ergonomic, ventilated mattress and base. It’s perfect for changeable weather with water-repellent fabric and UV 50+ protection. A handy new feature, the Upline 2 also has three adjustable height levels for raising the carrycot and seat unit. I found the car seat easy to attach to the stroller
with the adapters. The Tiago 360 i-Size Car Seat (suitable up to 13kg) has three handle positions, making it a breeze for transfers. The isofix base was easy to install, and I loved the 360 swivel functionality. I also felt very reassured that it was safe, as it’s tested to the latest i-Size (ECE R129/03) safety compliance. The Upline 2 comes with all the accessories you need – from a stylish backpack (a new addition), to a cosy footmu , and rain covers.

Clearing the way for your property move with Curchods and Francesca Harrison
Social media has transformed home organisation from a chore into a lifestyle trend. Instagram and Pinterest have become hubs for sharing hacks, organisation tips and home aesthetics. These platforms allows users to see the immediate impact of decluttering or organising a space. This trend has fuelled demand for professional organisers and decluttering
“Decluttering and organising your home is more than just tidying up”
specialists, as homeowners seek to recreate the sleek, minimalist designs showcased by home organiser influencers. As a result, home organisation has shifted from a practical necessity to a soughtafter element of modern day living.
That being said, decluttering and organising your home is more than just tidying up. It’s about creating a space that works for you. If selling your home, it plays a large role in how it is presented to prospective buyers. Whether you’re looking to refresh your space for longterm living practicality or are in fact looking to sell your home, decluttering o ers multiple benefits that go beyond Instagram aesthetics. Selling a home is as much about creating the right feeling as it is about the right price. Curchods, a Surrey and South West London estate agent, has teamed up with professional declutterer and organiser Francesca Harrison of ‘Your Tidy Space’ to help clients do just that. As part of the partnership, clients who instruct Curchods will receive five free hours of decluttering with Francesca, posing an opportunity to refresh their space before listing.
Decluttering isn’t just about making things look nice, it’s about creating an environment that feels calm and functional. Francesca, who studied Psychology at university, understands how our surroundings influence our mindset. “When working with clients, my focus isn’t just on aesthetics but on what works for their lifestyle,” she says. “A fresh perspective can make all the di erence.”
Francesca is familiar with the world of estate agency, having previously worked with the company as a weekend viewings assistant. This gives her an added advantage in helping sellers prepare their homes for photographs and viewings, ensuring they make the best possible first impression.
If you’re thinking about giving your home a seasonal refresh, Francesca has a few simple tips to get started:
• Make a plan – Tackling clutter room by room makes the process more manageable.
• Start small – Begin with a single drawer or cupboard rather than an entire space.
• Ask the right questions – Do you use it? Do you love it? If not, is it worth keeping?
• Rethink your storage – Clever storage solutions can help maintain order long-term. curchods.com/decluttering
