TRAVEL + CONTEXT
EVERY NATION HAS ITS OWN IDENTITY, THIS IS WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT FROM EVRYONE ELSE. CULTURE CAN BE PORTRAYED THROUGH IMAGES, 3D FIGURES, ART, ARCHITECTURE AND PRODUCT. GERMANY, SWITZERLAND, FRANCE AND ITALY ARE SOME OF THE MANY COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD WHICH HAVE PERFORMED AT THEIR PEAK WHEN CONSIDERING PRODUCT DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE. IN ORDER TO TAKE ON THIS PRECEDENCE, WE NEED TO PHYSICALLY EXPERIENCE IT. TO EXPERIENCE IS TO ENGAGE WITH, AND BY DOING SO YOU WILL INCREASE YOUR INVENTORY OF KNOWLEDGE AND CAPABILITIES WHERE EVER IT MAY BE.
MY NAME IS ZAC EVANGELISTI, IM CURRENTLY STUDYING ARCHITECTURE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA, AUSTRALIA. OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS MY INTEREST IN ARCHITECTURE HAS GROWN CONSIDERABLY, EVEN TO THE POINT WHERE I NOW INVEST A GREAT INTEREST IN PRODUCT AND INDUSTRIAL DESIGN AND GRAPHIC DESIGN. THE IDEA OF REPRESENTATION AND IDENTITY IS FOREMOST WHEN CONSIDERING A PRODUCT, EXPOSING YOURSELF OTHER VAROUS CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS WILL HELP YOU ACHEIVE A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF HOW AND WHY AN OBJECT IS DISPLAYED, FORMED AND DESIGNED LIKE IT IS. ITS FUNCTION BEING PRIMARY, AND FORM SECONDARY.

CONCEPTUALLY THIS PROPOSAL WILL REDEFINE WHAT IS CONSIDERED TO BE A CAFE AND GALLERY SPACE AND TEST ITS POTENTIAL AS TO HOW BOTH OF THESE FUNCTIONS CAN INTERSECT ONE ANOTHER TO CREATE A MORE EXHILARATING ENVIRONMENT.
MATERIAL SELECTION WILL BE GREATLY REVOLVED AROUND THE URBAN FABRI OF THE SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT. TIMBER IS GREATLY UTILISED AS A NATURAL MATERIAL UPON A BUILDINGS FACADE AS WELL AS PERFORATED ALUMINIUM SHEETING WHICH PROVIDES SUN PROTECTION AND VENTILATION.

THSI PARTICULAR PROPOSAL IS TO DRIVE THE BUILDING FORWARD INTO ITS SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT, AND ESSENTIALLY INTERCONNECTING ONE SPACE TO ANOTHER WITHOUT HAVING SPANNING WALLS. THIS PRINCIPLE ACTS IN A METAPHORICAL AND LITERAL SENSE. WHERE THE EXISTING WALLS RUN ON A PARTICULAR TANGET AS SEEN IN THE LOWER DIAGRAM, WHCH LEAD THE EYE OUT OF THE BUILDING AND TOWARDS THE OCEAN. IT IS INTENTIONALLY A METHOD OF ENGAGING THE BUILDING WITH ITS SURROUNDINGS.
THE PLATONIC ARRANGEMENT OF THE FLOORS ALLOW FOR A SLIGHT DIFFERENTIAL IN HEIGHT AND LEVEL THORUGH OUT THE ENTIRE BUILDING. IN TURN, THESE DIFFERENCES IN HEIGHT GIVE A SPECIAL IDENTITY TO A PARTICULAR ROOM, WHETHER IT BE A LIBRARY, TERRACE, KITCHEN OR BEDROOM.
