Building a new home is one of the most exciting processes to experience. It also can be one of the most overwhelming when it comes to making your interior selections. “Where do I start? What color walls do I want? Do I pick tile first... or maybe my cabinets? How will I make sure everything goes together?”
As an interior designer, these are questions I hear all too often from home owners - and these individuals are not alone. Millions of Americans are glued to televisions shows and magazines looking for the answer; looking for design tips, expertise and direction on where to start. Here are a few helpful tips to follow when designing your home: KEEP YOUR CANVAS NEUTRAL
Many individuals love color but are scared or unsure of how to incorporate it into their home. If I have said it once I have said it a million times - keep your canvas timeless and neutral. Your interior canvas includes the surface areas in your home that are the most prominent: main flooring, wall colors, cabinetry, countertops, etc. Does this mean beige and boring? Absolutely NOT, you can create a stunning canvas by simply using contrast, pattern, or even texture while maintaining a neutral palette. Pop your favorite color(s) in accents or items that can easily change to avoid costly redecorating in the future. BE PRACTICAL & FOCUS ON FUNCTION
Let’s be honest, we always want what we can’t or shouldn’t have and all have different needs, especially in the home. When selecting product for your home make sure they function well for your life-style. When I am talking with home owners I always ask very simple yet important questions. For example, “is this your primary residence? Will there be young children or pets in the home? Do you cook or order out?” By knowing answers to questions like these you can

determine what type of products are appropriate for your home.
