EYES LIKE YOURS Home Clock Series

This seris of home clocks is designed on the topic of Animal Protection. I try to arouse people’s awareness by using animals’ faces, especially animals’ eyes. Everytime people look at the clock, they will subconsciously gaze at the eyes. A reasonable hypothesis is that there is a longterm impact on people which can create a sense of empathy. Hopefully, the empathy may finally lead to actions to protect animals. The whole design is based on the Emotional Design Theory by Donald Norman. My thesis is to study how visceral level design can affect reflective level thinking, in this case is how visual pattern can influence people’s feelings.

Donald Norman:

Three Levels of Design

REFLECTIVE BEHAVIORAL

VISCERAL

How can visceral level influence reflective level?

Humans are sensitive to human faces, especially eyes. There is some potential that the pattern of eyes (visceral) can influence people’s feelings(reflective).

So far, nearly 10,000 Hope Primary Schools have been built and helped over 2 million kids in poverty-stricken areas get education.

Movable model

I have different ideas about connecting these spheres. It should be simple and strong enough for complex movement without extra pieces.

ROTATION

Preset the movement by rotating the ring. Angle and speed are recorded and repeated. Teenagers can easily set the movement and by combining different parts, creating uniquely moving robots.
