CHONGQING CHAOTIANMEN SAFDIE ARCHITECTS, BOSTON 2013 Location Type Area Phase Role
Chongqing, China High-rise Mixed 947,000 SF Under construction Junior architect
The design for the project to be situated at this gateway is generated by the image of powerful sails upon the water. The outer facades of the project’s six towers—the transparent surfaces that will face the water to the north—are meant to recall a fleet of ancient Chinese ships, with their huge rectangles of white canvas filled by the wind. Personal role • Participated in DD phase on facade design and development • Produced sections and elevations in Revit • Prepared presentation set for workshop with associate architect • Work under project manager directly and attend client meetings Software • Revit 2013 •AutoCAD 2014 • Indesign

Multiple small patio inside the courtyard creates micro-climate to help air circulation in the building. Personal role • Conceptual design, 3D modeling, analysis • Prepare presentation set
PERSONAL PROJECT ENTRANCE AND REVEALING OF ARCHITECTURE VIRGINIA TECH, THESIS PROJECT, 2011-2012 Location Type Area Award
Alexandria, VA Kindergarten 20,000 SF 2012 AIA Blue Ridge Merit Award
The entrance is not solely about the physical form of a door, rather it is the beginning of a building; a conversation between public and private, light and dark, safety and danger. The entrance is also a threshold for smell, texture, sound, light, and color. Designing a kindergarten is a media to think about building in a way with children’s feeling, to touch, to see, to smell, to play and to explore the secrets behind the entrance. The design began with a curve wall followed site slope of the hill in the park. Not just one solid piece concrete wall, the wall expands thickness, growing and splits, all the stories start here.

SECTION 1
SECTION 2
The concrete wall is a creature of its own. It starts from north and curves towards south. From a single point expands and splits to two pieces of walls. The stair to the basement level happen between the two walls. Light comes from the skylight window and goes smoothly down along the triangle edge of the wall, which also functions as the structure beam. It is a secrete and magic space children can explore.
In the library, bookshelves are built inside of the thick wall. The window openings slant towards the centers at varying degrees, letting in light at different angles.
WATER GARDEN The ramp connects the ground level to the second floor, cantilevered from the structure beam on the wall. With green color copper on the top the curve wall, when it rains, water comes from the top of the wall, falls down to the pool. It is a celebrating moment in the kindergarten.
