An exploration of interaction and visualization technical for multi-touch public displays in the context of future hospitals Reasons to undertaking this project This PHD project is a practice in the field of Interaction design/HCI, particularly within the area of end-user interaction and communication. Within the context of hospital, there are continuous innovations and developments of approaches and products to provision of public interactive information facilities. However, the wide ranging and long term issue of information transmission between hospital users has limitation. My PhD research should expand and improve the communication among various roles in hospital by interactive system and product
Introduction Most recently, the multi-touch display has become an important feature of computing device and of interactive system in public place. Especially in hospital, an interactive public information system improves the efficiency of medical care service. One of the most important issues in hospital is to deal with higher level complex information for different users. The People need to handle mixed information of location, time, cost, staff, tools, procedure, documents, and results and so on. The interactive public information system demands close attention to issues of functionality, usability, and sustainability. Standards for gestures of multi-touch devices have been defined by operating system, and the standard for visual styles on electronic screen has been formulated by graphic software. However, it is necessary to develop more suitable and specific facilities and products with specific interaction way for the context of hospital. These products should be integrated with smart Interaction and visualization techniques to improve the communications in hospital. For carrying out efficient functionality and broadening the possibilities of visualization and interaction design, the research needs abundant involvement of patient, family members, doctor, nurse, specialist with different background, and needs to track the information flow in these users from different perspective. Theoretical studies will be focused on behaviors and process of acquiring information from a complicate system, and also on the information structure in hospital. Empirical studies will be conducted to design actual facilities and products, and seek after more meaningful and utility interactions. Exploitative studies place the project in a wider research by iterative user testing and involve participatory innovation.
Research Aims -To design interactive facilities and products to improve hospital public information communication by multi-touch display -To expand and explore the possibilities of suitable, efficient, and intuitive interaction design with artistic, clear, and explicit visualization technique -To explain the role of interactions and visualizations during a information transmission -To formulate an public interaction systems for medical care following interaction and visualization industrystandard
Research questions - What are the obstacle and opportunities faced by users when undertaking a procedure in hospital? - What are the accessibility and usability issues in public information of hospital? - How to resolve access and usable issues practically by interaction design and visualization design? - What are the meanings of interaction industry-standard and legal legislation of hospital information accessibility?
Methodology The project should be collaboration between hospital, university, and CETREA A/S. some technical companies and manufacture for multi-touch screen should also be involved during the empirical study. the research should be based on user centered design and human computer interaction to gain knowledge of users’ need and solution from professional perspective, and interpreted to the design on screen. It will use the method form product design and participatory design to get innovation and to build the actual prototype. The project will include regularly integrative process of test accessibility and usability
