TWO PROBLEMS Nowadays, power tools are commonly used in modern families. The figure shows that eighty percent of Chinese families own power tools and the usage rate of different tools are widely divergent. Most of current power tools are designed for professionals. It remains a problem whether their function and operation are fit for family use. To understand this issue, I conducted a survey among 35 families and following are the feedbacks.

How often do you use these powertools? Drill Screwdriver Wrench Percussion drill Scroll saw Grinder Motor saw

What do you think of the powertool you are using now? The current power tools are complicated to use. I need to read the instructions several times in order to find out how to use them. The ponderous and ugly look makes me feel that they are hard to use. These tools are usually incompatible with family furnishings, so I have to store them up and only find them out when I need them. However, finding them is always troublesome.

Integration of Different Power Tools The survey shows that electric drills, electric wrenches and screwdrivers are three most commonly used tools because of their same working principles. Due to the low professional, we combine these three tools on one frame and switch functions by changing the gears and the working head.

Suitable for Various Angles According to the survey and practical usesďźŒwe find out that under many irregular circumstances, it is hard for the current tools to meet the needs of stability and operating accuracy. Therefore, I hope to change the form of current tools to expand their application scope.

Friendly Interface Current professional and non-professional tools usually have unclear interface with numbers showing less obvious instructions. Non-professionals at home have no idea of grasping these instructions quickly and expertly. Thus, I decide to optimize the interface.

Accurate and Stable It makes the work more accurate by using the accessory measuring equipment on the tools, including depth calibrator and level check.

The Combination of Package and Charger The charger of current tools are less designed, so I decide to make a package in which the charger can be internally installed so that the whole product looks artistic and integrated. 5

Four Different Background

One Same Project

We come from different places: Denmark, Sweden, China and Taiwan. Different living environment leads to different cultures, customs and design concepts.

We gathered in Shanghai, the design center of China, crossing ten thousand kilometers, to complete one topic: Moveable Workspace.

Our majors are also different. Cristian majors in mechanical design, Louis learns design management, Rex and I major in industrial design. Therefore, we often hold different views and provide different solutions.

With the help of teachers from Tongji University and Design School olding and the sponsor of Paustian, a Denish furniture brand, we four students studied and designed for one and a half month, busrting numbers of new and innovative ideas.

There are about 700 million obesity patients around the world. Obesity is the direct cause of diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, ventilation and many other diseases.

According to my survey on 53 white-collar workers aged 25 to 35 years old, 37% of them admitted to be depressed, irritable and lonely due to work pressure and lack of communication with others.

46

How Should It Be Normally, a healthy young man should live a healthy lifestyle. They should have a balanced diet, eat more healthy food, including fresh vegetable and fruits to provide rich nutrition and energy for body. They should take active exercises to build a stronger body and prevent diseases by promoting metabolism. They should participate more in social activities and communicate more with friends in order to relieve psychological pressure.

47

However, with higher pressure in work and faster life pace, young people nowadays tend to choose another way of living: In order to save time, they always east fast food and take-away food. These food are high-fat and lack in nutrition. People have less time to do exercise due to heavy work. Instead, they surf on internet, play computer games and watch TV series to relax. Many young white-collar workers live alone. Therefore, they have very little communication with others after work and only connect people via social networks.

ACTIV Activ is a kind of device which can generate electricity by human activity. It has two belts tied on thigh and crus respectively. The belts and the round-shaped generator are closely connected by two interlocking bars. When binding this device at knee-joint, which is an active part of human body, every pace will lead to the move of this device. The bar will drive the generator to produce electricity and store it in the attached battery.

AMPY AMPY also did it. By capturing human activity, the kinetic energy is converted to electrical energy by inductive element and stored in the internal lithium battery. According to the creator, the internal power of AMPY is capable to store the electrical energy for a month which is generated by users in one week. On electronic devices with iOS and Android system, AMPY data can be recorded and transformed.

Billy Bai 25, Travel Planner, Snowboarding nthusiasts Billy Bai has been crazy about snowboard for 11 years. Because he works as a vocational travel planner, he has the opportunity to experience a number of excellent skiing resorts. With great psychological quality, he is keen on trying new things and he sees skiing as an ultimate challenge both mentally and physically. In 2014, he hit his head on exposed rocks and he got sternum fracture. But thanks to the helmet, his head wasn’t injured. After the accident, he realized the importance of the helmet.

“ It is difficult to adjust the functions of the helmet when wearing heavy ski gloves. ”

“ Ski goggles should be fixed on the helmet. ”

“ Although people often ski in cold environment, it is of great importance to ventilate and cooling due to vigorous exercises. ”

“ Because most snowboarders are quite young, it will be better if the helmet is designed with a feeling of speed and personalization in appearance. The design also should be closely related to skiing culture. ” 68

During skiing, skiers find that because of the heavy gloves, it difficult to adjust the tightness of BOA system. It is also a hard task to insert and extract the fixed belt. In order to complete the task, skiers are supposed to take off the gloves in cold wind. Therefore, the aim of designing Helm Pro is to make sure that skiers can adjust the helmet quickly and easily with their gloves on.

Ski goggles are key equipment for skilled skiers. But most of them are fixed on by clamps in current design. So, the shape of helmet should be designed for goggles to fix more easily and the shape should also be more natural.

In recent years, as people indiscriminately exploit, utilize and damage our earth, greenhouse gases get significantly higher. And severe water damage, over-exploitation of natural resources, toxic waste emissions and other human behaviors directly cause the global warming which threatens the safety of our planet. The consequences of the global warming is not just melting glaciers and rising sea levels, more serious harm will ensue. Such as urban flooding, ocean acidification, species extinction, substantial growth in the number of natural disasters like tsunami and hurricanes.

In this link of the production, beyond optimizing production processes, controlling the pollutants, and other basic requirements, we should put emphasis on the aspect of selecting raw materials and taking advantage of them : Use environmentally friendly materials which can be easily recycled, and have a long service life Reduce excessive material processing Fully use the material as possible.

FACTORY

85

The store should has two functions: store and sale in the same time. Storage area: the pallets change from wood to paper which have the same load-bearing capacity, but lighter and more environmentally friendly Sales area: the assembled finished display to the consumer. After purchasing, take the components in flat-pack which are easily stored and transported.

STORE & SALE

Make it simple! Not only the outlook of the product should be simple and pure, we can also reduce the components in order to get more benefits like : Much more easier for consumers to assemble Reducing packaging weight Less volume, and more products on one pallet.

CONSUMER

After a while of using, the furniture will be broken. Thanks to the use of recyclable materials, as well as every part of the product are removable, consumers has two ways to maintain the product : If the product is damaged slightly, you can check out the broken part and only purchase the same part, and assemble it on your furniture If the product is totally broken, you can send it to the recycle center. The workers will recycle and renew the material for a new product.

RECYCLE

Thanks to the flat-pack, a truck can load 17-35% cargos and reduce the carbon emission.

86

The United Nations Department of Humanities determine pine as environmentally friendly furniture

material for its natural color, maintaining the natural qualities of pine, clear and beautiful texture, and

do not need too much processing. Pine is practical, durable, flexible and breathable, and easy to maintain. Meanwhile it is inexpensive, and enjoys abundant raw materials.

Non-woven is a new generation of environmentally friendly material, which is moistureproof, breathable, flexible, lightweight, easily biodegradable, non-toxic, colorful, and can be recycled.

Our game is inspired by a cartoom movie:Johnny xpress. It tells us in the future, you can deliver express to the whole universe, and the destination planet can be different in many ways like size or culture. So why don’t we just design a game which can realize our dream to travel through the universe and enjoy the unknown adventure

TESTING Improve Step By Step During the project, we made about 5 rules and tried nearly 10 maps to test our game. And we also use 3D printer to make dozens of spaceships to decide the final model. I really enjoy the way that we constantly test and alter our product until it works well.
