BASE PLAN
UPDATE
In the based plan provided by local architecture firm, Anna louise Inn is designed in to guestroom area and the Lytle house becomes the dining area. Two building are linked by the central lobby in between that used to be an outdoor street. A kitchen on the end of the lobby serves to both lobby lounge and restaurant. In my updated plan, I keep two buildings separated and extend the lobby area with an casual cafe that opens to the street on the otherside. The kitchen is squeezed into Lytle House. Three guestrooms on the ground level is transformed into a library lounge that is semi public. A general gift shop opens next to the entrance to sell local products. 0

Glass box, as we seen a lot in Museum and exhibition, is a visual symbol of display and emphasis. We intend to display things about Cincinnati such as photos, maps, artworks, journeys. Later, the glass box itself becomes a design scheme that will blended into the existing building.

The original facades of two buildings are keeped as much as possible except all the openings are designed into either glazed doors or penaltraded glass boxes. The interior of the center lobby and cafe are both in low saturated and neutral color tone to keep them simple as well as elegant, thus the guests will experience the contrast of contemporary space and the original historical building. The cafe provides more seats and the scheme is more casual and welcoming to attract both hotel guests and local people to spend time.

The circulation follows the skylight, creating direct path through spaces. Lighting is one of the most important elements that I considered. I cut the shell from north to south to light the interior. With the atrium cut out from the second floor, the geometric shell design also allows the space to receive daylight indirectly and the same time in a large scale. For the interior space, I try to keep the
rustiness and the sense of sculptural beauty in order to reflect the exterior and overall form. I chose gray tone fabrics for sofa, white oak finish for table sets and shelves. By creating simplicity and a sence of museum-like wide-open space, I intend to provide readers a place that they will be quiet spontaneously and have more inspiration during study and reading.

MANUFATURING CIRCUS
2014 SUMMER SEMESTER STUDIO: WORKING SPACE WORKING SPACE IN THE FUTURE GROUP PROJECT
CONCEPT The traveling circus has been around since the late 19th century. These massive entertainment venues are known for their specially trained performers and animals that travel all over the country and sometimes all over the world, bringing their special talents to people everywhere. If these enormous shows can simply pick up and move from town to town, why not apply that same concept to something as enormous as a manufacturing facility for our project - work place in the future?

Because these units are of the same dimensions as ordinary shipping containers, they can be easily transported virtually anywhere in the world.
