Stator

Capacitive displacement sensors "are non-contact devices capable of highresolution measurement of the position and/or change of position of any conductive target." They are also able to measure the thickness or density of non-conductive materials. Capacitive displacement sensors are used in a wide variety of applications including semiconductor processing, assembly of precision equipment such as disk drives, precision thickness measurements, machine tool metrology and assembly line testing. These types of sensors can be found in machining and manufacturing facilities around the world.(From Wikipedia)

INTEGRATION OF PACKAGING & PRODUCT Duration: 4 weeks Completed: June, 2014 S u p e r v i s o r : Yanqiu Chen

BACKGROUND

All commodities need packaging. But problems arise in packaging. When consumers take products home, they throw away most boxes or plastic bags, which generates plenty of trash and waste. As an industrial designer and packaging design student, I am asked to work on a packaging design for bulbs. I naturally think of the integration of both areas so that all the materials will be used as part of the products and that waste will be eliminated.

STRUCTURE RESEARCH Considering that the protective structure can be also used as an aesthetic and functional part of the lamp in addition to its role in packaging, I believe that this structure should be not only stable, but also artistic. After trying several potential structures, I choose the most effective one according to the property of material and operability.

A Because of material resilience, Solution A is hard to be folded into shape. So it turns out to be a bad solution.

B Solution B provides a perfect protection and stability. It can play a support role for the bulb when the package is used as a lamp.

Solution C can be fold into a flexible shape. It can be used inside the box to protect the bulb and outside the box to be the part of the lamp.

When discussing the people net, we notice that desks or tables play an important role. We often sit at a desk or table to study together, to communicate ideas, to have a chat or make friends. In many cases, they are the connections of people net. So we can illustrate the concept with the design of a multifunctional desk.

THE SCROLL

In many Asian countries, tea culture is important. By tasting tea, people think about the meaning of life, just like in reading. Savoring tea is not only a way to tell the good tea from the mediocre one, but also a way people take delight in their reverie and in tea-drinking itself.

CUP DESIGN 满杯:过剩 >70% EXCESS

<70% INSUFFICIENT

CUP DESIGN As the Chinese saying goes, "the perfect cup is that leaving 70% of space for tea, and 30% of space for your heart." When a host serves tea for his guests, he usually pours about 70% of a full cup, because it is not respectful enough if the tea is too little or too much. It symbolizes the human relationship in action as shown in the Chinese tea culture. That is, when saying or doing something, we have a tendency to remain moderate and leave some margin. In the design of this cup, the typical shape of the internal surface gives the water level a different shape. When there is about 70% of tea, it will be a full circle, which means perfection or harmony in the Chinese culture.

REDUCTIONAL DESIGN OF CFL PACKAGING Best Design Award China Star Packaging & National Packaging Design Awards

Project duration: 2 weeks C o m p l e t e d : M ay, 2 0 1 3 Supervisor: Chao Xu

REDUCTIONAL DESIGN OF CFL PACKAGING Waste Reduction The package is shaped in one single piece of cardboard. Each expanded map can be matched with one another, which means less waste and more cost reduction.

Easy to Open and Display The design of hanging hole makes it convenient to be exhibited on the shelves. By opening the package from the back, a customer can easily take out the product.

Printing Reduction The introduction of recyclable paper with minimal printing ink can minimize the impact to the environment and reduce the cost.

Protection The folded structure provides support and protection for the bulb, strengthening the stability of the package.
