Site Plan

The area is in ancient capital of Nanjing which is famous for MIng city wall. Beside, the building is next to the Xuan Wu lake whchi is a great landscape for tourists. According to Nanjing city wall protection policy, the wall can not be bestroyed. So the site is in the area which has been repaired and have a gap. The building provides a place for resting, drinking, reading and watching the scenery.

Site introduction: The site is in the NanJing tech University School where is famous for its mountains.Because the building will be built in the hill, it is important to bend in the landscape.Besides, the building is designed for architecture students.So the space should be open, free and creative which are necessary for inspiration.The architecture provides many platforms where we can have a rest .You can just open the door and enjoy the beautiful view outside and do some drawing or communicate with your friends.


The layout of classroom is around the courtyard which not only provide light and ventilation, but also provide a p;ace for communiction and resting.Besides, The relationship between three courtyard is very interestiong and you can get green freely. Besides, the platforms provide many space for model making and resting place to enjoy the scenery and fresh air.

Office Atrium: Open space are connected by stairs and courtyard,The sight communication will be the most important part of this building. Many teaching activities can be around the courtyard. And when you are tired, you can go out and have a rest. Through inserting blocks each other, it will create many outdoor platforms, which will provide many space for communication and activities.

GROWING & FLOATING ON THE HILL

Terraced fields: In china, the most famous scene is terrace which is famous in countryside. The terrace is depend on and make use of the mountains to create the staged growth farmland where farmers can grow their crops and wish for the harvest. So, because of this scene, I decide to fuse this landscape with the architecture to fit in the mountains which provides best destination for tourists.

Functional Analysis

The building is on the Zijing mountain which is famous in Nanjing.Every year, hundreds of touristis will come here and enjoy the beautiful scene of Zijing mountain. Here comes a problem. It is difficult to construct a hotel in mountain and do less harm to the moutains and trees where this is in the Nanjing natural scenic spot.By using the design of ladder-like ways, it will almost do little harm to the hill and provide a vast platform for people to enjoy the scene.Besides, roof vegetation will hide the bulding from froest and do good to energy saving.

The wood building is like a silk and the non-linear style gives people the feeling of etherealize and fit in the landscape behind which is a mountain and the building is used as a country exhibition. The archutects use the wood nearby and can make the buiding fused with the environment.People who come here can enjoy charm of the light and shadow. With the time going by, peoeple will have different experience.

Curved bamboo will make arch to support the paper above the surface.

With the help and tension between each pieces. It can create a half squre shape.

With the help of stick and steel , the pattern can be very stable.

In the final step, I want to use this pattern to make canopy of differnt function buildings.

Different pieces will make different holes which will make people feel not very boring.

With the tension between each lines, it can create some space like arch and will be very beautiful.

First, I did some research on China mountain scale. This way of linking make the pattern very elegant.

How about different shape of each unte? Can create different shaow or more stable?Let us to test

This first pattern is very sharp and with less holes for wind to make inside cool.

At last, I use the 3D printing to create 3 models which use the pattern I tested.

With glass as supporting pattern and bamboo as supporting. Then with paper as surface. With more curved pattern, it create much holes. The shaow durig each unite is very beautiful.

In this big model, I use mountain scale shape to create big space for people to have different feelings.

This studio is aim at research on weaving pattern such as Weave overlap,Looping, Knotting, Scales, Braiding, Frame lashing, webbing and Links. All this pattern are different in linking ways, details, materials and pattern. We first research on fundational weaving and do many research on details and how to link each other. Then during my studio study, I find another great link weaving which called China mountain scale. China mountain scale are often used in armor to protect the soldier from weapons to create harm to them. The surface of it is 3 dimentional and each one lock with each other tightly with just little holes on it. If some place is broken, it can be replaced quickly and change another new one. The whole pattern like a unite. In some way, it may be a little flexible, it can also create arch shape. However, it connections are very flexible.

The barrier block the retails on both sides and prevent people coming here.

Here is also a subway station on the site. So how to connect station with building?

I create a bridge to connect both sides and diagonal corrider to make it continuous.

Here are many openings on the top which can provide enough sun light to interior.

There are three barriers on the site. The barrier i working on is a subway line which separate the junction and Industry area.

Barrier: The most difficult point is that every columns and walls should avoid subway underpassing. Also it is important to design public and green space to attract more people here.

Breaking Barriers: Our goal is to rejuvenate Broadway Junction and adjacent area. To achieve this goal we are positioning a new commercial, community, and HRA hub on top of the most limiting barrier at Broadway Junction. This new connection hub works to “go across(?)� the barrier with massing that offers porosity and connectivity. This hub acts as a connection device that establishes links to the currently disconnected commercial corridors. People become to perceive barrier as a part of hub, and could go across barrier both of under and over the barriers with using commercial and community program, which means people could go up to go across barrier with using commercial and community mall and go down to under the barrier with using commercials. At the scale of architecture, the main concern is encouraging the public to move above and below street level. This strategy is about integration and establishing the new hub as a way to reframe the transportation barrier. We want to make this building become one part of communty and make contribution to the whole city. First plan become a commericial corrider for people to go shopping and they can meet and make communications. The second floor can be a great place for communty service and provide a space for MTA office. The third floor is a entrance to the whole building. Forth floor is the place for HRA.

Genealogies of the Column

Ground Floor:

Narrative: My studies began with the production of different spatial modules. Column spacing and cross section is used to explore distributions as point or directional piers of different lengths. Long piers become short walls. Modifications to the spacing and directionality of four columns produces spaces of different orientations and degrees of enclosure. These rules produced a number of different spatial modules and sequences-each with particular spatial effects. I distributed various modules within the library producing an activated reflected ceiling plan, columns of different massing and silhouette. This produces entry, loggia like circulation spaces, study areas, double high spaces, etc.

The Floating City

LA-2069 Catastrophe Architecture-Urban Stack Santa Monica - LA Individual work 2019/04


My concept of LA2069 is about development of transportation and catestrophe. With the development of transportation and more density of city. The whole city will be very crowded. Besides, more and more highway are build for quick and safe transportation. The site of this building is near the sea.

So according to the data of global warming, the sea level wil arise, the beach and area near the beach will be under the sea. So how to deal with catastrophe is a big problem. My way to deal with this condition is to keep the existing building. For this building, romove the low level facade and keep the structure to make building still stable. And the the initial condition of upper level with can be taken as other function.

Besides, for the ground level, the most important transportation is boat and floating building. As a result, i design the free market on the sea, the floating market can come to here and pin to the pier area which is often used as open space for the market. In conclusion, the ground level will be free market and existing building.


How people come here? Some of people will come here by boat and floating building. Most people will come here by highway. In the future, sea level rising, cars can not drive on the ground the level.

So only highway can connect to the building above the sea. So in this design here is two high way pass through the building and have a subway to make connection. There are some drop off space for automatic cars.

When you arrive at building you can use core ball to get to each floors. The whole box is separated into three part. Each part has specific function. We call it Urban Stack which is multi-functional building.

Matter Aggregation

Shenzhen Biennale Exhibition Project Shanghai Dream Center Group work 2019/12


Ground Floor

Design Brief: This studio aim at using Ameba and Keramba to design the shape of the whole building with the joints we chose before. And using joints into the aggregation to create different spatial experience. We using stacking and took core element and distance from the joints to the core as a factor to arrange each layers in X and Y directions. The most important part of studio is mudel. First, we chose several joints and made detailed model of joint. Then we tested how this aggregation can come into the cantilever shape and how long it can extend. Second, we test the aggregation in bigger scale and tried different joints types. For the final review, we made the 1:10 architecture model for Biennale Exhibitiona and used Robot to create 1:1 scale of cantilever model.

OTHER WORKS :

THE MOUNTAIN OF FLAMES The architecture is a test for grasshopper class. Using different index and control pattern to control shape of the building. For the complex, I use flame and mountain as symbol to make complex hidden in the snow.

BLOOD VESSEL OF CITY The architecture is in Nanjing Li shui serving for car drivers. With structure of steel, the building can be finished quickly and give people the feeling of efficiency and modern.

CROUCHED DRAGEN  DISC The buiding is near the Qinghuai River where people have great sight into FuZi miao old street. The whole style is like a drugen coiling a Yu Hua stone which is famous in Nanjing. The most interesting part of building is circular ramp roof with grass and road to the top of the building.


INTERN WORKS :

(Credited by company to use this drawings i drew during intern in personal portfolio.) I worked in ZGF (headquarter in Portland) for the summer intern (From June 04 /2018 to August 09 /2018 ).And I helped with TCORE airport project to do some anlysis of security area. Besides, i also responsible for the renderings for tbe whole airport market and security area during the intern. I used sketch up and Revit to modelling and used AI and Photoshop to do Circulation diagram and Handrail testing. For most of time, I used enscape to do some renderings of serveral scenes of the TCORE. In addition, i also involved in Stanford University project to help with some conceptual design.

I worked in SOM (headquarter in Chicago) for the summer intern (From June 04 /2019 to August 09 /2019 ).And I helped with one Bangkok project.I was responsible for the Hotel building of the whole complex especiallly the crown area which is the top part the architecture. I used vray for the renderings and worked on design of the facade, outside terrace, canopy and materials of the column. Besides, the whole building is in DD process so i also focus on Revit and detail drawings and also help with another high-rise building in Sydney.
