WHY

WE

CHOOSE

THIS

SITE

CITY SCALE Considering the inclusion of a complex function for the healthcare center, there are more possibilities for development in the city center location in terms of the mix of people and innovation of models.

WHY

WE

CHOOSE

THIS

SITE

BLOCK SCALE As a neighbourhood with a long history in Piacenza, the discussion of its regeneration strategies on a small scale is, in our opinion, an extraordinary reference for future urban development.

1. The Urban tourist route passes through the site and several important Urban nodes, which brings a large number of potential suitable people. 2. There are several schools in the adjacent blocks of the site while lacking some supporting public facilities, which provides us new functional combination ideas for new Healthcare Center.

1. The southwest facade adjacent to the small open space, but the connection is weak.

1. For southwest facade (long facade): the door cuts the street off from the inner courtyard of the building.

2. We considered introducing the street public space into the courtyard in order to enhance the public character of the site.

2. For southeast facade (short facade): all the existing Opening elements are windows. 3. By adding door on the short side and create small square on the long side facade, the connection becoms more stronger.

From window to door Balcony Railing Changes

Window Pattern Changes

Spatial Sequence Changes & Openness Changes

The building has a high historical value, and its facade has barely changed over the decades, except for a railing at a street corner and a window that was converted into a door.

While retaining the original facade of the building, we considered changing some the Windows into doors to strengthen the connection between interior and exterior.

The more the connection with the surrounding rooms is, the stronger the public property of the space is. otherwise, the stronger the privacy of the space is.

By analyzing the attributes of each room, the areas with strong public attributes are highlighted to provide guidance for later intervention.
