Proj e c t St atement Knowledge within the books are sacred and powerful, however within this era of digitalisation, these are depreciated by youths as the Internet of Things (IoT) took over most of their received content. this project is an experimental suggestion that libraries could be storing a different form of information, in this case, the memories of the users interacting with the space. Given that the end user of the library is youths from 10-24 years old, the library spaces must be designed to reflect their personalities, emotions, and nature. D o e s t he yout hs ac tu a l ly ne e d a convent iona l librar y ? Even though tasked to design a youth library for Taiping, a cohort effort of interviewing 150 respondents reveal that most of the youths feel that there’s not a need for a conventional library. This made me rethink the role of a library serves within a community. Libraries functions as a archival of information. With the internet of things (IoT) will the library we relevant to its primary function anymore? Can a library still function as an archival of another form of information?

Sp ac e as a me mor y arch ive, librar y as a col le c t ion of memor ies Youths entering the library will be going through a book crafting workshop where they craft their recording medium in the form of sketchbooks, scrap papers, mood boards, test pads, etc. Then going through different ‘chambers’ of different spatial qualities and programs, thus recording down the memory created within, whether with friends, alone or a crowd. The circulation to reach the chambers are purposely crafting to resemble an adventure, with book racks operating as “secret doors” and serendipitous positioning of staircases. These experiences are inserted to provide a more memorable experience in memory recording.

Proj e c t St atement This project embarks a morphological, and philosophical understanding of how a simple structure of a mortar bowl provides us very important hints to achieve the final vision of the Life-long Learning CoLab – to amalgamate the urban fabric through the implementation of healthy flavours.

C re at ing a cont inuous fo o ds c ap e Located between the Taiping Wet market and its historical Larut Matang Hawker Centre, the brownfield site is proposed to be a connector of the both of them by functioning as a space to educate the public of the importance of healthy cooking ingredients. Planters are designed to be part of the facade to grow fresh herbs and spices for the food classrooms.

L e ar n ing sp ac e s and t he imp or t ance of dy nam icit y Mortar’s nature of breaking rigidity into fluids is expressed through urban studies where the walls of the building are constructed to unite instead of segregate. The mortar’s quality of centrality emphasised the importance of the indoor multipurpose space as a centre to implement newly experimented flavours, symbolising mortar’s product that can always be found in the centre-most area of the bowl.

Pro j ect Stat e m en t Being listed as UNESCO World heritage site since 2008, Georgetown faced its difficulty in developing sustainabily without the luxury of clearing out its historical architecture. Its urban heat island effect can go up to 6 °C as the city lacks a breathing space for vegetation to grow alongside of its development. To resolve the issue, we turn our eye into another dimension.

Given the unused vertical walls of the shophouses (up to 16000sqm in the city centre), Georgetown is able to increase its green area, sequesting carbon, and act as a filter to dust particles among the streets within a modular vertical planting system. The infrastructure alleviates the UHI effect and most importantly maintain Georgetown’s UNESCO World Heritage site status.

Since most of them dwell in social housings (35% of the total residential lots in Saint Denis), this proposal aims to change the public’s view in living conditions inside them. Three plastic bags given for a 100grams food
It’s t ime we a dm it its to o much The trigger of the project is the immense use of single-use, unrecycleable plastic bags in the community of Kuching, Sarawak. Up to 3 plastic bags are used to contain less than 100 grams of food. If we can’t wait for the recycling technology to innovate, we can start by looking into upcycling wastes. Plastic bags are cut and braided into strips, designed and tested into a functioning chair.
