It was my fourth time to go to Japan. One of my Japanese friends gave me a teapot and a tin of green tea for souvenirs. The material of teapot is a bit rough, hardly compared with red stoneware for its fineness; the green tea is fresh and shapeless, hardly compared wih Longjing and Houkui for their elegance; so it’s hard to show them off, but I have more doubts. Oneday, Mr. Ikko Tanaka explained to me in his essay about Japanese aesthetics, he said that a Korean object which was just for daily uses was used for sado, unexpectedly being an handicraft of high culture. He thought that it was a special aesthetic character of Japanese, “putting an ordinary bowl without patterns and color in the palm, rethinking its uniqueness, tasting its color, realizing its touch, appreciating its extreme ordinariness.”
