OTHER INFILTRATION —SPACE REVERSAL OF URBAN BLOCKS Type: Academic Project Location: Medellin, Colombia Year:2017/Graduate Instructor:Prof. Francisco Sanin

Abstract This project invests on what is the other solution of re-densifing the city center of Medellin, Colombia, rather than the out-bursting highrise towers. The potential of inner voids of urban blocks become the key point of this project. Creating the new fronts of urban blocks, one is inside and the other is above the existing. The main ideas include, building more connections between urban axises, using a series urban interventions to infiltrate into urban blocks, in order to redensify the area into an integrated mixed neighborhood.

Density —Thesis: Urban Renewal for Buji, Shenzhen Location:Shenzhen, China Type:Academic/Group work(partner:Zhang, Tang) Role:Leader/Research,Rendering,Highrise Design,Physical Model Year:2016/Undergraduate Thesis Duration: 4 Months Instructor:XIA Bing (summice@163.com)

Abstract The first task is how to deal with the three transportation lines cutting through the site, which makes the land using rather restricted and limited. Not only to meet the FAR 4.0 requirement but really to activate the surrounding neighborhoods, a 3D high density developing mode is applied here. Instead of the traditional zoning, the city transit system, residential program and co-working space, combined with landscape green system, are highly stacked in a vertical mix-use development.

Inside & Outside —Urban Renovation of Dali City

Location:Dali, China Type:Academic/Group work(partner:Dai,Qiao) Role:Leader/Research,Diagram,Rendering,Guideline,Physical Model Year:2015/Undergraduate Duration: 2 Months Instructor:WANG Jianguo (Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering)

Abstract This project focuses on an urban renewal of North reservoir in Dali City, and the concept of 'Inside and Outside' means we want to ignite the vitality, creating a green loop of this certain area which was used for a large stage performance named Eye of Dali. This design also contains the site design and the waterfront landscape. We start from changing the priority of public transit mode,Cycle Oriented Development (COD), to creat a ideal low-carbon community.

Gravity of Light

Gravity of Light —Museum of Wuyuan Location:Wuyuan,Huizhou,China Type:Academic/Individual Year:2014/Undergraduate Duration: 2 months Instructor:GONG Kai (gk_studio@seu.edu.cn)

Abstract The most impressive thing about architecture in Huizhou is its courtyard space. This prototype has a very strong organic growing system, where courtyard as the core of the basic settlement space are constantly replicated, combined and connected with the external environment. Couryard? Traditional or Contemporary Museum? Landmark or Accomodation

VOLUME? In this design, I reflect on whether a normal method of Volumn Occupation in contemporary museum is suitable everywhere, especially for an ancient village, inserting a HUGE VOLUME in the nature environment could be a disaster. Thus, how to cope with the loacal environment and surrounding tranditional residence to the maximum turn to be the focus of this design.

FROM COURTYARD TO SPACE The site Wuyuan city is a place where traditional method of courtyard establishing and small-scale pattern preserves quite well. Chances are that when you step into a normal local residence, you may be astonished by the space of inner courtyard. Light, Scale together with Materials seem to play a fasinating stage drama here.

Rebuild Community Life

Rebuild Community Life —Senior Nursing Center Location:Nanjing,China Type:Academic/Individual Year:2013/Undergraduate Duration: 2 Months Instructor:XIA Bing (summice@163.com)

Abstract How to solve a series of social problems in a messy community by inserting a Senior Retreat Centre, includes the elderly caring problem, the lack of open space, the overloaded and unsecured traffic situation. This is a people-oriented design. This is a brave try to illuminate the community.

I.SITE: The site is located in a high-density residence, with narrow streets and nearly no public area. How to balance the right and benefit of various groups of people become the core of this project. II.TREES: Six old trees coincidently grow in the heart of the site. Through preserving these old trees, it will become an active place to attract those people who have lacked public area in a long term. III.PATH: Each school day parents go to take their children, at the same time the back street become extremely crowded.Creating a new path from the kindergarden to the highstreet seems to be rather necessary. IV.PUBLIC: The ground floor arrangement show a friendly attitude towards the surrounding neibourhood, for they can get easy access to the open space inside this site. V. RESIDECIAL: On the upper level, all the residence was placed here. The volum occupy the boundary of this site in order to maximize the space of central courtyard.

Space Reversion —Renovation of Student Center Location:Nanjing,China Type:Academic/Individual Year:2013/2st semester of junior year Duration: 2 Months Instructor:Zhou Lin (7941328@qq.com)

Abstract Bringing live to the old building is the topic of this project.Space Reversion occurs not only in the form of physical space, inside to outside, but in the exchange of function. Inserting new function into the old building to make use of long-span space, while the new one plays as supporting roles. A blur place and strong contrast show in this project.
