6. The Ideal Friend Friendship is one of the few kinds of relationship we have control over. That’s why it is an interesting area of research for sociologists. Although, we can’t choose our relatives or teachers, we can choose our friends. But how do we choose them, and why is it that we find some people’s personality more attractive for us than others? We are all looking for similar features in our friends, such as honesty, a good sense of humour and kindness. However, what each of us means by “a good sense of humour”, for example, is different. We are all unique, and so the ideal friend for one person may seem a little boring to someone else!

6a. Films are produced by recording actual people and objects with cameras. Producers also use animation techniques and/or special effects. They comprise a series of individual frames, but when these images are shown rapidly in succession, the illusion of motion is given to the viewer. Film is considered by many to be an important art form; films entertain, educate, enlighten and inspire the audience. Any film can become a worldwide attraction, especially with the addition of dubbing or subtitles that translate the dialogue. Films are also artefacts created by specific cultures, which reflect those cultures, and, in turn, affect them.

2. Theatre and Cinema in Australia The first theatrical show in Australia took place in 1789. It was performed in a mud hut on an improvised stage. A film of the Melbourne Cup horse race was made as early as 1896! Today, theatre and the cinema is thriving in Australia. Each state capital has its own theatre company, and networks of smaller professional and amateur groups take drama to schools and to people who live in out-of-the-way places. The Adelaide Festival Theatre was built in 1973. It is considered one of the finest theatres in Australia. Operas, ballets, concerts, plays, and films are staged there. Outstanding films won Australia an international reputation. Their titles include Picnic at Hanging Rock, Gallipoli, and My Brilliant Career, and others.
