Spirit of Art – Vienna 2015

International Contemporary Art Exhibition

25 - 28 June 2015

Curator

The Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art is delighted to host the Spirit of Art Vienna 2015 in its facility. It is the first time that this international contemporar y ar t exhibition has taken place in the garden palace Schönborn in the Viennese district Josefstadt. The museum has been located in this baroque building since 1917. Its historical ambiance makes an attractive frame for the works of the modern artists. The slogan of the European song contest 2015 in Vienna, “Building Bridges” can also be used as the motto of the Spirit of Art exhibition. By participating in the fair, 25 artists from 13 different countries are coming together and discovering Vienna. Art is a form of communication; it can inspire and provoke thought, as well as soothe the viewer. What can one say about the artworks in 2015? In folk ar tistic st yle, ar tists are like ethnologists in that they reflect their own culture. The home country is an inspiring subject for artistic exploration in a variety of techniques. The study of the countries’ history can also produce exciting works. The artists pull motifs from nature (trees, flowers, sun and water) that stand out in bright colors or step out with an impressionistic effect of a nebulous background. Real motifs in photos or abstract representations in digital

art take the viewer into “dream worlds”. The artistic investigation of people from different populations in the form of portraits is symbolic of a multicultural society. In a global world it should be mainly personality, rather than nationality, that plays a role. I wish the artists a pleasant time together in the Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art and the exciting exhibition every success!

Dr. Claudia Peschel-Wacha

Vice-Director Volkskundemuseum Wien

It is my pleasure to open the 6-th edition of the Spirit of Art international contemporary art exhibition at the Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art - Gartenpalais Schönborn Laudongasse 15-19, 1080 Wien. “Spirit of Art – Vienna 2015” is a part of a series of international exhibitions that run in major cities of Europe. This event represents a variety of contemporary artworks of artists from around the world. During the past five years, many artists exhibited hundreds of artworks. Thousands of precious art lovers, artists, art critics, media people, and diplomatic stuff had an opportunity to visit and appreciate the art show. The concept of the exhibition is based on the idea that an inspirational “Spirit of Art” exists in each artist as his emotional feelings and intellectual response to art. The Artists bring their unique culture, history, motives and their different styles and perspectives to art and life. The participating artists are well known in their countries and worldwide and many of them won international art awards. Their work can be found in fine private art collections and museums around the world. In this exhibition you will be able to get in touch with 25 artists from 13 countries and enjoy with art works, which consists of paintings, sculptures, and digital photos, It is a rainbow of styles, colors, and ideas. The visitors will be amazed how different artists interpret the reality, their heritage and ideas into a single piece of artwork. This is what makes the

exhibition so unique. The event is a magnificent tool to broadcast different ideas and concepts. The exhibitors come from: Austria, Belgium, Spain, France, Germany, Mexico, Israel, Sweden, Ukraine, Argentina, Slovak Republic , Switzerland and Oman. It is a great opportunity for art lovers, art dealers, curators, artists and art collectors from this culture city, Vienna, to visit this exhibition and see a unique and multi-cultural artistic event with a feast of colors, shapes, styles and techniques merging into a vibrant artistic kaleidoscope, and to experience the personality of artists from around the world. The art is a symbol of peace between countries, around the world, between people; it is one language that speaks around the world. This it is wonderful! The spirit of the exhibition is the exotic environment and the cultural meeting of artists from all over the world. It is an experience that one should not miss. I hope that this event will have an echo and will put the beginning to new friendships, new links between different cultures, different people and different artists. I would like to thanks to the artists for their collaboration and to wish them a great success in their art creation. Zina Bercovici International Art Curator
