Abandoned Industry

Detroit was an auto city. It grew because of the auto industry and now that the industry has moved out it's presence remains in the abandoned factories and warehouses. When the factories were operating, they were in use and populated for, at least portions of the day. Now that that's not the case, they've become empty channels which are visually unappealing as well as way out of the scale of the residential neighbourhoods that surround them. not only do they create gaps in the city by being monstrously ugly and huge, they create an isolation which is a looming presence in the city. Artists bring a specific vibe. They also are effected by the spaces they occupy. They bring a romantic notion to a city which has been deadened.

Industrial Waste Land

As a result of factories and other developments which might have been abandoned due to economic reasons, pieces of industrial wasteland were left over. Like factories, they present a different scale for the user. that scale is large. Because it's possible that future development will occur at these sites, it's not necessary to displace them. A link is needed to connect the different neighbourhoods that are on different sides of said wastelands and this can be done by creating green corridors. Communities and pieces

A city connected by green paths allows its residents to feel connected and cared for. It makes getting around easier and experiencially fun.
