Bouquet Tokujin Yoshioka, 2008 Description Chair on swivel pedestal base. Upholstery is injected flame-retardant polyurethane foam on fiberglass shell. Base is steel with grey lacquer finish; on glides. Hand-sewn “petals”–individual squares of microfiber fabric in a selection of color combinations – cover the internal seat/back surface; internal cover is removable and machine-washable. Wrap-around shell outer cover is vinyl suede and is not removable.
Tokujin is a designer whose delicate, poetic, elegant designs astonish by producing surprising effects from simple objects. In October, 2007, the 130-foot north wall of Moroso’s New York showroom was completely covered with 30,000 tissues, creating a cloud-like atmosphere that reacted to shifts in light and slight breezes. Inspired by the effect, Tokujin designed Bouquet. “Bouquet makes people who sit on it happy, just as a bouquet makes the person who receives it happy. The vibrant, delicate colors trigger different sensations in each of us.”
