Some 25 years ago DJ Afrika Bambaata produced one of the most influential dance records of all times: „Planet Rock“ for New York‘s Tommy Boy label. It was to become the blueprint for all future genres of electronic dance music. From hip-hop, to house, techno or minimal, „Planet Rock“ is where it all started. The timeless appeal of the track can be found in the use of an austere beat emanating from the now legendary TR-808 Roland drum machine. Using the TR-808 as his muse, Bambaata introduced a whole new approach to creating rhythm. Not boombastic, but rather sparse instead, with a high dose of bounce and funk. Our SG Planet Rock edition is a homage to this groundbreaking record: purist, minimalist, perfect in any combination – or just downright sleek.

This edition of THE MASHUP range uses antique oriental rugs as its raw material. After the printing process, the threads are then remixed in a series of complex, hand-crafted steps – eco-friendly by not using chemical bleaches. The result is in an entirely modern style of carpet. Now, imagine exactly this kind of pass, and you can understand what it was that Danish uberbrand kvadrat – who definitely have a classic going with their Divina Mélange 2 – did for kymo creative director Eva Langhans. It‘s no exaggeration to say she jumped at the chance to turn their quality textile design into supreme floorwear! Add a subtle, yet robust felt to a heavyduty, high-tech, combined felt and knobbed surface; refine the whole thing with a nice seam; and what do you get? Yet another completely new carpet – FABRIC [FLAT] FELT. The kymo label in the bottom corner says it all: innovation and a penchant for contemporary design combined with quality and concise elegance.
