My Beautiful Backside Doshi Levien, 2008 Description Sofas with separate back cushions and loose pillows. Seat upholstery is stress-resistant polyurethane foam in varied densities and polyester fiberfill on hardwood frame; back upholstery is injected flame-retardant polyurethane foam over internal steel frame. Legs are turned solid walnut with brass-finished glides. Covers are available in fabric combinations pre-selected by the designers, and are not removable. Enamelled badges and foil-printed motifs embellish the reverse side of backs.
Doshi Levien’s approach explores the cultural hybrid, and in this range, the fusion between Indian visual culture and industrial technology to create objects of practical beauty and comfort. Inspired by an image in The Garden of Life by Naveen Patnaik, these sofas have no backs, rather a composition of floating cushions. Oversized badges and metallic foil-printed motifs embellish cushion backs. Each sofa is complete with pillows in a variety of sizes and shapes and bolster armrests, adding another touch of individuality to this very personal series.
