Way of Seeing Myself

self -portrait

To find the answer, I try to take a series of naked selfies this month. To observe the way of seeing my own body. The rule of the game is that I have to take a roll of negative every single week. Immediately, I found this question develop further through this selfies project. First of all, the position of the photographer is replaced by the camera lens in this project, which is a natural thing that doesn’t have any consciousness.

Secondly, the subject in the films, which is me, is the one who can only control how I will present an image at last. Moreover, my body keeps trying to fit in some kind of beauty unnoticed. Then I went to further research on this topic.

Finally, I discovered that the beauty of women’s bodies seems to be settled by the public for thousands of years. I decided to draw my selfportrait to demonstrate the conclusion. With lots of flowers around me, meaning my body is stuck in deep desire.

A one-month project to take selfies every day. It comes from the question
"Do I scrutinizing my body erotically? "

photography, ink, acrylic, paper, epoxy resin 2021

This small project is an advanced experiment after the project ‘’self-portrait’’. In the project ‘’self-portrait’’, I did lots of close-up selfies by diving my body into numerous pieces and attempting to assemble them towards a completed image. I surprisingly found it difficult to compose it precisely. I found it interesting that the final image looks distorted. Therefore, I experiment by assembling these images back into my body itself.

"The appearance of the world itself is the most powerful confirmation of the world as the existence of the other world. Watching the world thus continuously reminds and confirms our connection with the other world, thus nourishing our sense of existence."
"How are images combined with reality?"

After "calibration", I found the desire to recombine the fragment into a complete me. Thus, I uses photos as my skin to build a substantial me.

When I was trying to recombine the photos, I kept failing. The only thing I get was a set of photos divided and blurred.

I found that I couldn't come up with exactly the same results when I was arranging, and I saw it as a vague awareness of my own body. Because of the angle of view, every time I watch myself, I stay in a very partial part (close-up). I am unfamiliar with the overall shape and appearance, which leads to missing corners and a sense of fragmentation in the photos.

I always watch my body in separate parts. Thus, I took lots of close-up photos, as each film is a part of my skin, and reorganize it into a complete me.

destruction of the habit

The whole project started with the question I wrote in the beginning: "Do I scrutinizing my body erotically? " Go through lots of self suspect and verification, and finally, I want to achieve the natural way of seeing.

I also want to know what people think of this sculpture, which is made of naked selfies. Therefore, I choose to exhibit this sculpture at the intersection. Putting this photo sculpture in front of the public, I am curious about the viewer's opinion. Wheater anyone regards it as an object of desire.

B dreams

experimental documentary, 2022

“Dreams” is an experimental short film involved in a homeless man. This project started with a month filed investigation, in which, I interviewed eight homeless people who live in Taipei Main Station.

019

One of them is this film’s main character: dancing uncle Mr. Chen. “When the camera follows his steps, I feel like I am making a movie. There is a feeling that this scene is very interesting and I want to continue to shoot.” I wrote in my diary.

In the process of observing homeless people at Taipei Main Station, I met a homeless friend. Walking forward, the first thing he said to me was: “My job is teaching

people how to dance." I started going to the station every night to watch him dance.

Additionally, he also teach me some basic dance steps, and I began to forget that he was a homeless person. Once I went to the station to look for him, but I couldn’t find him at first, and then I found him leaning against the center of the station, looks like having some dreams.

I dreamed of a dancing dream with him, no matter who he is, the important thing is that we had a dream of dancing together.

Thinking about light and memory's connection, I decided to take my friends’ portrait, and let these pictures appear on this "sun-dried paper". Though exposure to sunlight constantly, those images might fade away at the same time.

Light and memory, both are the immaterial substances.

Immaterial Substance

This small project comes from the impulse to produce photography without non-material. After researching the development of negative and instant films, I found that light is the most important thing in taking a photo. Thus, I might never produce photography without this uncertain material.

One of the most memorable papers discussing light and memory as an immaterial substance in a philosophical way. Finally, I linked this topic to a special paper called "sun-dried". This paper is able to appear the image by blocking the negative and putting it into the sunlight.

I started doing further reacher on whether light is a material by studying lots of philosophy essays, and physiology papers.

50 people point to the same society problem. Concrete the feelings left in the body after the conversation. Knead the emotions into the oil soil through the process of clay modeling see through ourself inside the box.

Trying to discuss the relationship between power and the human body through this project.

After reading the work "Mapa de Lopo Homem" by Brazilian artist Adriana Varejao, Varejao's work uses rational and direct language to convey the pain and unhealed wounds of colonial history, which made me re-thinking the physical damage caused by culture seems to have a long period to become part of the collective consciousness.

I hope that through this participatory creative action, we can discuss what is inside the box when the body is

a container. And when this inside the "box" is a wound, the question starts. What caused the scar? What would it look like? What shape would it be?

We all know what's wrong with this society, but we couldn't look directly at or properly acknowledge the injury on our body.

The Only Race is THE HUMAN RACE

This poster wants to discuss the problem between societal issues and the environment. The concept is from a history article: "The Political Morality of Race." It metions that "there is only one race of human beings, which is the human race"

Using different faces’ skin, genders, and ages. Broken down into several parts, then put back together into a complete person. That is to say, this social environment is composed of people with different appearances.

The words on the background use words similar to

spray paint or street graffiti to make a declaration of resistance.

The destruction of the environment starts with people, so it should end with people.

The sustainability of the environment is also closely related to the most basic human rights, and human beings must work together.

As the book jacket of the portfolio, the poster only becomes my clothes wrapping me, and it is also like the outside world's first impression of me and the presentation of my appearance.

But the inner part of me, such as the pages of the portfolio, needs to be carefully explored to have a chance to truly understand.

We could have names, nicknames, and even descriptions and opinions from others in our lifetime. I listed the name people called me and attached them to myself one by one. These words become the elements of the poster, and the poster becomes my jacket wrapping me.
