Like the curved roofs of traditional Chinese architecture and carved statues in the caves of Xiangtang Mountain, Floatandan is expressing movement through its form, reflecting the constant water movement with its bronze bottom and transmits the feeling of the vibrations of the river. Strengthening the core rather than highlighting the boundry; with a deformed ring that circles around a part of the river and greenery...life. The bronze exterior pattern is a modular and parametric element inspired from reptiles’ skin, with triangulation that allows flexibility in performing tension and compression. The inner structure of the ring consists of a modular element that is inspired by the skeleton of marine vertebrates, allowing it to perform bending. The mothed resembles the tradition of Chinese modular construction in a higher complexity, close to perfection.

Project 04 | Azbakeya Market-hall
PROJECT OVERVIEW: Azbakeya Market-hall is a market that stands out in a very critical spot in downtown, since the site of the project is at the head of the 26th of July Corridor, which makes it very iconic and very challenging at the same time. The market offers a pedestrian-friendly rooftop that links between the several metro stations around the site and links the Azbakeya Park which is one of the oldest and greatest parks in Cairo that today is very neglected.

The roof of the market allows people to see and experience the market from inside through glass walls and accommodate urban food, like cafes, restaurants, ice cream shops, etc. The structure of the roof is made to be something to look at, exposed to the outside and the inside. In addition to that, the shops on the roof are also exposed to the street in a way that calls people to the doors of the market.
