The Finlayson Tower: Bicycle Storage

9 | 120
// 6- Weeks Project, 2013 // Site: Finlayson Green, Singapore // The Finlayson Tower was conceived as part of a studio masterplan. The primary function of the structure is a multi-tiered bicycle park. The structure connects to the proposed elevated bicycle track in the Masterplan. It also interjects the UPN (Underground Pedestrian Network) from raffles place MRT to Marina Bay Link, as a result, giving a much kinder public space for commuters to pause along the UPN, which is highly crowded and fast-paced during the morning peak hours. The tower also hosts a bicycle themed cafe, double-storey pub and an viewing deck. The Finlayson Tower envisions itself as a beacon at night in the CBD, with close proximity to Marina Bay Sands and night activities that will liven up the CBD in the evenings. //Archicad 16, Artlantis Studio, Autocad 2013, Adobe Photoshop CS6, Adobe Illustrator CS6

25 | 120
// 12 Weeks Project, 2012 // Site: Glasgow Green, Glasgow, Scotland The project is sited on Glasgow Green, located at the river bend of River Clyde. The project converts a boathouse into a hospice with an added extension to the existing building. The Comma on Glasgow Green seeks to provide a respite and reconnects the other part of Glasgow Green that is separated by a road. The new extension to the boathouse resolves the change in level by a ramp that also serves as a gathering place, or a place for slow walk. The new extension boldly exhibits a facade of the boathouse and it also serves as a public cafeteria / library for visitors to the Hospice. Clinical and staffing functions lined the new extension, while the old boathouse building hosts the resident’s bedrooms and nursing stations. // Autocad 2013, Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop CS6, Adobe Illustrator CS6

SPUN: View into the Internal Street; A conversation between the HDB and Nursing Home 43 | 120
// 12 Weeks Project, 2012 // Site: Sago Lane, Chinatown, Singapore Inspired by the idea of street life present in the conserved historical core of Chinatown, the design is a conversation between the home and the modern experimental HDB flat of the 70s. The design seeks to fill up the void on site that has been left over time, taking the form of an internal street space, which can be seen as a continuity of the streets from the olden days. It is a reaction to the site, which is an important land yet it does not perform to its full potential. Proposing a broad master planning of the compound and the HDB flats, the project aims to bridge segregated activities, reshuffling leftover spaces and to provide for a dignified repose for the elderly in the area and in the nursing home. By 2030, Singapore will experience a silver tsunami. A nursing home for the future should expect a change in user profile and expectations for living. Residents of the home are more educated and are consumers of the globalized world. The constructed spatial narrative seeks to explore the idea of a dignified retirement for the aged in 2030 starting from micro-environments in the home, to address issues of privacy, mobility and resident’s needs. Using the idea of threading places and people, a system of rooms and communal spaces is designed for the home. With the historical core of Chinatown along one axis to the nursing home and overlooking the Singapore skyline in the other, the home design seeks to streamline the differences between historical and the modern to emerge characteristically unique for Singapore and her future. // Autocad 2013, Rhino 3D, Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator CS6
