There are a lot of moving parts involved when it comes to running a zoo – including the animals themselves! Animal transport happens daily, from Vet Clinic visits to our ambassador animals traveling for outreach, to more complicated transcontinental imports (like when “Ongard” the Asian elephant came all the way from Australia!).

Zoo Miami has the distinction of being the annual host of the “Animal Transport Course for Animal Care Professionals” under the auspices of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). This training course is a community of industry professionals, guest speakers, course instructors, and wildlife agencies volunteering their time to provide their expertise. All of these professionals come together to discuss logistics on how to safely transport wildlife!
