Overview of Rowing at Rangi Ruru
Rangi Ruru is one of the most successful girls’ schools in New Zealand for sport For us at Rangi rowing, success is not measured simply by results and medals- these are viewed as a bonus by-product of a well-rounded, programme that focused on connection and character building
Typically, Rangi Ruru has a strong rowing squad of 64 girls across all year levels Your daughter will be exposed to a sisterhood that connects year groups across the school, lasting longer than her time in the rowing programme Rowing promotes the importance of teamwork which is about recognising that every member of the team has a role to play It is this concept of shared purpose that tightens the bond and connection between each girl
Rowing is a summer sport and takes place in terms four and one Girls in Year 9 begin in term four Girls in Years 10-13 will row in both term one and four and we always begin at the conclusion of winter sport
The rowing squad participates in a number of weekend regattas in terms four and one These regattas build up to the New Zealand National Secondary Schools Rowing Championships Not all rowers will necessarily attend NZNSS Rowing Regatta Rowing is a sport that requires a high level of commitment in time, training and fitness. Rowers can train up to eight times a week at times between October and March
With over a combined 120 years of rowing experience, the Rangi Ruru coaching and management team care about your daughters We recognise, understand and cherish that she is an individual. To accommodate this, our coaches are first, relationship builders who get to know who your daughter is and how she interprets information and sees the world This personalised approach underpins what we do, and we believe that through this style, we will enable your daughter to be the very best that she can be and flourish in this team environment.
