Dear sailors,
Dobro došli na Cres Sailing Week! Često me pitaju po čemu je ova regata drukčija od drugih. Više je odgovora na to pitanje. Počevši od Cresa, otoka, grada, marine koji nas uvijek privlače svojom iskonskom ljepotom, netaknutom prirodom i prirodnim olakšanjem od svakog stresa. Kada jedno mjesto ugosti 1 Svjetsko prvenstvo, 2 Europska prvenstva, 1 Meditransko prvenstvo, 3 Srednjeeuropska prvenstva onda se uvjeti za jedrenje mogu opisati jednom rječju – idealni. U zadnje vrijeme kod nas je sve više regata ili manifestacija na kojima vrijedi pravilo „Važno je sudjelovati“, dok je u Cresu ipak važnije pobijediti. Regata ovdje počinje puno prije nego se izađe na more. Priprema jedrilica, posada, borba s centimetrima i sekundama, mjerenja, vaganja dio su igre, koja kulminira na moru gdje je svaka manovra važna, gdje nakon sedam „štap“ jedrenja i duge navigacije sekunda ili dvije mogu odlučiti o naslovu prvaka. Ipak, možda i najvažnija razlika regata u Cresu od ostalih regata je atmosfera koja ovdje vlada. Tjedan dana Cres postaje jedriličarsko središte Jadrana, a nakon uzbudljivih nadmetanja na moru po povratku u marinu, svi će jedriličari skupa popiti pivo, bez obzira s kojeg broda ili koje država dolaze. To je oduvijek bilo ono po čemu su jedriličari poznaju. Bez obzira koliko bili različiti, ljubav prema moru, jedrima i brodovima svima je jednaka jer ploviti se mora.
Welcome to the Cres Sailing Week! They often ask me why this regatta is different from others. There are more answers to that question. Beginning with town of Cres, island, marina that always attracts us with its original beauty, untouched nature, and natural relaxation from any stress. When one place hosts a World championship, 2 European championships, Mediterranean championship, 3 MiddleEuropean championships conditions can only be described with one word – ideal. Lately, there’s many more regattas in Croatia, which operate by the motto that ‘it’s important to participate’, while on Cres priority still remains to win. Preparation of sailboats, crew, fight with centimeters and seconds, measurements, weighing are all parts of the game that culminates on sea where every maneuver is important and where after seven leeward/windward races and long navigation sail second or two may decide winner. Nevertheless, perhaps the biggest different between regatta on Cres and others is the atmosphere which is always present here. For a week Cres becomes sailing hub of Adriatic, and after exciting competitions on sea, after arriving in marina, all sailors can still drink beers together, regardless of what boat or state they come from. That’s always what distinguished sailors by. No matter how different, love towards water, sails, and boats is always present in everyone because to sail is a must.
Ove godine ugošćujemo ORC Otvoreno Prvenstvo Hrvatske, ali vjerujem da svi već pomalo gledamo unaprijed prema ORC Svjetskom prvenstvu 2011. Zato će ovogodišnja regata ujedno biti i generalna proba za Svjetsko prvenstvo. Time se u Cres nakon tri godine ponovno vraća navigacijsko jedrenje, ali ovoga puta s novim kursom prema lošinjskom arhipelagu kako bi se osigurali što bolji vremenski uvjeti za 24-satnu navigaciju od oko 115 NM. Bit će to Vam to idealna prilika upoznati se s uvjetima koji se mogu očekivati na ORC Svjetskom prvenstvu 2011.

Na kraju, moram se zahvaliti svima koji su omogućili da se ova regata održi u ovakvom izdanju. Prije svega Hrvatskom jedriličarskom savezu koji nam je ukazao povjerenje organizacije Otvorenog prvenstva Hrvatske, te Offshore Racing Congressu za povjerenje u organizaciji ORC Svjestkog prvenstva 2011. Regate ne bi bilo bez Primorsko-goranske Županije, Grada Cresa, Turističke Zajednice Grada Cresa i Lučke Uprave Cres, pokrovitelja koji su nama od samih početaka na čemu im još jednom zahvaljujem, a posebno Gradonačelniku Cresa, g. Kristijanu Jurjaku kojega bi svi koji sudjelujemo u organizaciji regate ipak radije vidjeli opet kao člana regatnog odbora, ali vjerujemo da mu upravo to iskustvo bar malo pomaže u vođenju Grada. Veliko hvala svim našim sponzorima počevši od ACI-ja, Cresanke, Turbo Sporta, North Sailsa, Ventexa, Restauranta Marina pa do američkog Weather Routinga, a posebno hvala Regatnom odboru, Međunarodnom žiriju, Odboru premjerača i svima u uredu regate. Svi zajedno smo već kao jedna velika obitelj i upravo u tome je razlog uspjeha organizaciji regata u Cresu. This year we host ORC Open Croatian championship, but we all look a little bit towards 2011. when we will host the ORC World championship. Hence, this year’s regatta will be a general test for the world’s championships. With it, Cres returns back to the navigational sailing, but this time with the new course towards Losinj archipelago, so that better weather conditions can be secured for 24-hour navigation that has around 115 nautical miles. It will be an ideal opportunity to experience conditions that could be expected for ORC World championships 2011. In conclusion, I must thank all of those who made regatta possible in this edition. First thank you goes to the Croatian Sailing Federation, which has entrusted us with the organization of the Open Croatian championship, and Offshore Racing Congress for enabling us to organize next year’s World championship. This regatta wouldn’t happen without Primorsko-Goranska county, City of Cres, Tourist bureau of Cres and Port Authority Cres, our patrons who ware with us from the beginning, and especially to the mayor of Cres, Mr. Kristijan Jurjako who we would still prefer to see as the member of the regatta’s committee, but believe that is precisely his past experience that helps him in leading the city forward. Big thank you to all of our sponsors beginning with ACI, Cresanka, Turbo Sport, North Sails, Ventex, Marina Restaurant to American Weather Routing, and especially to regatta’s committee, international jury, measurers’ committee, and all of those involved in regatta’s office.
