System is the key Skarpenord’s valve remote control systems are designed and optimized separately for both segments: marine and offshore. The valve remote control system contains as a minimum of Hydraulic Power Unit, one Solenoid Valve Cabinet with various numbers of control circuits, and a number of actuator sizes and models.

FACTS The Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) generates and delivers pressurized hydraulic oil to the Solenoid Valve Cabinet (SVC), which through solenoid valves distributes hydraulic pressure to valve mounted actuators, which opens and closes the valves. The solenoids are usually controlled from a superior system, but can be controlled from a Skarpenord control unit as well. The standard connection between valve and actuator is based on the ISO 5211 standard for top flange. The actuators can be single acting with spring return or double acting with- or without mechanical locking of valve end position.

Hydraulic Actuators The hydraulic actuators are driven by pressured hydraulic oil and controls opening and closing of ball- or butterfly valves installed in the pipe system of the vessel or rig. The Skarpenord hydraulic actuators are produced as single- or double acting type and can operate all ball- and butterfly valves. The design simplifies maintenance and installation, which gives the customer a cost-effective product. Quarter turn actuators can be delivered with either adjustable stroke or fixed 90-degree rotation with mechanical locking*. Actuators are made in Scotch-yoke design, piston type. Standard connection flange according to the ISO 5211. The material is nodular cast iron and carbon steel.
FACTS
*MECHANICAL LOCKING Skarpenord has delivered actuators with mechanical locking as standard on butterfly valves. RA models are equipped with a mechanical locking system in the end position of the stroke (open and close state). The mechanism is integrated in the actuator and totally independent of hydraulic oil pressure. If there is loss of hydraulic pressure, or even a fire, the valve will be kept safe in last position (open/close).
EASY MAINTENANCE The mechanical locking gives the feature of easy maintenance as well. The only regular maintenance we recommend on Skarpenord actuators, is changing of the seal kit. Because of the mechanical locking, the sealing can be replaced without any dismantling at actuator and valve. The actuator can remain attached to the valve and the valve does not have to be disconnected from the pipeline. The maintenance can be performed with the valve safely locked in fully closed or open position. Full flow can be maintained in the pipeline during maintenance.
EAL™ HYDRAULIC OIL Our Valve Remote Control (VRC) is also suited for use with various EAL™ hydraulic oil and can be used upon customers preference. This is premium quality, high performance hydraulic oils developed to meet the demand for environmentally acceptable hydraulic fluids. Contact Skarpenord for compatibility check.

Solenoid Valve Cabinets The Solenoid Valve Cabinet (SVC) contains solenoid operated directional valves for distribution of high pressure oil to the actuators. Valve position can be measured indirectly and communicated to the Skarpenord computerized valve control system, or superior system.

Computerized Valve Control The Skarpenord Computerized Valve Control is a centralized system for control/monitoring of valves and Hydraulic Power Unit. The valve remote control functions are carried out via customized mimics on the screen. The operation is conducted on a touch screen or by track ball/keyboard. The solution minimizes the need for cabling between the different units. The Control Station (PC), Logic Controller (PLC) and Operator Panel in the SVC are interconnected by a bus cable. This will simplify the installation work. All control components are produced by renowned companies with worldwide technical support.
