To maximize performance is to accomplish objectives in the most effective manner while minimising the use of energy and materials resources. This is not necessarilyy to sayy that design g objectives j should be compromised p in order to save natural resources, but it does suggest that design objectives should be performance orientated. Martin Smith Smith's s mechanical sculpture has developed from a fascination of rhythm, seriality and motion. Mechanisms are exposed in order to deny any secrecy; it is reassuring and immensely satisfying to observe the hypnotic motion of the cams and levers. Working from his studio in the North of England, UK. Martin has been developing and producing his intriguing sculptures since 1993. His work has been welcomed into art galleries, public spaces, corporate corridors and people people's s homes.
