For Application to Architectural Design MArch
The portfolio mainly revolves around the spirituality of architecture. In today’s world, people’s demand for architecture is increasing, and people’s demand for architecture is more about its functionality and experience of use. But I think architecture is not just an expression of space or form, but can be used as a medium that guides people’s spiritual thoughts. While creating atmosphere and feelings, architectural space can also influence people’s spirits and thoughts. I don't want people and architecture to be only the relationship between use and being used, but that people can be influenced by the architectural space and get a spiritual experience, and even make people think about things outside the building. In the portfolio, I rethink the relationship between architecture and people, cities, nature, and society to reflect the spirituality of architecture in different environments, allowing people to think about and re-examine the city, nature, and society under the influence of architectural space. Architecture should be a means to study and solve social problems. Architectural design often starts with a social problem or contradiction, and finally uses architecture to solve this contradiction. I want to explore the spirituality of architecture, and influence people’s feelings through the creation of architectural space, so that people can have a unique emotion in my architecture due to changes in light and shadow, order of space, etc. So that I can create an atmosphere to influence and solve some contradictions and problems in society.

The Heritage Of Less Inheritance Old City Reconstruction Type: Individual Academic Work / Architectural Design Location: Xicheng, Beijng, China Duration:04/2015-06/2015 Tutor: Lu Fan The site is located in Baita Temple, Beijing, which was once the symbol of the capital of Yuan dynasty. It is now also the landmark building within the second ring. The Baita temple district formed around the white tower is one of the important historical blocks in the center of Beijing, which has relatively well preserved the original texture, style and pattern of Hutong. At the same time, there are a large number of dangerous old bungalows in the Baita Temple district. It has high population density, lacks municipal facilities and continuously worse regional landscape. The municipal environment of Hutong needs to be improved urgently. The design aims to create a new cultural block integrating traditional, innovative and fashion features to optimize and activate the current situation through adding new elements such as design, creation and exhibition while remaining the original texture of Hutong and the original residential functional attributes of the old Beijing traditional quadrangle residential area.

Time Line With the transformation of era and time, the role of Baita Temple is also constantly changing. Due to the change of religious concepts and social circumstances, the Baita Temple has experienced the process of prosperity, decline, revival and desolation. It has gradually disappeared in the secular life. More and more strong living atmosphere also slowly swallows the status and significance of the Baita Temple. Be Renamed (1457)

Problem
At present, the Baita temple district has been surrounded and eroded by private houses and quadrangles. At the same time, the living environment of the residents is also very narrow. The lack of public space and the neglect of the Baita Temple are the biggest problems in this area at current.

Tour space is the main space type of this design. According to the features of the tour, two categories of space are summarized; box space and route space. The box space provides a place for people to stop and appreciate the Baita Temple. And the route space plans the roads for people to visit the Baita Temple. Different box space has different interests to increase the possibility and participation degree of people stating. The route space has different orientations and selectivity. People can choose different routes to obtain the different visiting feelings. 05

Spatial Sequence Analysis The spatial sequence of the key designed routes refers to the ancient monk’s routes and experiences of worshiping the gods. Seven major procedures have been selected. The concept of space is extracted from the experience of monks, which makes people feel the experience of pilgrimage in architectural space, thus to increase the spiritual significance of Baita Temple, and achieve the purpose of influencing people’s spiritual feelings with architectural space.

Accept Negative Space City Library Type: Individual Academic Work / Architectural Design Location: Shenzhen, Guangdong, China Duration:02/2016-03/2016 Tutor: Wang Lingzhe The project is located in Nantuo ancient city. The “villages” in the city covered by Shenzhen Nantou ancient city and many historical protection buildings are in this community. In this place, people can see that the buildings of many periods and multiple styles are located in the same block. Library, from the beginning of the existence of human civilization, has been an important stronghold of knowledge dissemination and storage. The “villages” in the city, exist in the development stage of a specific historical region and serves Shenzhen such kind of a modern city in its unique way, which can be seen as a haven for young people. However, it is not parasitic on the urban organism, but constantly gives the city fresh blood. The city gives it support and thus to achieve symbiosis. In such a special venue, how the library should be recognized and accepted and what role it plays are the problems that this project should discuss and think about.

Historical Building
The rapid transformation of Shenzhen from rural ti urban area has made the “villages” in the city a main leftover problem. Due to the increase of the local villagers and their longing for urban life, they have conducted massive construction and expansion based on the original village buildings. In order to obtain much more usage space, a lot of narrow construction gap space has been formed, which leads to the compression of public space and formation of many negative space. The site of this project is located in such kind of negative space.

Meanwhile, located in the ancient twon, the library also can play the role of inheriting its culture. The site is lack in public space and many left-behind children and the elderly lack activity space. The public library can provide them with more public places. 15
History Of Site
The existing spatial form formed by historical reasons is very tedious and disgusting, but if we extracted this negative space prototype, repeated and recombined it, we would get a new complex but interesting positive space.

The design of twostory facade increases the richness and hierarchy of the building and also undertakes the transition between the closed space and open space. 16

Exterior facade: It adopts a wooden perforated board structure, defines the overall boundary of the building, increases its integrity and uniformity, and at the same time makes it more natural and approachable.
Interior facade: It defines the space boundary and provides basic enclosure.
Structure: Frame structure is adopted. The beams and columns consist of steel I-beams covered with concrete, contributing to a lighter and eye-catching structure.
Floor slab: There are four layers, and it can be more flexible and wellproportioned combined with the structure.

The boxes are connected by a staircase, which not only increases the connection between the two spaces, but also forms a sense of patchiness in height, enriching the spatial form and making the public space more interesting.

General Layout There are many types of buildings around the project site, including historical buildings, protected heritage buildings, and modern buildings built in the 1980s, etc. The most of them are protected heritage buildings. And the original site of the project is the county government building of the ancient town. Therefore, the cultural attributes and status of the project are relatively high. Meanwhile, the project site is located at the intersection of the two roads in a densely populated area. The main entrance of the project is facing the intersection, which is easier to attract visitors. The building boundary of the project is as close as possible to the surrounding existing buildings to avoid beinWg too abrupt, and it can better integrate with the surrounding environment in this way. Public Space On The 3rd Floor
Public Space On The 1st Floor
The two public spaces on different floors represent two different spatial emotions. The public space on the first floor is under the scattered boxes, which looks a little narrow and depressing, and a little negative, but when you look up, you can see the dislocation and intersecting floors. There will be a kind of visual interest; because the public space on the third floor is located at a higher position and the upper floor is not blocked, it appears more open and bright, which is a relatively positive space.
Double Facade When the sun shines through the wooden grid of the facade to scatter spots of light inside the building, the inside of the building can be vaguely seen from the outside, which arouses an ambiguous feeling of space. It brings people visual pleasure as well as sense of security. Meanwhile, it not only shows the dynamics of the interior space, but also connects the inside and the outside together. Children can chase and play on the stairs, which invigorates the building. 21

Street View Perspective Narrow space does not always give people negative feelings, but also have certain positive meanings. As long as they are properly employed, repeated, and integrated, many interesting spaces can be created. So if we thought about and looked at some negative spaces or things from a different perspective, we might get a different experience.

Redefining Fireplace Natrual Art Museum Type: Individual Academic Work / Architectural Design Location: Nemrut, Turkey Duration:06/2017-08/2017 Tutor: Chang Jia According to their attributes, things can be simply classified as: Manmade, Natural and Man. Architecture has to undergo human selection of natural materials, reprocessing and creation, so architecture is inevitably defined as Manmade. Modernist architecture developed rapidly in the 20th centur y, which although promoted the development of urbanization, its simplicity strongly rejected tradition, nationality, regionality, and most importantly naturalness. At present, urbanization and nature are almost in opposition to each other. Is there a way for architecture to respect nature, serve nature instead of humans, and be something between Manmade and Natural? This is the question that our design will focus on. Land art, also known as earth art or environmental art, is an artistic activity that has emerged since the 1960s and 1970s. Its biggest feature is also the focus of our design: land art expands the definitions and boundaries of art and nature through the materials used and the sites of the works. Combining two books, Rem Koolhaas: Elements and Robert Smithson, The Collected Writings, this design aims to combine the ideas in them, extend the reflections on architecture and nature, and redefine architecture in the form of art exhibition.
24
Entropy And New Monument The concept comes from Robert Smithson: The Collected Writings edited by Jack Flam. In this article, Smithson talked about his understanding of the concept of entropy. I felt that his question about energy fits in with this project. Volcanoes, or energy in nature, can be converted into concepts in architectural spatial design, and can also be a basis for analysis of the project site.

Fireplace
The concept comes from Elements by Rem Koolhaas. Koolhaas elaborated the elements of architecture throughout the book. Fireplace is a unique existence in architecture, which used to be one of the four elements of architecture, but now it seems less important but indispensable. The site is in a volcanic area. Volcanos are also the fireplaces in nature. Therefore, I extracted the characteristics of the fireplace from the book, applied them to the architectural design and then redefined the fireplace.

Make The Unseen To Be Seen Cider Workshop Type: Individual Academic Work / Architectural Design Location: Liverpool, England, UK Duration:03/2018-05/2018 Tutor: Wang lingzhe Food is indispensable for daily life and also represents the local customs, lifestyles and values that have been passed down in a certain area. For example, the increasingly important certification of the original of a food is like to use food to maintain and narrate the local pride and traditions. Nowadays, the consumption mode is gradually gentrified. We get well-packaged and carefully processed products from the shelves but can neither see nor need to see the production processes of the finished products. The relationship between food and locals is nothing different from that for distant consumers. The only unique part is the name that exists in cultural concepts and memories. What if the production process of a food is not invisible, and is even related to life? When we are involved in the production process full of regional colors, will our feelings for food be different? Seizing the opportunity of the local cider production, this project chooses to build a production / public activity / education / experience complex within the site in Liverpool, England, for people to participate in the production process and interact with the surrounding natural environment.
34
Background
Cider
Local Peopl Apple Grower Worker Salesman
The project is located in Liverpool, England, UK. Cider is a household name in England and has become a well-known local specialty. Because the production process is simple, more and more people can experience the production process. The concrete position of the site is in Severton Park, which is an open park with flat lawns where people can relax freely.
It is a traditional local drink, simple to make and tastes good, which is very popular among people.

The chopper space adopts a single streamline design, because the process is kind of dangerous. This can reduce the flow of people.
The space of the squeezer is more open, because this is the key step of making cider and a link with the most participants.
The space for storing cider will be relatively enclosed, because cider storage requires a specific indoor environment. 36

The wooden support makes the structure look very bulky, but appropriate storey height and building scale can reduce this feeling. The design of the double-layer roof structure creates people a space to sit and rest, and also brings a skylight for the indoor space.
