ZSOFIA HELMECZI ARCHITECTURAL PORTFOLIO

HELLO My name is Zsofia, I love to ask questions and solve complex puzzles. I would love to be part of your team and get to know you better. I’m a cheerful Hungarian and excited about starting my career as a junior architect. I have recently moved to Copenhagen because I enrolled in the Architectural Engineering master program at the Technical University of Denmark, DTU. During my bachelor studies I really enjoyed the topics and projects that were on the borderline between engineering and management. I am truly fascinated by the operations of complex projects of many sorts and unique solutions. I am very excited about the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to your company by demonstrating my skills and starting to build a bridge between academic theory and the practice of the industry. 02 For you this means.... You’ll get a curious and dedicated junior co-worker who is committed to learning fast and contributing both professionally and personally. You’ll get a colleague who has an international mindset benefitting from working previously with colleagues from various cultures at IBM and Hays. You’ll get a team member who is enthusiastic about solving humancentered design challenges - I believe in winning through fast learning cycles, experimentation and planning ahead.

Finally, I have attached my project examples, CV and a list of the courses I have attended at BME. Please enjoy.

”She demonstrated the ability to manage multiple tasks and accomplish goals efficiently and according to schedule - her work performance was consistently strong.” - Balázs Csapó, HR Manager, IBM Hungary ISSC

RETHINKING PUBLIC SPACES AND FUNCTIONS FOR A GROWING CITY

06

when

Spring 2015

where

Biatorbágy, Hungary - an agglomeration town near Budapest

my role

Concept, Feasability, Desing, Graphics

task

To define public spaces for a newly administered city with increasing demand for public services

result

During the first steps I have analysed the urban needs and missing functions in the developing town, and pinpointed possible site locations for these. I have created urban development plans for a more suitable land allocation for the public spaces and private areas. Besides the actual floor plans for the dentistry, I have prepared a feasibility study for the whole project with time and investment analysis.

my role

Concept, Design, Modeling

task

The shabbiness and abandonedness of Városliget is partly the result of its not intensive space usage. This condition is especially apparent at the south-eastern side of the park. Can this shortage of programme be resolved with integrating the surrounding tissue or strengthening the edges of the open space should lead to a stronger park identity? Should we dissolve the city park in the surrounding green courtyards or in the large scale developments of Istvánmező?

result

Playing with urban space and functional intensification.

18

when

Spring 2012

where

Budakalász, Hungary

my role

Concept, Design, Plans, Model

task

To plan small community building for bicyclists in a small Hungarian town

result

The building provides a place partly for resting and meeting for cyclist passing through, and partly for local club events. The cyclist arriving here are welcomed to a spacious indoor clubhouse, but they can also gather and use the outdoor meeting area. There is an important transition between the indoor and the outside areas, the meeting place flows under the main building as a semiclosed area. The main building also provides space for small office belonging to the club, and a repair shop. There are toilets (wc, shower) and buffet for cyclist passing by.

22

when

Spring 2010

where

Piliscsaba, Hungary

my role

Concept, Design, Graphics

task

The project of a small family-house with proportions and general structure, which are based on the local character, but offers an up-to date arrangement fulďŹ lling the needs of an average family composed of two adults and two schoolchildren

result

I aligned the form of the house with special angle of the plot. This angle gave an interesting starting point for a ribbon that contours the building. The house is placed in the northern side of the plot, with big windows opening to the garden.

Spring 2013 Rákosrendező, Zugló, Hungary András Milánkovich Concept, Desing, Graphics urban revitalization of the brown zone • temporary solution that can be easily implemented and developed for future needs • a living connection between Zugló and Angyalföld • new functions for the unused areas and buildings • cheerful atmosphere to attract people and small start-up businesses to the area

25

Nagy Lajos Király útja is one of the main axis of Zugló. However when it reaches the M3 highway, it suddenly stops. Teleki Blanka Street is considered as its continuation but the accessibility is not solved and we cannot go on properly toward Angyalföld. We decided to follow the plans of the Municipality regarding the future extensions of metro line 1 and tram line 3. After consideration we built a flyover to connect the two sides of M3 highway. We designed this flyover as a green belt to compensate the load of future traffic between the two districts.

26

During our analysis of Rákosrendező, we found old railway buildings that are unused and standing empty after the decline of the freight traffic. These buldings are abandoned and begin to bear the signs of dilapidation. After considering the services that are needed to our project, we decided to move these into the unused buildings.

07 SOMETHING ELSE KNITTING - THE ULTIMATE HOBBY

I started knitting in 2011, because I saw an intriguing pattern on the way home - and immediately wanted to decode it. Since then I learnt a lot of different techniques and used up several thousand kilometers of yarn. This is completely self-taught.
