Srinagar, Feb 20: The cross LoC trade once again failed to resume on Thursday as the drivers in the Pakistan administered Kashmir (Pak) reiterated their demand for the release of the detained driver. Officials told GNS the PaK traders and drivers refused to resume the trade unless their driver arrested on charges of smuggling narcotics into Valley is not released. "On 18 Feb we decided to resume trade on Feb 20. However, unfortunately the trade remained suspended today after the PaK Trade Facilitation Officer, Basharat Ahmad called me last evening saying that their traders and drivers are not ready yet, Custodian Showkat Ahmad told GNS. Jammu, Feb 20: Maintaining that speedy justice is fundamental right of every citizen, Minister for Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs, Mir Saifullah has said that the Government has taken several initiatives in this direction to provide justice to the people at their doorstep by strengthening the network of courts across the State. Listing the measures initiated to reduce the pendency of cases in the High Court and Subordinate Courts, the Minister said that Government has appointed five High Court Judges during the last year and four more vacancies of Judges are likely to be filled up soon. Seven District and sessions Judges and 38 Munsiffs were also appointed last year by the Government. As many as 12 vacancies of Munsiffs have been referred to the PSC to further strengthen the Courts. Besides 36 Courts including (14 Sub-Judges and 22 Munsiff) and 2 Courts of Additional District and Sessions Judges have been established in different areas of the State. The Minister was replying to the discussions on Demands of Grants for the Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs in the Legislative Assembly today. Maintaining that

Pulwama, Feb 21: The people of Malanpora have expressed deep anguish over the dilapidated condition of Malanpora to Koil road. Locals allege that administration is playing an indifferent role to reappear this road. Pertinently this road provides a link to Malanpora Railway station. 40 militants killed in Pak air strikes
Islamabad:In Pakistan, 40 militants have been killed in air strikes in the northwest tribal areas. A Peshwar based report says that fighter jets pounded militant hideouts in the lawless Mir Ali area of North Waziristan Agency, killing the militants including many foreigners.Air strikes were also carried out in Khyber Agency.A factory,making explosives and IEDs was reportedly destroyed in the area. The strikes come soon after the government suspended talks with the Taliban after militants executed 23 Pakistani
soldiers.The air strikes were sanctioned by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif himself.PTI quoting sources says that a fullfledged military operation,has however not been launched. Ahead of the strikes, the military in a rare move, gave out figures on casualties caused by the Taliban. It said 308 civilians, 114 military, 38 police,were killed and 1,264 injured due to terrorist acts throughout the country since September last year . SC stays release of 3 convicts in Rajiv assassination case
New Delhi, February 20: The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the release of three convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case by the Tamil Nadu government, saying there have been procedural lapses on the part of the state. A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam directed the state government to maintain status quo regarding three prisoners whose death sentence was commut-
ed to life term by it and said the Centre can file a fresh petition regarding the other four prisoners whose sentence has also been remitted. It said that all procedural checks laid down in the law have not been followed by the state government and it will examine the issue raised by the Centre. Making it clear that it is not taking away the power of the government to remit sentence, the bench, at the
same time, said the states have to follow the procedure. "We are concerned about the procedural lapses and we will examine the issue," the bench said, adding that "all states are bound to follow the procedure". The rapid testing of food samples for microbiological contamination will reduce the morbidity and mortality in the society. Use of the kits by the food industry will not only help domestic consumers in having safe food but also helps reducing export rejections on account of microbiological contamination. The second kit launched by the Health Minister estimates the quantity of ferritin and helps in diagnosing iron deficiency anaemia individually as well as for mass level screening. Azad said that this test will be useful to decide supplementation of iron according to the need and also to avoid iron dosing in conditions where iron accumulates in the body; for instance due to repeated blood transfusions in cases of Thalassemia, Haemophilia and others. He said that the present estimates of anaemia due to iron deficiency in different groups vary widely from 5% to 50%. Besides this variation, there are large numbers of adolescent boys and girls who are anaemic. As per National Family Health Survey, 56% of girls and 30% of boys in 10-19 years are anaemic, the Minister noted. In India anaemia control strategies are based on haemoglobin levels. However, estimation of serum ferritin has been found to be the specific diagnostic tool for early detection of iron deficiency leading to anaemia. Therefore a ferritin test helps to diagnose with certainty and the extent of iron deficiency in the body thus avoiding unnecessary iron supplementation. It is based on ELISA principle and is specific, very accurate, cost effective and convenient method comparable to other commercially available kits. This technology is useful for treating physicians, policy makers, Programme Managers at Central, State and District level for formulation of appropriate intervention strategies and for monitoring the effect on these interventions. Ghulam Nabi Azad launched the third kit for diagnosing Vitamin-A deficiency. The dried blood spot collection system for Plasma Vitamin-A estimation is a simple system that allows the blood to be collected on a special type of filter paper which can be stored for 7 days at room temperature and for several days at refrigerated temperature. It will be valuable for mass screening for deciding on Vitamin-A supplementation as and when required. It is a field friendly method for blood sample collection and transportation from remote areas to screen population for sub-clinical vitamin A deficiency. This system will reduce the inconvenience to children, cost of blood collection, storage and transportation associated with conventional vein puncture method of blood collection. Azad said that Government already implemented programmes for overcoming problems of anaemia and vitamin- A deficiency. There is a renewed weekly iron and folic acid supplementation (WIFS) programme launched by the Health Ministry in January, 2013, to give iron supplementation to 13 crore young girls and boys to overcome the problem of anaemia. Also a national prophylaxis programme to prevent and control night blindness due to Vitamin A deficiency was first started in 1970, under which children aged 1 to 5 years are administered vitamin A at six monthly intervals. Currently, 30 million children in the country are receiving vitamin A supplementation under this programme, which is linked with DPT and oral polio under universal immunization to increase the coverage, he noted. The launching of new kits will help better implementation of the national programmes going on in these directions. Speaking about the recent developments the Minister emphasised that last five years have been very productive. He highlighted some of the achievements in the area of health research like Asia’s first BSL IV Lab was established at NIV Pune; 22 Infectious Diseases Labs of BSL II and III levels have been set up and a total of 160 have been approved to be established by 2016-2017; 45 H1N1 labs have been set up within a year. He also stated that various diagnostic techniques have been launched in the last few months including the JE vaccine, Magnivisualiser for detecting cervical cancer, the thalassemia kit and strips for diabetes. The Health Minister congratulated the scientists of National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad for developing these useful kits. He expressed happiness that during the last five months he has launched 7 new technologies from ICMR Institutions. In order to ensure speedy justice to the people in rural and farflung areas, the Minister said that Government will establish 22 DehiAdalats at the block level across the State under Ist phase. The J&K DehiAdalat Act, 2013 has been passed by the State Legislature which provides setting up of these Adalats in the State. The State High Court has been asked to identify such blocks where these courts will be established, said the Minister. To clear the pendency of cases in various courts, the Government will establish 8 Fast Track Courts of the rank of District
Zabarwan Times and Sessions Judges and ten Fast Track Courts of the rank of Civil Judges with an involvement of Rs. 777.03 lakhs. The proposal in this regard has been referred to the Finance Department for its concurrence. The Government has already designated some courts as Fast Track Courts, these include, Anantnag, Baramulla, Jammu, Kulgam, Kupwara, Pulwama, Rajouri and Srinagar. Besides, the Government is also going to implement the new State Litigation Policy for ensuring speedy disposal of cases. The performance of Government Lawyers and Public Prosecutors will also be monitored to ensure efficiency in their functioning, said the Minister. With a view to further strengthen the legal system in the state, the Government will create some more positions of Additional Advocate Generals and Government Advocates for each wing of the High Court. This has become inevitable with the present strength of the High Court. The State has also appointed 13 Law Officers for Srinagar Wing and 10 for Jammu Wing of High Court. Similarly, 40 Public Prosecutors/Additional Public Prosecutors have been appointed for Subordinate Courts across the State. The strength of Standing Counsels has also been increased upto 800, said the Minister. In order to settle the chronic cases, 485 Lok Adalats were organized by the State Legal Services Authority during 2013-14. As many as 62808 cases of different natures were settled and Rs. 30.34 crore was disbursed among the victims of their kin in the Lok Adalats. The National Lok Adalats were also held at District and Tehsil levels throughout the State on 24thNovember, 2013 wherein 57107 cases were settled in one go. Besides, 977 persons belonging to economically weaker sections of the society also availed the free legal aid during the current year and an amount of Rs. 32.83 lakh was paid to the Retainer Lawyers appointed under Free and Competent Legal Services Scheme, said the Minister. Saying that awareness about the legal services for the common man is an important part, the Minister said that 320 legal literacy and awareness camps were organized at different parts of the State during the current fiscal. During these camps, the people were made aware of their rights under various laws, schemes, availability of various legal services, especially for the SCs/STs, women, children, and mentally ill and disabled persons. These camps were organized by District Legal Services Authorities headed by District Judges/Tehsil Legal Services Committees headed by Chief Judicial Magistrates in their respective jurisdictions, he maintained. Referring to the measures proposed for the legislators, the Minister said that Government is considering enhancing the Car Loan and Housing Loan from Rs. 2.5 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh. The Government has also enhanced the Daily Allowance for the Members from Rs. 500/- to Rs. 1000/- per sitting. The Government has also decided to allow the Members to fly by Business/Club Class on international flights. In order to make the functioning of legislature more vibrant, the Government has created 84 posts of various categories of employees. The computerization of State Legislature has also been undertaken in consultation with the Speaker and Chairman. Similarly, the functioning of Legislative Council has also been made more transparent and an official Website of the Council has been launched recently. This will facilitate the general public with the important business of the Council, said the Minister. He said during the last year 16 Bills were passed by the House. He said 12 Government Bills are likely to be taken up for consideration during the current session, he added. As many as 20 Members including took part in the debate and contributed with valuable suggestions to further improve the functioning of the department. Later, the House passed the grants of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs for the year 2014-15, which were moved by the Minister, amounting to Rs.39.67 crore with voice vote. 20 Members took part in discussion on demand of grants including Harshdev Singh, Rafi Ahmad Mir, Aijaz Ahmad Jan, Ashok Kumar, M. He also urged the need for constant review and monitoring of the performance of the working of the standing councils adding that generally it has been felt that 80% of the govern-
ment cases are not defended properly in various forums. This lapse has left credibility of the government departments as well as government at stake. “Only lawyers with better performance and progress should be appointed or re-engaged” he opined. He suggested that members of august house also should be kept abreast with such review reports about the working standing councils. Speaking to the media the Ms. Kunzung Dolma said that the purpose of training the policemen in soft skill development is imperative for improving the attitude and behavior of police personnel, to make them service-oriented and develop a positive and helping attitude in them. J P Singh who visited the venue of trainings for reviewing the training sessions in the range said that the introducing soft skills development such as negotiation and communication, listening skills, ethics and professional conduct based on a public service mindset will give impetus to public friendly policing. The DIG added that the training will also cover ethics in policing and applying soft skills in context of community-based policing. The DIG further added that the soft skill development trainings are going on in all the five districts of North Kashmir range and during these five day long trainings about 4000 policemen are being trained in soft skill development. LOC Trade to resume Soon: Kichloo
The Director Industries and Commerce Kashmir and Deputy Commissioner Baramulla held many rounds of meetings with the officers on the other side of LOC to resolve the deadlock in the trade, as a result the PoK authorities agreed to accept their remaining trucks along with drivers and those of our side have also been allowed to cross with their trucks on 12.02. 2014 and the trade is likely to resume as per routine soon. The information was given by the Minister of State for Industries, Home, Mr. Sajad Ahmed Kichloo while replying to a question by Mr. Devender Singh Rana. Mr. Kitchloo said that the Cross LoC Trade was started as a Confidence Building Measure (CBM) be-
tween India and Pakistan on 21.10.2008. The SOP was devised by the Ministry of Home Affairs which incorporated a list of 21 items to be traded across the LoC. The Minister said that the cross LoC trade was going on as per routine till 16.01.2014, however, on 17.01.2014, goods from other side of LoC, 114 packets of Contraband substance were found hidden in almond bags loaded in a Truck, which was suspected to be a contraband item and the matter, was immediately brought to the notice of SDPO/SHO Uri who, in turn, informed Superintendent of Police, Baramulla. The S.P. Baramulla visited the spot along with the officials from Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), who tested the material and
it was found to be a narcotic substance. Mr. Kitchloo said that under provision 9 of SOP in vogue for the conduct of cross LoC trade, SHO Uri seized the 114 packets. The said vehicle and the driver have also been detained by the police authorities for further investigation. Mr. Kichloo said that in the backdrop of above incident, the officers on the other side of the LoC demanded release of Driver and the truck and refused to accept the truck, returning from TFC Salamabad and also did not allow 27 trucks that had crossed to PoK from this side. Consequently, 48 trucks along with the drivers returned to TFC Salamabad and 27 trucks that had crossed to PoK on 17-012014 were stranded at TFC Chakoti.

Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma today informed the House that funds to the tune of Rs. 738.43 crore have been released under AIBP for construction of different irrigation projects in the State during last three fiscals adding that against which an amount of Rs. 559.10 crore were expended on different projects during the said period in the State. Settlement ops to be completed within five years: ajaz JAMMU, FEBRUARY 20: Minister of State for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. Ajaz Ahmed Khan today assured the House that the settlement operations in the State would be completed within five years and all land records would be updated even as he said compensation has been paid in more than 80% land acquisition cases in the State.Winding up the discussion on the demand of grants for the departments under his charge, the Minister said the Settlement Organization of the Revenue Department has been reorganized and at a time when there used to be one Settlement Officer each for Jammu and Kashmir provinces, the Government has created 7 posts of Regional Directors of Settlement and Land Records Management in the State on which officers have been posted.Mr. Ajaz said the department has drawn up a road map for the completion of settlement operations and updating Land Records and in this connection the Land Records Management Agency created by the Government has been registered. He said the aim is to update the Land Records and simultaneously computerize them to induce transparency and accountability in the department. He said when he took over last year, there were 1400 vacancies of Patwaries and 30 vacancies of Tehsildars in the department and today of
them 1339 Patwaries and all Tehsildars have been appointed. He said this has greatly improved the Land Management process in the State for which he thanked the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah for backing these initiatives. Describing the creation of administrative units in the State as monumental, the Minister said the aim of this exercise was to take administration to the doorsteps of the people in far-flung, hilly and so far inaccessible areas. He said the government has constituted a Committee to look into the demands of the areas which claim to be neglected during this exercise and said that modalities are being worked out for assessing the demands of these areas. He said this would greatly benefit the people as they had to travel miles for getting petty jobs done at Tehsil and Niabat level. On the issue of land compensation cases raised by several members during the discussion, the Minister said more than 31000 kanals of land has been acquired in Jammu and Kashmir for various vital projects like Railways, National Highway widening and PMGSY and so far Rs. 381 crore have been paid as compensation to the concerned land owners. He said similarly, in the National Highway expansion 19759 kanals of land have been acquired for which Rs. 615.23 crore have been paid.

Unite to keep communal forces at bay
A
s the elections to Lok Sabha and J&K State Assembly are nearing, the negotiations for new poll alliances and political formations are going throughout the country. The exit polls conducted by some media agencies have indicated a confusing situation which may even lead to a hung parliament as no alliance whether NDA or UPA will be in a position to muscle enough seats for the formation of government. The third front which s still in the womb has been shown as emerging a solid political power which can decide the fate of the new government at the centre. There are all possibilities that Trinomol Congress, AIADMK, CPI(M), Samajwadi party, JDU, BSP and other regional forces may join hands to thwart the efforts of NDA to form the government at the centre. As the situation prevails there are enough indications that congress may opt to support the third front and utilize two or three years to regroup its cadres and revive its base in the masses. For this purpose the party can extent unequivocal support to third front and stay out of power so that a comparison is made between different governments and their performances for the last two decades. There are no doubts that NDA on its own cannot get the required simple majority and all other forces who are secular will refrain from extending their support to BJP lead government. BJP may again find it difficult to get some more allies as has been practice in the past. The regional parties have not only, the regional aspirations but also cannot afford to be called communal or supporting a party which has proved communal in nature. Still one cannot rule out bouncing back of Congress party as this party has its strong basis in the entire country and what it needs is to take the posture of pro-activeness and regroup its demoralized leaders and cadres. It seems that the party has surrendered before what is called Modi wave and its cadres are disappointed and disillusioned. Nobody can ignore the Muslim voter in the country as this voter in majority will support the secular parties and no BJP because it cannot afford repetition of Babri Masjid or Gujrat Carnage. The secular forces in the country have to gear up, forget their differences and unite to prove that this country is secular in character and has deep democratic roots, hence the communal forces cannot be allowed to thrive and prosper.
Warriors in the East A djoining the flowing Hooghly, straddling roughly between two iconic structures, Howrah Bridge and Vidyasagar Setu, stands a fortified citadel famously known as ‘Fort William’ since the latter half of the 18th century, which was once the military headquarters of British India. Ironically, unlike most forts of yesteryears, Fort William in its present ‘avatar’ never once stood any siege. Famed cannons that once dotted its ramparts but never once fired, today embellish its historical significance as it houses the present day headquarters of one of Indian Army’s sword arm, the Eastern Command. The pre eminence of Fort William, once the symbol of British military, also did not diminish despite shifting of the capital of British India from Calcutta to Delhi in 1911. The aura of Fort William, still held in awe, is unmatched by any other military formation in the country. With the rising sun as its ‘Coat of Arms’, Eastern Command’s rich and varied history goes back many centuries to the days of the Mughals and the East India Company. Having played a key part in the process of evolution of the pre and post Independence Indian Army, many illustrious formations such as 4 Corps (raised in May 1942) that fought their way to victory in the Burma Campaign, continue to serve in Eastern Command even today while some others like 15 Corps, have moved to other parts of the country. Retaining its splendour as the seat of military might, and subsequent to the restructuring and demobilisation of the Indian Army after First World War, Eastern Command was formed on November 1, 1920 in Lucknow (Nainital being its summer HQ). Its territorial jurisdiction extended over Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, Bihar, Bengal and further east beyond Assam. Nearly two decades later, the advent of Second World War led to redesignation of Eastern Command as Eastern Army in April 1942, with the additional operational responsibility of the Burma front included. With the creation of 14th Army in October 1943, and with operational responsibility limited up to river Meghna (now in Bangladesh), it reverted back to its earlier status of being Eastern Command and has remained so till date. At the time of Independence, Eastern Command was located in Ranchi. In 1955, It moved back to Lucknow, and eight years later to where it really belonged - Fort William in Calcutta. It has remained in the renamed Kolkata city with territorial jurisdiction signifying multi-faceted operational and administrative challenges. Conflicts Crises and Glory Post Independence, the crisis in North Eastern Frontier Agency (NEFA), the parts of north-eastern India in Arunachal Pradesh as it was then called, in 1962, was to prove a cathartic event in India’s history. Valuable politico-military lessons relevant till date were learnt during the crisis. HQs 4 Corps that was disbanded after the Second World War was re-raised at Tezpur, Assam on October 4, 1962. In 1971, Lt Gen Jagjit Singh Aurora, then GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, accepted history’s greatest surrender since the end of Second World War. It was indeed a red-letter day in the history of the Indian Army. The Indian Armed Forces had achieved a stunning and memorable victory, leading to the liberation of Bangladesh. Audacity and speed of operation knocked the adversary off balance. Over 93,000 personnel of the Pakistan Armed Forces were taken as ‘prisoners of war’. The
victory epitomised the glory of the Indian Armed Forces, and since then, December 16, the day of ‘Instrument of Surrender’ was signed by Lt Gen AAK Niazi of Pakistan Army, is celebrated as “Vijay Diwas”. The Vijay Diwas event is celebrated in a big way in Fort William under Eastern Command. Mukti Jodhas and Indian veterans are hosted by Eastern Command on the occasion every year. In the celebrations held in December last, Veer Nari Smt Balamdina Ekka and son Vincent Ekka, family members of the sole Param Vir Chakra (PVC) recipient in the eastern theatre, martyr Lance Naik Albert Ekka, also graced the event. Quest for Peace Since Independence not all crises in the north-eastern region were gnawing threats from adversaries, some of them were from within. The insurgency of Nagaland was the first to begin, setting tone for others in the region to follow. While Nagaland came into being a state in 1963, 8 Mountain Division was raised the same year to counter insurgency in the state. A Counter Insurgency and Jungle warfare (CIJW) School was established at Vairangte, Mizoram to impart pre-induction training to all the incoming units. Today, it can be mentioned that the CIJW School has become a ‘centre of excellence’ where foreign troops are regulars, either for training or joint drills, in the global quest for peace against insurgency-related actions. To counter the growing powerful underground organisations such as the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN), HQs 3 Corps was raised in February 1985 to ensure a co-ordinated employment of all troops combating insurgency. Army units have carried out endless cordon and searches of villages, interceptions and raids to maintain a strike rate higher than the insurgent’s ability to recoup. More importantly, formations of Eastern Command have initiated many steps to win the hearts and minds of the people. In December last month, the current GOC-in-C, Lt Gen Dalbir Singh who also previously commanded the 3 Corps, hosted and feted children from the Kuki tribe of Nagas at Fort William during a ‘Sadbhavna’ excursion for the 30-odd students organised by the Army. It may also be mentioned that similar excursions from Jammu & Kashmir are also routinely hosted here. The insurgencies in Mizoram and Tripura also ran a similar course. The undercurrents of frustration among the youth in the Mizo Hill Districts were akin to the ones in Nagaland. Relentless operations by the Indian Army quelled Mizo National Front (MNF) activities that had become very hostile. Meanwhile, emergence of Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) activities in Manipur were among the other internal threats that the Army units under Eastern Command had to counter in the quest for peace in the region. The resentment of the presence of ‘foreigners’ by ethnic population of Assam beginning with agitations also gave birth to a secessionist organisation who tried to acquire a Robin Hood image, albeit with the knowledge of making improvised explosive devices (IED) and the power of media. The signing of ‘Assam Accord’ in 1985 did nothing to curb their hostile acts. The Army’s efforts in quest for peace has mostly helped peace return to the beleaguered state. The complexities of insurgency in the north-eastern states notwithstanding, East-
ern Command and its formations have dealt with a vitiated internal security situation with a firm yet patient and understanding hand. Restrain and the minimum necessary force was always resorted to only when it was unavoidable. Successive Commanders at all levels have always sought to reduce the Army’s presence and primacy so that other organs of the state attend to the root causes of the insurgency. Golden Milestones The Eastern Command has been operationally committed since Independence. Their sacrifices have justly earned them many distinctions, honours and awards. General K Cariappa, OBE, who became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief on January 15, 1949 (now celebrated as Army Day), was also the first GOC-in-C of Eastern Command for a short spell after Independence. He was later conferred the rank of a Field Marshal in 1996. Similarly, Field Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw, MC, who led the Indian Army to victory in 1971 and became India’s first Field Marshal in 1975, was yet another of its illustrious Army Commanders. Besides, the current Chief of the Army Staff, General Bikram Singh was the Eastern Army Commander, others who preceded him included Generals PP Kumaramanglam, AS Vaidya, VN Sharma and VK Singh. Paving the Way Onwards In addition to the complex challenges of national security and land borders with five neighbouring countries, and CI operations in many north-eastern states, Eastern Command will continue to play an important role in the years ahead. It therefore, continues to engage in the dynamic process of preparing to face the future challenges. The external and internal threats demand a high degree of operational readiness and the ability to deliver a decisive response from the formations and units serving under Eastern Command. With a strong dissuasive posture and a restrained minimum force in conjunction with other security forces and the civil administration, the military might of Eastern Command is competent to quell any threats from within. To forge ahead to effectively face all challenges, the Eastern Command relies on the well-deliberated modernisation programme of the Indian Army that has been further set into motion by the current Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh. Troops deployed in the north-eastern states are in the process of being equipped with a series of modern weapon systems and force multipliers to enhance their surveillance reach, night fighting capabilities and the quality of fire power. Eastern Command continues to aspire to contribute its share of effort to nation building activities. Providing aid to civil authority in times of distress, winning the hearts and mind of people by helping them to help themselves, greening of the cantonments and educating troops to protect the ecologically fragile north-eastern region remains one of its key result areas. Eastern Command is justifiably proud of its glorious past, confident of managing the complex challenges of today with professional élan and looks forward with hope to a promising future. Its glory, like that of the rising sun, shall never diminish. The future will surely witness the high noon of soldiering of the indefatigable ‘India’s warriors in the east’.
