PDP will be divided into three factions before 2014 polls: NC Srinagar, July 31: Ruling National Conference on Wednesday poohpoohed Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s assertion on “his magical solution” to Kashmir issue, asking him if he has any, why should he hide it. “Why deprive the people of the State by waiting for an absolute majority if the solution is the panacea of all the issues associated with the Kashmir imgroglio and is likely to satisfy all stake holders,” Rana told KNS, asking Mufti Sayeeds to rise above political considerations for the good of the people, “if the magical solution is so good.” On Monday Mufti Mohammad Syeed had sought a decisive mandate from people in the 2014 Assembly elections, claiming that he has ‘vision and a roadmap’ for the resolution of Kashmir issue that can “only be implemented if my party gets majority in the upcoming elections.” “Deceit and duplicity has been trait of People’s Democratic Party, which believes in gimmicks and political jugglery,” Rana said KNS in response to assertion of the
And today a formal communication was sent to the State Government. The swiftness of the Government and prompt action by the Minister to get the increased seats utilised from the current session has brought hope and happiness to the student community. The hike in the intake capacity of these colleges had become necessary as the State is facing a shortage of qualified medicos due to the expansion of health infrastructure, more so in rural and hilly areas. Also the intake capacity of the GMCs was fixed some 40 years ago after which it was never reviewed. Mr. Taj Mohi ud Din had proposed to increase the seats in medical colleges of the State to meet the demand of qualified medicos. The State Government took the proposal to Centre and Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad also pushed for the same and today after many decades the seats of medical colleges in the State were increased from 250 to 400 and it would have effect from current year only. Student community feels enthralled over this swift action of the State Government. They expressed their gratitude to Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services & Sports, Mr. Taj Mohi ud Din for having initiated Srinagar, July 31: 3-day this bold move, pursuing it and finally getting it accepted w o r k s h o p o n f i r e by the Centre despite all odds. former Chief Minister. “Everything will come to fore in 2014. I can tell you now that by then (2014), PDP will be divided into three factions and we know who will be heading these,” said Rana, the former political advisor to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Describing Omar Abdullah led coalition between National Conference and Congress as a model of good governance, Rana said the alliance was working smoothly and will last the entire six-year term. “We have seen coalition government in the past, especially from 2002 to 2008. We all remember how PDP back stabbed the then Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and brought his government down by intrigue and deceit. They did not allow the government to function and behaved like the opposition because they could not reconcile with remaining out of power. The people have not forgotten how and why Mangat Ram Sharmaji, the then Deputy Chief Minister was staging walkouts during every other cabinet meeting,” he said.
He also accused the PDP of “hatching conspiracy with a BJP leader in New Delhi to bring down the Congress-led coalition by creating Amarnath land row in 2008.” Referring to the developmental scenario of the State during the tenure of the ruling alliance, Rana said, “Our record is testimony of our achievements.” Rana also declared that Nationa l Conference will emerge as a strong force and a predominant player in the Jammu region, as elsewhere in the State. “The performance of National Conference in 2014 election in the Jammu region will be repeat of 1996,” he said, adding that people’s support is the biggest strength of the party. He said that the PDP was nonexistent in Jammu. “They will not get even a single seat in Jammu plains, Chenab Valley and Pirpanchal Range. They will be wiped out in Poonch and Rajouri as well,” he said while rejecting the claims by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that Chenab Valley has been neglected. “PDP has no discernible presence in the Chenab Valley”, he maintained.”

an being a social animal learns from the mistakes of history. Now, perhaps, the society including Media has started introspecting the impex of violence on the mindset of one generation born during the turbulent period. Everyday, one comes across some spine-chilling incident or the other- whether youths committing suicide, pushing themselves to the dark gorge or drugs, brutally killing relations, friends for money or property. The rapidly growing criminalization in the society has left the old rather middle aged generation in lurch on this sordid state of affairs from where there is no way back to the same secular and Sufi culture of the valley, known for all over the world. Media, except for official media towards which no one ever paid any heed in that surcharge display of emotions and sentiments, suppose to be the fourth pillar of democracy, remained silent at a time when corrective measure could have helped a lot to set the plague right. But it missed chance due to various obvious reasons. The irrational following to extra political sloganeering by some disgruntled leaders, sanctified violence to such an extent that society today stands at such a cross road where there is nothing except darkness and a spineless, limping society with an ‘army’ of physically and mentally disabled, sallow faced youths in trance intoxicated with hype passions of escapism, cynicism, having bitter and passive attitude, with no spark in life to stride against the tides. The optimistic society with higher goals set can only strive hard and excel in world. What can a society attain where nearly two lakh youths including thousands of young women are in spate of drug addiction? The situation instead of improving is rather worsening with every passing day due to lack of proper health care facilities especially for psychological diseases. Very oftenly, government or system is blamed for these lacunas. But one has yet to come across a ‘self-destructive’ society like Kashmir which set ablaze temples of education, health care, government institutions meant for the welfare of the common masses with its own hands for speculative dreams of freedom. The Kashmiris known for hard work, honesty, hospitality and all other virtues are now labeled with passivity, corruption, drug smuggling, violence, crime and what not. How and when did the ‘work culture’ vanish from this land? Which are the factors responsible for this? The answers to these questions lie within ourselves provided we see and introspect the past happenings without rose-tainted glasses and with full honesty as what are the gains and losses of the past two decades’ struggle. Other than the civil society governmental institutions, rising above the political interests and brickerings, should solve the political and social issues with rationality and moderation. Let the society again epitomize honesty, love, passion, communal harmony, respect, honour and justice for all the communities living in this beautiful land with positive attitude towards life.

Electoral Laws of India
ndia is a sovereign, socialist, secular democratic republic. Democracy is one of the inalienable basic features of the Constitution of India and f orms part of its basic structure (Kesavanand Bharati v State of Kerala and Others AIR 1973 SC 1461). The concept of democracy, as visualized by the Constitution, pre-supposes the representation of the people in Parliament and State Legislatures by the method of election (N P Punnuswami v Returning Officer Namakkal AIR 1952 SC 64). For democracy to survive rule of law must prevail and it is necessary that the best available men should be chosen as people’s representatives for proper governance of the country (Gadakh Yashwantrao Kankararao v Balasaheb Vikhepatil AIR 1994 SC 678). And for the best available men to be chosen as people’s representatives, elections must be free and fair and conducted in an atmosphere where the electors are able to exercise their franchise according to their own free will. Thus, free and fair elections form the bedrock of democracy. India has adopted the British Westminster system of parliamentary form of government. We have an elected President, elected Vice-President, elected Parliament and elected State Legislature for every State. Now, we also have elected municipalities, panchayats and other local bodies. For ensuring free and fair elections to these offices and bodies, there are three prerequisites: (1) an authority to conduct these elections, which should be insulated from political and executive interference, (2) set of laws which should govern the conduct of elections and in accordance whereof the authority charged with the responsibility of conducting these elections should hold them, and (3) a mechanism whereby all doubts and disputes arising in connection with these elections should be resolved. The Constitution of India has paid due attention to all these imperatives and duly provided for all the three matters. The Constitution has created an independent Election Commission of India in which vests the superintendence, direction and
control of preparation of electoral rolls for, and conduct of elections to, the offices of President and Vice-President of India and Parliament and State Legislatures (Article 324). A similar independent constitutional authority has been created for conduct of elections to municipalities, panchayats and other local bodies (Articles 243 K and 243 ZA). The authority to enact laws for elections to the offices of President and Vice-President and to Parliament and State Legislatures has been reposed by the Constitution in Indian Parliament (Articles 71 and 327). Laws relating to conduct of elections to municipalities, panchayats and other local bodies are framed by the respective State Legislatures (Articles 243 K and 243 ZA). All doubts and disputes relating to the elections to the office of President and Vice-President are dealt with by the Supreme Court (Article 71), whereas the initial jurisdiction to deal with all doubts and disputes relating to the elections to Parliament and State Legislatures vests in the High Court of the State concerned, with a right of appeal to the Supreme Court (Article 329). The disputed matters relating to elections to municipalities, etc. are decided by the lower courts in accordance with the laws made by the respective State Governments. The law relating to the elections to the offices of President and Vice-President of India has been enacted by Parliament in the form of Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act 1952. This Act has been supplemented by the Presidential and Vice-President ial Elections Rules 1974 and further supplemented by the Election Commission’s directions and instructions on all aspects. Conduct of elections to Parliament and State Legislatures are governed by the provisions of two Acts, namely, Representation of the People Act 1950 and Representation of the People Act 1951. Representation of the People Act 1950 deals mainly with the matters relating to the preparation and revision of electoral rolls. The provisions of this Act have been supplemented by detailed rules,
Registration of Electors Rules 1960, made by the Central Government, in consultation with the Election Commission, under Section 28 of that Act and these rules deal with all the aspects of preparation of electoral rolls, their periodic revision and updating, inclusion of eligible names, exclusion of ineligible names, correction of particulars, etc. These rules also provide for the issue of electoral identity cards to registered electors bearing their photographs at the State cost. These rules also empower the Election Commission to prepare the photo electoral rolls containing photographs of electors, in addition to their other particulars. All matters relating to the actual conduct of elections are governed by the provisions of the Representation of the People Act 1951 which have been supplemented by the Conduct of Elections Rules 1961 framed by the Central Government, in consultation with the Election Commission, under Section 169 of that Act. This Act and the rules make detailed provisions for all stages of the conduct of elections like the issue of writ notification calling the election, filing of nominations, scrutiny of nominations, withdrawal of candidatures, taking of poll, counting of votes and constitution of the Houses on the basis of the results so declared. The superintendence, directions and control of elections vested by the Constitution in the Election Commission empowers the Commission even to make special orders and directions to deal with the situations for which the laws enacted by the Parliament make no provision or insufficient provision. The classic example of filling such vacuous area is the promulgation of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order 1968 which governs the matters relating to recognition of political parties at the National and State level, reservation of election symbols for them, resolution of disputes between splinter groups of such recognised parties, and allotment of symbols to all candidates at elections, etc. Another such vacuous area where the
Election Commission exercises its inherent powers under Article 324 of the Constitution is the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct for guidance of political parties and candidates. The Model Code is a unique document evolved by the political parties themselves to govern their conduct during elections so as to ensure that a level playing field for all political parties is maintained during elections and, in particular, to curb the misuse of official power and official machinery by the ruling party(ies) to further the electoral prospects of their candidates. All post election matters to resolve doubts and disputes arising out of or in connection with the elections are also dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Representation of the People Act 1951. Under this Act, all such doubts and disputes can be raised before the High Court of the State concerned, but only after the election is over and not when the election process is still on. The above mentioned Representation of the People Acts 1950 and 1951 and the Registration of Electors Rules 1960 and Conduct of Elections Rules 1961 form complete code on all matters relating to elections to both Houses of Parliament and State Legislatures. Any person aggrieved by any of the decisions of the Election Commission or the authorities functioning under it has to find a remedy in accordance with the provisions of these Acts and Rules. These Acts and Rules enable the Election Commission to issue directions and instructions to deal with various aspects of the preparation/revision of electoral rolls and the conduct of elections and lead all such matters of detail to be dealt with by the Commission. Pursuant thereto, the Commission has issued a plethora of directions and instructions which have been consolidated by the Commission in various compendia and the handbooks for the Electoral Registration Officers, Returning Officers, Presiding Officers, candidates, polling agents and counting agents.

Migraines do not hurt your brain
Migraines are not associated with cognitive decline, suggests new research even though previous studies have linked the disorder to increased stroke risk and structural brain lesions. Migraines affect about 20 percent of the female population, and while these headaches are common, not much is known about this complex disease. "Previous studies on migraines and cognitive decline were small and unable to identify a link between the two," said Pamela Rist, research fellow in preventive medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), who led the study. "Our study was large enough to draw the conclusion that migraines, while painful, are not strongly linked to cognitive decline," said Rist,
the British Medical Journal (BMJ) reports. The research team analysed data from the Women's Health Study, a cohort of nearly 40,000 women, 45 years and older. In this study, researchers analysed data from 6,349 women who provided information about migraine status at baseline and then participated in cognitive testing during follow-up, according to a BWH statement. Participants were classified into four groups: no history of migraine, migraine with aura (unpleasant smell, seeing flashing lights), migraine without aura, and past history of migraine. Cognitive testing was carried out in two-year intervals
up to three times. "Compared with women with no history of migraine, those who experienced migraine with or without aura did not have significantly different rates of cognitive decline," said Rist. "This is an important finding for both physicians and patients. Patients with migraine and their treating doctors should be reassured that migraine may not have long-term consequences on cognitive function.
The postpartum diet need not be complicated — just a mix of ageold remedies and home science The stork came and went, and left you multitudes of relatives who are telling you what to eat. They are peddling age-old remedies, while you are clutching on to your doctor's advice of no green vegetables or fruits. Iron deficiency, constipation and soreness are some of the things you may suffer, while expending more energy and needing more calcium. The best path is to try out both sets of advice and see what works for you. Ketaki Karpe-Kolgaonkar, new mother and clinical pharmacist found that 'the diet should be all about the mother's needs'. "The baby takes the nutrition it needs and doesn't need any help doing that," she says. "Watch out for bacteria from unwashed vegetables, unpasteurised milk, unfiltered water or uncooked meats." Toiletries that might damage your health
As experts deem fake tans 'dangerous', we look at other toiletries that might well be damaging your health, too. Fake tan products are far from alone in containing chemicals that research suggests can have nasty side effects. Many cosmetics are formulated with a mixture of controversial synthetic ingredients that have been linked to health problems including breast cancer, hormone disruption, fertility issues, asthma, allergies, diabetes and
birth defects. And it's this socalled 'chemical cocktail' that has some experts worried especially when you consider the huge number of different lotions and potions most of us use each day. "No one can say that if you use X, Y and Z you're going to develop cancer or diabetes," says Elizabeth SalterGreen, of a UK charity. "But an increasing amount of research suggests that high levels of certain ingredients can affect our health.""When you take
into account the sheer number of products we now use, and the fact that we're also exposed to some of these chemicals through household cleaners, food pesticides, packaging and general industrial output," continues Elizabeth, "there's a concern that this collective onslaught could take us over the safety threshold." "Our skin is not an impenetrable barrier," says author Dawn Mellowship. "It absorbs a significant
amount of what we apply to it into the bloodstream and it can then be stored in the body, where it accumulates and has the potential to do harm." How to reduce your levels of chemical exposure 1.Use fewer products to reduce your overall exposure. 2. Check the label and watch out for synthetic chemicals such as parabens, formaldehyde and triclosan. 3.Don't assume organic or natural is always best. While many such products contain fewer toxic synthetic chemicals, it's still worth checking out the ingredients on a product to find out what is actually in there. 4.If there is a big long list of unpronounceable chemical names then it might be worth looking for something with fewer ingredients that you recognise.5.Pay particular attention to the products that stay on your skin the longest, such as creams and lotions. 6. Swap dark hair dye for vegetable-based colours or those stating they're PPDfree.
at least in the first six months, because she will be nursing the baby more often," she says. "So she needs to eat more calories, which will come from small meals, which are rich in proteins — nuts, daals and legumes." If you are a non-vegetarian, don't switch to a leafy vegetarian meal instantly. This will cause you more harm than good. Eat shredded meat in soups and broths without too much spice or oil. Pump iron Since a new mother suffers from loss of blood, her iron levels could be precariously balanced. A little spinach can go a long way. Ketaki developed low iron levels in her second trimester, and panicked. "So I started to incorporate spinach in everything such as daal, chappati dough and even in chicken curry." She continued this after the baby came, which steadied her iron levels. Milk the calcium It goes without saying that you'll need lots of calcium so that the baby can use the cafeteria uninterrupted. "If you are lactose intolerant, and can't drink milk or eat milk products, go for curd," says Joshi. "Garden cress seeds (aleev
Infants as young as three months of age are able to automatically detect and learn complex dependencies between syllables in spoken language, a new study has revealed. In contrast, adults only recognised the same dependencies when asked to actively search for them.
The study by scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig also highlights the important role of basic pitch discrimination abilities for early language development. The speed and apparent ease with which young infants learn the
natural languages and can be found in many grammatical constructions." For instance, in the sentence "The boy always smiles", the third-personsuffix "s" of the verb is dependent on the noun "boy". In the study, this was reflected in the use of combinations like "le" and "bu" in sequences like "le-wibu". From time to time, however, combinations like "le-wi-to" would appear, in which one of the syllables was out of place. "EEG measurements showed us that the babies recognized this rule violation", Mueller said. Additionally, the scientists would occasionally change the tone of one syllable to a higher pitch - with an interesting outcome: Only those infants whose brains reacted to pitch changes in
if she has to chew one thing less, it's a huge convenience," says Ketaki. "Fluids help flush out toxins and medication, and help stay oriented even with the lack of sleep that comes with parenting." Yoghurt is not only a stool softener but also has the probiotics essential for keeping Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) away. Edible gum balls (dink ladoos) are a good laxative because of their combination of ghee, edible gum and nuts. "After the baby came, I would resist therapeutic Indian food without thinking about whether it was scientific," says Ketaki. "I eventually did eat one dinkache laadoo a day and that did me good. Sometimes, it pays to listen to your mother she may know best."
Grapes good for men's heart health Consuming grapes may help protect heart health in people with metabolic syndrome, a new study has revealed. Researchers observed a reduction in key risk factors for heart disease in men with metabolic syndrome: reduced blood pressure, improved blood flow and reduced inflammation. Natural components found in grapes, known as polyphenols, are thought to be responsible for these beneficial effects. The randomized, placebocontrolled, crossover study, led by principal investigator Dr. Maria Luz Fernandez and Jacqueline Barona, a PhD student in Dr. Fernandez' lab at the Department of Nutritional Sciences of the University of Connecticut, recruited men between 30 and 70 years of age with metabolic syndrome. The study is believed to be the first to look at the impact of grapes on metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that occur together - increased blood pressure, a high blood sugar level, excess body fat around the waist or low HDL (the good cholesterol) and in-
Babies better at learning complex languages basics of a language regularly astound parents and scientists alike. Of course, adults are usually assumed to have the edge in sophisticated language learning. However, scientists Jutta Mueller, Angela D. Friederici and Claudia Maennel have now found that when it comes to extracting complex rules from spoken language, a three-monthold outperforms adult learners. For 20 minutes, the scientists played a stream of syllables to babies while measuring their brain responses using electroencephalography (EEG). Pairs of syllables appeared together, but were separated by a third syllable. Jutta Mueller, first author of the study, stresses that "such dependencies between non-neighbouring elements are typical for
or haleem), are a rich source for calcium. Traditionally, these are made into sugar-rich ladoos. If you are being careful about sugar, make a haleem kheer." Water yourself There's not much you can do to artificially stimulate breast milk, other than drink lots of fluids. Also, new mothers tend to be a little scared of the pain and resist passing urine or stools, which can result in constipation. Ordinarily, this can be resolved by medication, but because medicines will pass on the baby, it's better to take preventive action. "I used to keep a huge bottle of water and use a straw to sip it so as to not put pressure on a the C section incision," says Ketaki. Joshi also suggests ingesting fluids by drinking lots of soup, coconut water, broths, whole fruits, fresh fruit juices and milkshakes that are also easier to eat for the harried mother. "I would drink strawberry milkshake so that it didn't feel like you are adding ten things to the plate. Even eating seems overwhelming to a new mom and
a more mature way could detect the syllable dependencies. When facing the same task as the babies, adults only showed a reaction to the rule violations when asked to explicitly look for dependencies between the syllables. Mueller and her colleagues conclude that, evidently, the automatic recognition ability is lost later on. "What we found particularly interesting is that the small group of adults who did show evidence of rule learning also showed a stronger brain response to the pitch changes," she said. These findings not only help understand how children manage to learn language so quickly during early development, but also point to a strong link between very basic auditory skills and sophisticated rule learning abilities.
creased blood triglycerides - significantly increasing the risk for heart disease, stroke and diabetes. Metabolic syndrome is a major public health concern, and is on the rise in the U.S. In this study, participants were randomly assigned to consume grapes, in the form of a freeze-dried whole grape powder, or a placebo powder, for four weeks. Then, following a 3-week "washout" period where neither grapes nor
placebo were consumed, individuals were allocated to the alternate treatment. This powerful study design allowed investigators to compare the response of each individual to consumption of both the placebo and grapes. The study results showed that for each of the study's subjects, grape consumption resulted in significant decreases in blood pressure, improved blood flow (greater vasodilation), and
decreases in a compound associated with inflammation. "These results suggest that consuming grapes can improve important risk factors associated with heart disease, in a population that is already at higher risk," Fernandez said. This further supports the accumulating evidence that grapes can positively influence heart health, and extends it to men with metabolic syndrome," Fernandez added.
Sleeping pills don`t work for 40 percent poppers London: Sleeping pills seldom worked for 40 percent of the poppers who suffer from insomnia, says a survey of 20,000 people, according to a British study. Some 42 percent of the patients currently on medication have been sleeping badly for over 11 years or more. A further 22 percent had insomnia lasting two to five years, while one in six had suffered between six and 10 years, the survey revealed. Experts said the study suggested that sleeping pills were not combating longterm sleep problems and that cognitive behavioural therapy has been proven to be more effective.Around 10 million National Heath Service (MHS) prescriptions for sleeping pills are issued each year. But NHS guidelines say they should be for short-term use only - usually for two weeks and up to a maximum of
four weeks at a time. Findings from The Great British Sleep Survey of more than 20,000 adults in Britain found we are a nation of poor sleepers. The average score of sleep quality was only five out of 10. Long-term poor sleepers were twice as likely to have relationship problems, suffer from daytime fatigue and lack of concentration. The survey also showed almost one in 10 with insomnia were on sleeping pills prescribed by their
doctor, with one in five using over the counter remedies. American research this year found sleeping pills may significantly increase the risk of premature death. The latest survey was sponsored by Sleepio, an online sleep improvement programme which uses cognitive behavioural techniques. Andrew McCulloch, chief executive of the Mental Health Foundation, has campaigned for the NHS to highlight the importance of sleep.

Ms Mayawati, who is a former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, is a vocal champion of carving the state into four - Purvanchal, Bundelkhand, Awadh and Western Uttar Pradesh. Her government, which preceded the current Samajwadi party government headed by Akhilesh Yadav, had passed a resolution in the Uttar Pradesh assembly for this. The Samajwadi Party, however, opposes splitting the state. Most Recent
“Central ministers from Uttar Pradesh should pressurize the Centre for the division of the state,” Ms Mayawati said today. She also supported the demand for separate statehood for Gorkhaland in Bengal and Vidarbha in Maharashtra. Those demands have drawn new energy from the Congress Working Committee’s endorsement yesterday of the decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh to create India’s 29th state, Telangana. Congress MP Vilas Muttemwar, who is a member of the Congress Working Committee, has written to party president Sonia Gandhi to press for the creation of Vidarbha. And in Bengal, moves to create Telangana have sparked off fresh protests in favour of Gorkhaland.
India is ahead of the world in prison reforms: Kiran Bedi KOLKATA: India leads the world in prison reforms even though the jails here are not as secure as those in the West, former IPS officer KiranBedi has said. “India is ahead in prison reforms. I am making a confirmed statement as I visited more than 40 prisons around the world. The reforms which we have been able to do are not seen elsewhere,” Bedi told reporters here. In town to promote upcoming Hindi film ‘Calapor’ which is based on prison reforms, Bedi said jails in the western countries are very secure as they follow the rulebook strictly. “Jail breaks are therefore
Digvijaya Singh slams Shivraj Singh Chouhan over mining controversy Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh on Sunday attacked Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over the mining controversy in the state and asked him to show courage and face a no confidence motion. “Madhya Pradesh BJP scared of facing no confidence motion moved by Congress. 7 cases of corruption of CM’s relations to be exposed. minister Rajendra Shukla and Technical education and Public Relations minister Laxmikant Sharma,” he had said. During a raid on two influential Bhopal-based businessmen Dilip Suryavanshi and Sudhir Sharma, the income tax department had recovered diaries which had entries claiming that the two ministers had been paid bribes. The case is now being probed by CBI and Enforcement Directorate. Singh claimed that complaints against the two ministers are pending before the state Lokayukta but the Chief Minister has not accorded sanction against the two yet.
The Congress leader alleged Chouhan has remained a mute spectator to the corruption in his government and this indicated his involvement in the corrupt practices. Describing prison as a township, she said it becomes a violent city without reforms. Releasing this Friday, ‘Calapor’ stars Bengali actress Rituparna Sengupta and actor Priyanshu Chatterjee. Narendra Modi eyes Obama in battle for cyber world AHMEDABAD: Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi seems out to prove he is more popular than US President Barack Obama — at least on social networking sites. Having faced a defeat at the hand of the US president in November 2011 when Modi lost following a last-minute spurt in negative votes in the fifth annual Mashable awards in the category of ‘Must-Follow Politician On Social Media’, the Gujarat CM now wants to get back. By January, Modi’s cyber-army is scripting an architecture that would ensure that his likes on Facebook and followers on Twitter cross Obama’s score — 3.64 crore ‘likes’ on Facebook and 3.45 crore followers on Twitter. A fortnight ago, the close-knit IT cell of the BJP had sent special online forms to all Modi fan pages on Facebook asking them to ‘merge’ into the main parent fan page. This would mean all the ‘likes’ on various individual pages run by Modi fans would get converted into ‘likes’ on the Gujarat CM’s FB page. The BJP team had held meetings
If Shatrughan quits BJP, we won’t stop him, says CP Thakur The BJP on Wednesday threatened to take action against party MP Shatrughan Sinha for saying Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was “PM material”. Bihar BJP leader C.P. Thakur said action would be taken against Sinha for the indiscipline. He said if Sinha quit the BJP, the party would not stop him and it would not be a loss for the party. He also said both Nitish and Shatrughan were great actors. Sinha on Tuesday had said that the JD-U leader was “certainly PM material”. Sinha said Nitish Kumar was a nice human being and a man of principles. “He is a

Today the official fan page ‘Narendra Modi’ on Facebook has garnered 26.05 lakh ‘likes’. Sponsored Facebook page ‘Narendra Modi for PM’ has 12.45 lakh ‘likes’ with 13,000 ‘likes’ adding every week. talking about ‘Narendra Modi for PM’, much more than the official site. Another site sponsored on Facebook is ‘Namo India’ which too has garnered 2.4 lakh ‘likes’ in a short time. “We have a team in Hyderabad which has been paid for the job. ‘Narendra Modi for PM’ will merge into the official campaign fan page once Modi’s name is officially declared by the BJP. Besides this, Every MLA in Gujarat and outside the state has been asked to manage their Facebook pages and garner ‘likes’. Some MLAs have been given the target of almost 1 lakh likes on Modi’s parent page,” says a senior BJP functionary. This experiment will be replicated on Twitter as well. “If you click the lakhs of followers on Modi’s fan page on Twitter you will notice that many of the accounts have not even tweeted once. There are close to 4.13 lakh such accounts on Twitter. These were created by the BJP’s IT cell and some techies who used special software to create these accounts,” says a member of BJP’s IT cell.
Delhi gangrape: SC asks Swamy to inform JJB to defer verdict involving juvenile New Delhi, Jul 31 (PTI) The Supreme Court today said that the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) be informed not to pronounce its verdict on the alleged role of a minor in the December 16 gangrape and murder case, till it decides a PIL seeking fresh interpretation of the term 'juvenile'. A bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam asked Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy to inform the JJB on this issue and posted his case for hearing on August 14. Advocate Anoop Bhambani, appearing for the juvenile, opposed Swamy's plea and sought more time to file response to his petition. The Centre also opposed Swamy's plea, saying a third party should not intervene in a criminal case and any decision taken by the apex court in this case cannot be applied retrospectively. The bench, however, said the issue raised in the petition needs to be examined along with
maintainability of the plea. Swamy has sought that the "mental and intellectual maturity" of minor offenders be considered instead of the age limit of 18 years while fixing their culpability. After the apex court had on July 23 agreed to hear his plea, the JJB had deferred till August 5 the pronouncement of its verdict on the alleged involvement of the juvenile accused in the December 16 gangrape and murder case. The juvenile was one of six persons who had gangraped a 23-year-old girl in a moving bus here, according to the prosecution. The victim died in a Singapore hospital on December 29.Of the other five accused, four--Mukesh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma and Akshay Thakur--are facing trial before a fast track court. Proceedings against key accused Ram Singh abated after his death on March 11 when he was found hanging in his cell in Tihar Jail here.
