participation’ in Pugwash conference which was sent to its Chairman Asif Lone. General secretary Tajamul Massoqi, Iqbal Lone, Javid Maqroo and others were present in the meeting. initiative will not only help to meet the energy requirements of the State but export a good chunk of it to the neighbouring States to earn remunerative finances for the development of the State. Omar Abdullah said that he wants to achieve financial autonomy of the State and relieve it for being constantly dependent on the Central assistance for funds for development purposes. He said that the present financial status of the State is grim. “We have total annual income of only Rs. 6500 crores from all sources while we have to pay Rs. 13500 crores salary to employees, Rs. 2000 crores to pensioners and our electricity loss amounts to another Rs. 2000 crores annually. In this situation we have to remain totally dependent on Central assistance”, he said and thanked UPA Government for extending all help to the State and said that if God forbid there will be a Government at the Centre unfriendly towards Jammu and Kashmir, the State would be in deep trouble. “In order to safeguard the economy and financial position of State, we have to focus on harnessing hydro electric potential of our rivers and make the State independent of financial stress”, he said. Stating that NC and Congress are on same page to protect and strengthen State’s secular democratic credentials, ensure inclusive development equitably in all regions and sub-regions of the state, fortify the bonds of amity and brotherhood between various sections of the society and work for peace and all round development of the State. He said that the joining of hands by NC-Congress is not for power but to serve the people in accordance to their aspirations and achieve a prosperous, secular, peaceful and plenty Jammu and Kashmir. The Chief Minister said that some people want to weaken the bonds of coalition between NC and Congress in the State for their vested interests. He said that the ill designs of these people will not succeed. He said the events and disturbance in 2008 affected National Conference and the Congress equally because both are champions of solidarity, democracy and unity of all the regions and sections of the society, and the attempt in 2008 was to weaken the peoples’ faith in secularism, unity and brotherhood. He said both the two parties are committed to the welfare and holistic development of the State and the coalition Government in the State is working in tandem and togetherness to achieve the stupendous task. Omar Abdullah also mentioned the attempts by some elements to flair up communal tension in Kishtwar and said
that forces behind such incidents are surviving on hatred. He asked the people to maintain the traditional brotherhood and isolate the forces behind dividing the society in the name of region, religion, creed, caste and colour. Referring to the development programmes, the Chief Minister said that schemes and projects started during the tenure of the then Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad have been completed by his Government and new projects in all the sectors have been launched to help develop Jammu and Kashmir in a comprehensive manner. He also referred to the historic initiatives taken by his Government to empower people and reduce the chances of corruption in the State particularly at the lower level confronted by the common and poor people. Omar Abdullah said that implementation of Public Services Guarantee Act bringing about 70 services of 13 Departments under its ambit for time bound delivery, is an historic Act to give authority to people to demand listed public services within the prescribed time frame. He said any failure or delay on the part of Government officials in providing these services to the consumers makes them liable for fine and the consumer entitled for compensation. The Chief Minister said that construction companies building various projects in the State in different areas including Ramban, Banihal and Chanderkote have been categorically directed to engage local youth in the work. He said that any complaint on this count would be seriously viewed and the erring companies taken to task accordingly. However, Omar Abdullah asked the youth to upgrade their skills by obtaining trainings in ITIs and Polytechnics established in their areas to snatch chances of excuse from these companies regarding non-availability of skilled youth in the area for specified works in the projects. The meeting was also addressed by Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, Minister of State for Power, Viqar Rasool, Legislators Abdul Gani Malik, Ashok Kumar and Khalid Najeeb Suherwordy. The Chief Minister also received brief about the Baglihar Electro Hydro Project-II (BHEP-II) at a presentation meeting. He also inspected various units of BHEP-I.

The elections are drawing near, so get ready for polls and elect only those who have a clean image,” Senior Abdullah said. According to KNS, NC Patron lashed out at PDP and its patron Mufti Mohammad Syed and said that the party (PDP) was formed with the only purpose of weakening the National Conference in the state. “they are meant for the negative politics and that is exactly what they are doing in the state.” Farooq said with an apparent reference to PDP.

that people in Kashmir would one day suffer heavily. “When Shiekh started his Movement, it were people of Kashmir who suffered heavily. Shiekh was aware about the shortcomings and his only motive was to provide Kashmir people a respectable status,” he said. He said Kashmir was a paradise but the Freedom Struggle started here by some disgruntled persons brought misery to the people of Kashmir. “My father had once aptly remarked that one day this nation would suffer and today I think he was correct,” he said. He said that Kashmiri people are unpredictable who never follow the same path. “These people are not reliable. They change their seats like clothes. They never stick to one principle and stand,” he said adding that time is changing and now communalism has becoming a threat to peace. “I foresee that communalism would engulf this nation one day. We have to come forward to make sure that people don’t get divided on religious lines. There is need for unity and we all have to work for it,” he said. Historian Fida Mohammad Hasnain and Prof Mohammad Amin Wani also paid rich tributes to late Shiekh Mohammad Abdullah. Assembly Elections would be rigged again. I tell you with authority that there would have been no militancy if elections would have not have been rigged once and again. JDU President said that funds that are being made available to the State by the Central Government are being misused. “Huge chunk of funds go to the pockets of elite political and administrative class. These political leaders have amassed so much wealth that even remaining outside Power, they could enjoy to their fullest. What a common Kashmir can do in such circumstances. Kashmiri people were known as peace lovers, but we must ponder over this fact that what made people of Kashmir so violent and why there is disturbance here,” he said. Sharad Yadav said that any political party enjoying power should take concrete measures to relieve people of Kashmir from all the miseries and oppression. “If we would come to power, I promise to the people of Kashmir that Army would be sent back to barracks and police would be made toothless,” he said.

Isolation-The silent killer
T
here is one Punjabi saying“God may not even leave a tree alone” It is a fact that lone trees in desert dry up soon than the one's in dense forest. If it is the case of a tree then how can a man live all alone as by nature he is a social animal. During lifetime we experience problems at one stage or the other. Those are the critical moments, we need supporting system to share adversities and emotional crisis. The joint family system used to tackle such kind of problems very smoothly. Man was not left to face the gust of violent winds which would snatch away all his treasures of emotions with it. But in modern times, the nuclear family system has left everybody in lurch. The working couple has to go through a strenuous routine in order to run the family. They become machines to coup with the fast and lonely lives unable to give proper attention and care to their children which they need most. Consequently, the children too adjust themselves according to the present environment and remain aloof which makes them an Island in themselves. Being depressed, they do not move out, mix with friends or play outdoor games. Instead they shut themselves within the four walls of the house. With the advent of technology, they confine themselves to computers and play games using few buttons. They cannot attain the thrill and spirit of outdoor games. Face to face interaction is must for healthy growth of children. But today the children engrossed in their own fantasy world either sleep for hours together or love to live in confined area which they name comfort zone. This kind of life style is making them depressed and lazy. Social connectivity gives us strength to face any kind of adverse situation as friendship bonds are thicker than the relations. Studies have proved that the cancer patients having friends, peer group or relations, survive for a longer period than the one's who have not friends or relations, feel dim, dejected, unwanted, crib and curse suffer from delusion, hallucination and die soon. These days minor children or adolescents are suffering from adopted isolation which they have created themselves. The old generation too are also facing the same problem. During the last two decades, tremendous changes took place which forced young generation to move out of valley for earning their livelihood. The old parents were left alone in sprawling bungalows with pain beyond expression. But they survived with the support of neighbourhood or friends and relations. For social connectivity, there ought to be nearby public libraries, recreation clubs, parks or the old homes where these old people can sit together and feel the bonds of friendship. However lack of such facilities leave them to live in isolation and die in isolation.

SUNDERBANI- A GROWTH CENTRE OF RAJOURI K.D Maini
Before 1947, there was no place under the name of Sunderbani. Present Sunderbani area was known as "Bhajwal Jagir". The area of present township was uninhabited and there was nothing except bushes. Only one Haveli of Rai Ghulam Hussain, the House of the Jagirdar of the area was existing on a mound which was known as Phulwari located on the upper side of present Sunderbani. Rai Ghulam Hussain the Jagirdar of Bhajwal was belonging to royal family of Jaral Raja of Rajouri. The cost of this jagir was Rs. 13500/-. Rai Ghulam Hussain was a very respectable person. Even Maharaja Hari Singh was giving him full honour. Number of times, Maharaja had invited him to Srinagar and kept him as a state guest. He was also given a seat in the Kashmir Darbar by MaharajaHari Singh. In response to the Maharaja's kind behaviour, Rai Ghulam Hussain was every time presenting a horse to his highness whenever he was visiting Srinagar. Maharaja Hari Singh had also designated him as the Magistrate of Bhajwal jagir and he was empowered to fine upto Rs.50/- apart from settling other normal cases. He was conducting courts/kacharies also in a open ground near present Forest office Sunderbani. After the happenings of 1947, a number of migrants from Pak occupied Kashmir especially from Southern Poonch area came here and constructed their huts at this very place which was vacant at that time and belonged to nobody because Rai Ghulam Hussain had already left for Pakistan. On the other hand, when the Jammu-Poonch road was opened, this place became the centre between Rajouri and Jammu and a need arose for tea-stalls and shops for the passengers where fast food could be available. To meet this
requirement, a local habitant Pt. Sita Ram constructed a small hut near present Bus Stand and started tea-stall as well as a grocery shop. Initially, this shop remained catering to the needs of passengers and the migrants who had settled in this hamlet. By this way, the other people also got encouraged and started their shops, dhabas, tea-stalls, Dawakhanas etc and so a small township emerged. Then the buses started stopping at this very place for the refreshment of the passengers. At that time, there was a spring located near the township known as "Sunderban". Therefore, Pt. Sita Ram and other habitants decided to call this place as "Sunderbani" where the present township is existing and so this name started getting popularity day-by- day. Later on, this name was adopted in the official records also and now, nobody knows about the original name of the area. Before 1947, there was another township near Sunderbani under the name of "Channi Parat" which was 15 kms from this township on the Northern side. But now there are only ruins at site and the township has disappeared. It is said that this township was knwon as "Prat". This was a small township consisting of 75 houses and 45 shops mostly of Gold Smiths, Grocery, Shoe Makers etc. and there was a Sarafa Bazar also. It was a Niabat Headquarter. A Primary School, a Gurudwara, a Mosque and a Historic Temple was existing in the township. This township was linked to Reasi with a Kachha road. Basically, the meaning of Parat is the mound of stone or a place which is having more stones than the clay. The township was located on a mound and on elevated place from where during the night time, the moon was appearing in a very attractive appearance. Therefore, the people annexed the word "Channi"
with the name of "Parat" and the township was known as "Channi Parat". There was a great hustle bustle in this township before 1947, because this was the only township in between Jammu, Rajouri and Reasi where the traders and other passengers were halting for a night while going to Jammu, Reasi or Rajouri. By this way, this place was the camping station for the travellers also. But during the happenings of 1947, the original habitants i.e. the business community of this township was threatened and attacked by the infiltrators, therefore, the habitants of the township were compelled to leave their native places and they migrated to the safer zones because this township was surrounded by the forest from all the sides and there was a security threat to the people during 1947-48. During 1947-48 when the Indian Army started operation for liberation of Rajouri and linkage of besieged city "Poonch" with the rest of the country, they constructed a motorable road from Jammu towards Rajouri firstly via Seri and then via Thanda Pani. This high-way was not touching Channi Parat township but it was passing from 15 kms away through the village "Bhajwal" (present Sunderbani). In these circumstances, the importance of this township vanished and the original habitants left the idea of settling again in this township. With the opening of new road from Jammu to Rajouri and Poonch during 1947-48, there was a need of a station between Rajouri and Jammu where the passengers could relax and take fast food during transit hours. This need was fulfilled by the village Bhajwal (presently known as Sunderbani). After 1947, Sunderbani remained the Headquarter of Tehsil Nowshera for some time. Lateron, this Headquarter was shifted, to Nowshera and Sunderbani
became the Niabat Headquarter. Before 1947, this area was a part of Bhimber Tehsil. In 1980, Sunderbani emerged as new Tehsil. Tehsil Sunderbani is comprises of 42 villages and it is the smallest Tehsil of District Rajouri in area. Tehsil Sunderbani includes the jagir of Rai Ghulam Hussain i.e. Bhajwal, the jagir of Shri Jagat Ram i.e. Thandapani, Thakar Basant Singh of Bakher and Nar Singh of Devak. Presently, the area of Tehsil is 82401 acres and population is about 42000. There is an ancient temple known as "Channi Parat Temple" existing near the old deserted township Channi Parat. It is a two-storeys temple, unique in its construction in the area and resembling with the architecture of those temples which were constructed during Maharaja Partap Singh's time in Jammu and Kashmir. It is said that a Sadhu had brought the design of this temple from Varanasi and with the help of Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, he constructed this temple near Channi Parat township. Presently, the temple is intact. The idols of Ram, Sita and Lakshman are installed in the temple. The walls of the temple are full of beautiful paintings of Krishna's with Gopies apart from the Darbars of the Rajas. One painting of Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj is also available on the walls of the temple. The temple is about 15 kms from Sunderbani. Two melas are organized at this temple on 7th February and 7th June every year. People organise Havan, Yagya for the prosperity of the mankind. Presently, the temple is located on Solki road. It is existing in a solitary place because the old Channi Parat township has been deserted and there are only ruins at site at present.
Measures to Check Cheating of investors by Unscrupulous Companies
C
heating of investors by unscrupulous companies takes many forms, such as: ‘vanishing’ after raising money through public offers; illegal collection of deposits in violation of Section 58A of the Companies Act, 1956; floating sham ‘Collective Investment Schemes (CIS)’ in violation of SEBI Act; collecting money from public by posing as ‘Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) in violation of RBI Act; and resorting to ‘Ponzy’ or money circulation schemes under the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has taken action against ‘vanishing companies’ which have raised funds through initial public offer but thereafter are not traceable. The Ministry has also taken action against certain companies which have failed to repay deposits to public violating Section 58A of the Companies Act, 1956. Speed eaters beat their body's signalkeepers by wolfing it down. To make matters worse, unchewed food particles are not welcome in your stomach.
We Mumbaikars fly through our lives fighting time. Among other compromises, this often translates into limited time for meals, and thereby little or no time for that most overlooked ritual: Chewing. Our fascination or obsession with what to eat has drowned out this equally important facet of nutrition. When Mahatma Gandhi said - Chew your drink and drink your food - he was stressing on the scientifically proven benefits of chewing. How it works A series of recent studies conducted on chewing have established a few facts beyond an intimate connection between chewing and weight control. Speed eating, gorging and binge eating were found to majorly contribute to unhealthy weight gain. The studies confirmed chewing every mouthful for longer helps you lose weight because it allows your brain more time to receive signals from the stomach that it's full. Therefore, the slower you chew, the lesser you eat. Besides, when you chew thoroughly, your digestive system is told of incoming food. This triggers it to produce digestive acids and help the body absorb nutrients. Inadequately digested food means inadequate absorption of nutrients, which is like paying for gourmet chocolates but getting a toffee. The leptin, ghrelin and cholestokinnen hormones, which are responsible for signaling satiation, don't reach their peak until 20 to 40 minutes after food is ingested.
Sloppily chewed food promotes intestinal bacteria, causing flatulence, bloating, constipation, stomach ache, cramps and even diarrhea. Nutritionist Naini Setalvad, who considers correct chewing as the first mantra of healthy eating, faults parents for inculcating the gulping-down habit. "Mothers keep telling their children to finish what's on their plates fast so to catch the school bus, classes or anything. The most common refrain is 'Jaldi karo... why are you taking so long to eat?' Our health entirely depends on what we eat and how well our body absorbs it. Incomplete chewing ruins the digestion process and leads to irritable bowel syndrome and flatulence, among other problems." Where it starts Digestion begins in your mouth. Efficient chewing increases the surface area of foods, affording a thorough breakdown by enzymes.
Saliva also contains lingual lipase, a fat metabolising enzyme, which breaks down fat before it reaches the stomach. If the fat reached the stomach inadequately chewed,
brace yourself for digestion problems. The longer your food stays in touch with your saliva, the better it gets lubricated and lesser the stress on your esophagus. Even digesting carbohydrates starts with chewing right as your saliva detaches chemical bonds that connect the starchcontaining simple sugars. When you don't chew well, these enzymes can't break down starches or digest fats, inducing sluggishness and loss of energy. Setalvad says, "Almost everyone who comes to me does not chew their food properly. The first thing I do to ensure they chew well is to add a salad or raw vegetables to their meals. I know if they aren't chewing properly when they return with constipation or irritable bowel syndrome." Pleasure principle Rushing through a meal bars you from enjoying it to its maximum, leading to a sense of dissatisfaction. Mindful eating is about
The heat wave is damaging enough for anybody, but if you’re diabetic then you need to be twice as cautious. Diabetologist Sonali Patange says, “The metabolic rate among diabetics is high because of which they sweat a lot and feel constantly hungry. This gets aggravated in the summer. But if they take a few precautionary measures, they can breeze through the excruciating heat.” Skincare People suffering from uncontrolled diabetes are easily susceptible to various skin infections such as carbuncles, boils, abscesses, furuncles, which range in severity. Patange says, “Also, because of excessive sweating, most diabetic men tend to develop candidiasis around their groin. Women, on the other hand, are prone to urinary tract infection.”But these skin issues can be nipped in the bud by taking simple precautionary measures. Take a bath twice a day as it
can prevent bacteria from growing on the skin. Avoid synthetic clothing and stick to only lose breathable cotton clothes. “But most importantly, maintain proper blood glucose level through diet, exercise and correct medication. People with uncontrolled diabetes can even catch respiratory infection very easily,” says Patange. Foot care Those with long-standing diabetes mellitus are predisposed to foot injury, ulceration and infection because they have poor glycaemic control, especially in adverse temperatures (extreme cold or heat). So diabetics must pay special attention to their feet and beware of developing interdigital foot infection or cellulite. Patange says, “Air your legs as much as you can and always ensure that you wash your feet, dry and regularly examine them.” Dehydration As diabetes leads to an increase in the body’s excretion of urine when blood sugar rises, most diabetics fail to maintain adequate level of hydration in hot weather. The humidity also causes the body to sweat. Extreme sweating can result in dehydration. If the condition persists, then dehydration can

experiencing food more intensely - especially the pleasure of it - and chewing plays the protagonist in this show. We live to eat, or at least we live because we eat. So good food assiduously chewed for a good time will ensure that you'll love your food the most it can be loved. Fletcherisma An American healthfood guru of the late 1800s, Horace Fletcher, was known as 'The Great Masticator'. He recommended chewing food at least once for every tooth or 32 times per mouthful before swallowing. Fletcher, who would chew a morsel 100 times a minute before swallowing, believed that his method held the secret to unlocking hidden strengths. Fletcher's war-cry was 'Nature will castigate those who don't masticate' and he acquired a legendary status with his set of experiments at the Yale Gymnasium. At 58, he competed with college students in exacting tests of strength and endurance such as deep-knee bending, holding out arms horizontally for a length of time, and calfraises on an intricate machine - and beat the Yale athletes in all events. Fletcher attributed his feat to studious grinding and gnawing. - Mash slowly and steadily. - Keep the ambience relaxed rather than loud or distracting. That means no sitting in front of the TV. - Eat smaller morsels; smaller the bites, the better you will chew. - Stop only when the mouthful is totally liquid and has lost its texture. - Take another bite only when you have finished chewing completely and swallowed. - Drink water or fluids only after your mouth is empty.
This is a salad lover's delight! Thinly cut strips of purple cabbage with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar or Greek olive oil can create a fun, healthy dish. Purple cabbage is also pickled and added to stir-fries! Health benefit: Cabbage is a great store of vitamin C and vitamin K. The rich deep colour of this vegetable is due to a high concentration of anthocyanin polyphenols (strong dietary antioxidants, possessing anti-inflammatory properties), making it have even more phytonutrients than a green cabbage. A few studies also show that anthocyanins may help reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and certain types of cancer. It is rich in anti-oxidants which makes skin supple and clear. How to store: Keep the purple cabbage in a plastic bag and place it in the refrigerator. It will stay fresh for up to two weeks. Sweet and Sour Cabbage Ingredients: Purple cabbage, thinly sliced: About 8 cups Butter: 2 tbsp Sugar: 3 tbsp Balsamic vinegar: 1/4 cup Sultanas and pine nuts: A handful Method: Take a large saucepan and melt the butter in it. Now, add the cabbage and saute this for a few minutes. Sprinkle the sugar and add the vinegar. Reduce heat and simmer for a few minutes. Take off the heat, season, add the sultanas and nuts. Serve.
Vitamin D: Vital for a heAlthy
ChIlDhooD
Vitamin D: Vital for a healthy childhoodLack of vitamin D hinders calcium absorption resulting in poor bone health and overall development Does your child shun the sun? Does your child suffer from any milk allergy? Is your family strictly vegetarian? Well, your child could run the risk of suffering from vitamin D deficiency. Why does your child require vitamin D? This is an important vitamin for the strong development of bones. Research has revealed its importance in protecting the body against several health problems. What is vitamin D? Vitamin D is a steroid vitamin, a group of fat-soluble prohormones, which encourages the absorption and metabolism of calcium and phosphorous in the body. In other words, it is an organic compound required as a vital nutrient in tiny amounts by us. It is nicknamed the 'Sunshine Vitamin' because Vitamin D is produced by the body through exposure to sunlight. While this is common knowledge amongst most mothers, as per a survey conducted by reputed market research agency Ipsos Research, what is not known is that it can be obtained from food sources and supplements as well. In fact, there are products in the market now like Cadbury Bournvita that come with Vitamin D specially added to it.Vitamin D is crucial to health as it is essential for the absorption of calcium from plain milk. However, as per the survey conducted by Ipsos, over 50 per cent of the mothers who were spoken to were unaware of this benefit of Vitamin D. What happens if we have less vitamin D? In most children and even adults, vitamin D deficiency does not show up for years. It has no initial symptoms. "Difficulty in waking up early, irritability and tooth decay are some of the early signs you should watch out for," says leading physician and dermatologist, Dr Apratim Goel. Apart from these symptoms, if your child is prone to infections, especially respiratory ones and complains of muscle cramps, breathing difficulties and seizures.
Mystery of kidney stone solved
diabetics, watch out this summer! The season can give diabetics, skin and foot infections, bad breath and excessive sweating. Here’s how they can avoid these and breeze through the months

lead to a dry mouth, reduced sweating, and a decrease in urine output. “If the patients are not taking enough water, this will cause the water composition in the blood to reduce and will produce ketones. This will lead to bad breath and can be aggravated through dehydration,” says Patange. In severe cases, dehydration can result in damage to the brain and other organs. Drinking plenty of water is enough to counterbalance the mild dehydration that occurs when you’re outside in the summer heat. If sodium and other electrolytes are lost through prolonged or heavy exercise, they must be replaced. Staying well-hydrated can help prevent fluctuations in blood glucose levels as well as heatrelated complications such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke. So drink adequate water, but steer clear of aerated drinks, fruit juices, alcohol and caffeine. Chaas and nimbu paani are safe options. Exercise is an essential part of the management of type 2 diabetes. Most people continue to indulge in outdoor activities even when it’s hot outside, which may again lead to dehydration. In this weather, it’s a good idea to try swimming and yoga.
A new study has provided evidence to explain why some people are more prone to developing kidney stones than others. The discovery by scientists at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis opens the door to finding effective drug treatments and a test that could assess a person’s risk of kidney stones. “Now, we finally have a more complete picture detailing why some people develop kidney stones and others do not,” said senior author Jianghui Hou, PhD, assistant professor of medicine. “With this information, we can begin to think about better treatments and ways to determine a person’s risk of the condition, which typically increases with age,” Hou stated. The research was conducted in mice. Because kidneys function the same way in mice as in humans, the new findings can help scientists understand the root causes of kidney stones
in patients. The mouse model used in the study can also serve as a platform for the preclinical testing of novel treatments for the condition, the researchers noted. Most kidney stones form when the urine becomes too concentrated,
allowing minerals like calcium to crystallize and stick together. Diet plays a role in the condition - not drinking enough water or eating too much salt (which binds to calcium) also increases the risk of stones. But genes are partly to blame. A common genetic variation in a gene
Is binge eating a Mental disorder?
A
ccording to the latest draft of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) in the American Psychiatric Association (APA), binge eating is a mental disorder. Health professionals refer to this document to conclude whether an individual is suffering from a mental disorder or not. In the manual, binge eating shares place with grave medical conditions such as
substance-related disorders, sleep disorders and anxiety disorders. But does this mean that if you chug cheese burgers, you are suffering from a clinical eating disorder? Let's find out... Binge eating depicts a lack of control over one’s eating habits, a feeling where one has no control over how much or how many times one is eating. The top characteristics which distinguish binge eating from normal eating are: •Eating food much more quickly than normal. •Eating food until feeling awkwardly full. •Consuming large amounts of food when not feeling hungry. •Consuming food in a separate room, or in isolation so as not to feel embarrassed by the quantity or style of eating. •A binge eater tends to feel very appalled with oneself. A deep feeling
of depression or guilt lingers on after the completion of an eating spree. Here are a few tried and tested ways to avoid binge eating: •Distract yourself from the food and indulge in an activity you love. Rush for a warm water bath when you think food is overpowering you. Go for a nice chocolate pedicure session or may be light some nice scented candles in your room and play some light music rather than eating. •In other times, you might find this a tad bit boring, but sip small amounts of water whenever you feel you are in the mood to indulge. •Always choose healthy food and drink. Ensure that something healthy is always available to you, like a glass of milk, whole grain pasta, reduced fat cheddar cheese, eggs, lean meats, fruits and vegetables. These good foods will encourage fullness by keeping you
energized all throughout the day. •Trick your mind into eating something that is healthy in the middle of your binge. For example, if you start by munching on a handful of cookies, gather the strength to add a pear and nut butter in between your cookie eating act. This will switch things in your mind for a bit and will ultimately keep binge eating at bay. •In the end, have a backup plan. Binge eating is normal. We all do it sometimes. Once a binge begins, it is difficult to control it, so stay away from triggers and avoid that in-between compulsive bite. If your top four weaknesses in food are pizza, ice cream, deep fried snacks and chocolates, here's how to deal with them in a healthy way: •Pizza: Go for healthy topping pizza such as healthy eggplant pizza recipe and healthy mushroom and gouda pizza recipe.
•Ice cream: Who doesn’t love ice cream? Made from dairy products, artificial preservatives and white sugar, they only wreck your weight loss plans. Go for healthy probiotic varieties which are made using skimmed milk and light sugar substitutes. •Deep fried snacks: Replace deep friend evening or mid-morning deep fried snack temptations by eating roasted vegetables, roasted moong dal, roasted or boiled tangy channa, plain murmura. •Chocolates: Often considered healthy, too much of this deadly sin is sure to show on the luxury of your waistline. Go for dark varieties of chocolate if you want to eat one as it helps in lowering blood pressure by improving your concentration levels. Replace sweet temptations with healthy yogurt recipes, which are not only healthy but will satisfy your sweet tooth too.
called claudin-14 recently has been linked to a substantial increase in risk roughly 65 per cent - of getting kidney stones. In the new study, the researchers have shown how alterations in the gene’s activity influence the development of stones. Typically, the claudin-14 gene is not active in the kidney. The new research shows that its expression is dampened by two snippets of RNA, a sister molecule of DNA, that essentially silence the gene. When claudin-14 is idled, the kidney’s filtering system works like it’s supposed to. Essential minerals in the blood like calcium and magnesium pass through the kidneys and are reabsorbed back into the blood, where they are transported to cells to carry out basic functions of life. But when people eat a diet high in calcium or salt and don’t drink enough water, the small RNA molecules release their hold on claudin 14. An increase in the gene’s activity prevents calcium from re-entering the blood, the study showed.
early cancer detection is the key If you think you are too young to be afflicted by cancer of the colon and rectum, here's some expert advice - Colon cancer can strike anyone. A check-up to detect colorectal cancer can diagnose early symptomless cancers - or even precancers when they are in highly curable stages. Here's a list of risk factorsEnvironment : The incidence of the disease is much greater in industrialized countries. Family History : The risk of developing colorectal cancer is greater if there is a history of cancer incidence in close relatives (parents, children or siblings) Age : Beginning at age 50.Preventive measures Early-detection test : Don't delay getting the screening test. Estrogen Replacement
Therapy (ERT): Women who take ERT to alleviate symptoms of menopause may have a significantly lower risk of fatal colon cancer. Take your physician's advice before getting it done. Aspirin : People taking an aspirin every other day for 20 years may cut the risk of colon cancer almost in half, according to a study published in The New England Journal of Medicine. However, consult a doctor before taking any medication. Exercise and Weight Control : The risk of developing colon cancer may be lower inwomen who enjoy regular physical activity and avoid obesity.Eating Habits : Research suggests that eating low-fat, high-fiber foods would help lower the chances of developing colon cancer.
