The Chief Minister said that the society and democracy stand on four important pillars of legislature, judiciary, executive and media. He said all are equally responsible to build principle based society where justice, rule of law and inclusive development will be the guiding principle for all. In reply to another question, Omar Abdullah said that his government has created so many opportunities for youth to take up self employment ventures and be members of the MSME sector. “Investors from outside have not shown encouraging trend to venture in the State. However, we have created good opportunities for our educated, skilled and trained youth to generate employment and economic activities not only for themselves but others”, he said and mentioned the unique employment generation and skill up gradation programmes of Himayat and Udaan launched in the State to expand job market for J&K youth. the voting rights of the four nominated members of the council. He said the voters of the party and the National Conference itself has offered a huge sacrifice for the sake of coalition government in the state but added that all eyed would be on the congress how it delivers. “We accepted the party high command decision and allowed congress to form the council despite of having an absolute majority. We would now hope Congress to deliver according to the aspirations of the people of Kargil.” Akhoon added. He further said that even the people of the kargil area would be keeping a close eye on the performance of the council. He however evaded a direct answer whether National conference would withdraw its support incase council did not perform as per the expectations of NC and its voters. “Definitely people would keep a close eye on the performance of the council. Let’s wait and see how it performs.” said Akhoon. Pertinently the relations between the two allies were affected after National conference staked the claim to the council despite congress having already done the same. The things had gone bad to worse when the NC councilors defied the party high command directives of allowing congress to form the council forcing Chief Minster omar Abdullah to end his close aids rural Development Minister Ali Mohamamd Sagar and NC Provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani to Kargil for the damage control. However it was only in the coordination committee that the leaders of both the parties were able to break the deadlock which paved way for the Congress to head the council.

the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Monday said the government has not been able to take even the initial mandatory steps for investigating the matter. Mehbooba said life has become impossible in Shopian, Kulgam and Pulwama areas, especially in Shopian, where people are raising their voice for justice. And, the government, instead of taking any action on it, is punishing the entire people by uninterrupted curfew and restrictions. She
said the essential commodities are running out in those areas and access to medical facilities is impossible. She said, she was detained while on her way to Shopian which is represented by her and her party in the assembly. "And, now her movement to other places too, has been restricted as her vehicles are not allowed to report for fear of her going to Shopian, even though she had intended to go somewhere else." Mehbooba said the ruling coalition, having foreseen a rout in the coming elections, is trying to ensure minimum participation of people in them, so that they could benefit in the rural areas also, as they are doing in Srinagar and other urban centres.

Communal violencedestroying secular character of the country
T
he communal riots in Muzaffarnagar have once again exposed the weak law and order machinery and the approach of certain officers to handle the situation effectively and in an unbiased manner. The situation in Muzaffarnagar could have been tackled in a better way and the high death toll could have been avoided if the district administration would have acted promptly and effectively in an unbiased manner. The minority community in the country has to be taken on board and the confidence which they lack after such incidents has to be restored so that the secular character of the country provided by the constitution is protected. The visit of the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi to Muzaffarnagar is a strong attempt in restoring confidence of the minority community. The minority community must have felt some relief after the arrival of VVIPs who announced that severe action will be taken against the perpetrators of communal violence and those who murdered the innocent people in Muzaffarnagar. The secular character of our constitution demands that every citizen, politician, persons of influence, intellectuals and media should rise to the occasion and join hands to fight the communal forces who are bent upon to destroy the very foundation of our secular country. Gone are the days when political parties used to raise communal passions for winning the elections. Now the people of this country realize these political gimmicks and also the game plans of communal forces who are in search of opportunities to cash the communal frenzies for their vested interested. The media of this country is also very sensitive and it also plays sincere role to diffuse the situations created by communal forces in different parts of the country. No doubt some incidents do happen and there are some blacksheeps in media too which flare up the situations, but most of the media is always against the communal forces and without any delay they oppose them tooth and nail. It is our duty to discourage communal forces and defeat their designs. But the people alone cannot do whatever is needed. It needs a strong govt. at the centre and also in the states to come with a heavy hand on the communal forces and save the nation from humiliations which it has to face on international level after these ugly and gory incidents. On international level the nations look down upon those countries were communal tendencies are active and communal riots break out oftenly. The Prime Minister and Congress President have sent positive signals by visiting Muzaffarnagar and now other politicians should follow the suit so that Muzaffarnagar is not repeated anywhere in the country and innocent people do not loose their precious lives.

GUJJARS & BAKERWALS K.D Maini
In Rajouri District about 12% population is comprised of Bakerwals while 23% population belongs to Gujjars. Both the communities are having their common cultural and linguistic heritage. Gujjars mostly rear cattle and they are herdsmen of buffaloes and possess small pieces of lands, kacha houses on the slopes and foothills of mountains in Rajouri District. Number of them are having their Dhokes and Dharas (Huts) on the upper reaches of Rajouri district mostly in Darhal, Budhal, Kalakote and Manjakote area. On the other hand, bakerwals are the off-shoots of Gujjars and they are nomadic tribes. Most of them are landless and houseless. Their livelihood is mostly dependent upon rearing of sheep and goat. In search of green pastures for their herds and flocks, they travel from one place to another with their baggage and luggage, flock of sheep and goats, fleet of horses and dogs, initially, they were rearing goats, therefore they are known as Bakerwals (who rear goats). They are living nomadic life and remain wondering in jungle in their traditional dresses with their own cultural heritage which is a distinct and unique culture. Once Pt. Jawahar Lai Nehru when he was at Pehalgam and saw a group of Bakerwals along with their luggage and baggages, he atonce named them as the king of jungles. When the old-age bakerwals having white long beards in traditional dresses with old style lungi (turban) on their head, travel on a horse in the forest area along with their relative supports, horses, cattle and other goods, they really looked like the kings of ancient times. The past history of bakerwals is the same as that of gujjars. Some historians believe that they are the original habitants of India, while the other school of thought says that they originally belong to Central Asia and are the part of Sathian (Uchi) tribes. Due to the disturbance in Central Asia, they migrated to India in between 3rd to 6th Century AD through Bolan Pass and Ko-Suleman Range. From the 8th Century onward to 17th Century AD, they established their own kingdoms in India. They were known with different names from time to time like GURJARA, KHARZERE, KHZAR, GOJJAR AND GUJJAR. Again there are two opinions regarding entrance of Gujjars and Bakerwals in J&K especially in Rajouri District. Some historians say that they started pouring in Kashmir after 8th Century AD from Gujarat side while the other school of historians narrate that they came to J&K
from Gujarat with the caravans of Mughals and settled along the Mughal road once for all. Since most part of the Mughal road falls in Rajouri District from Nowshera to PeerPanchal pass, therefore, most of the Gujjar and Bakerwals settled in Rajouri apart from Poonch. No doubt that these caravans spread all over the state but even at this time also, their main concentration is alongside the Mughal road. In Rajouri District, the total population of Gujjars and Bakerwals is 35% Now the question arises that how the Bakerwal tribes of Rajouri came in to existence. Rana Ali Hassan Chauhan, the Author of Tarikh-e-Gujjar writes in his book that when the gujjar strengthened their position in Kashmir, they tried to revolt against Mughals in the beginning of 17th Century under the command of Ahmed Sultan Gujjar. Rana Ali Hassan wrote that in 1618 AD, a young and energetic Gujjar Ahmed Sultan started thinking of establishing his own kingdom in Kashmir and Rajouri-Poonch area. He visited each and every village of Rajouri and Poonch and Kashmir also in the winter of 1618 AD and motivated the people to revolt against the Mughal regime in Kashmir. He narrated atrocities and cruelties of Mughals in such a manner that people started coming under his leadership. By this way, in the winter of 1618 AD, he remained busy in preparing himself against Mughals. In the spring of 1619 AD, wh en Emperor Jahangir alongwith his Shahi caravan moved from Lahore towards Kashmir and tried to enter Kashmir as usual through Mughal road, he was forcefully stopped by Ahmed Sultan Gujjar who was having a contingent of 40000 soldiers with him at Peer-Panchal pass. He sent message to Mughal Emperor to fight or go back. Keeping in view the strong position of Ahmed Sultan Gujjar, Emperor Jahangir ordered his caravan to return to Lahore. When Jahangir returned to Lahore without entering Kashmir. Ahmed Sultan Gujjar declared himself as the Ruler of Kashmir, this position was not acceptable to Mughal Emperor. Therefore, in 1620 AD, Jahangir started his journey towards Kashmir with big force. Again Ahmed Sultan Gujjar appeared in Rattan Peer and Peer Panchal pass. But this time, he was having contingent of only 20000 soldiers. On the other hand, Jahangir had come with full preparation. Therefore, after heavy fighting between the forces of Mughals and Gujjars, Jahangir gave crushing defeat to Ahmed Sultan. Majority of Gujjar soldiers were slaughtered and after killing the majority of Ahmed Sultan's soldiers Jahangir entered Kashmir. He was
so annoyed, furious and revengeful that after reaching Srinagar, he passed orders for slaughtering this community & confiscating the property of Gujjars. Due to these circumstances, the remaining Gujjars were so harassed and frightened that they left their native places, houses, villages and towns and took shelter on the upper hills of Peer Panchal Range to escape and protect themselves from the atrocities of Mughal army. Though they took shelter on the upper hills of Panchal range but even then, they continued shifting from one place to another due to the terror of Mughal soldiers. The only property they could have with them was the live stock like sheep, goats and horses because these could easily be shifted from one place to another. Moreover, these animals were able to bear the cold climatic condition of high altitudes. Therefore, gujjars took shelter on Peer Panchal range, majority of them were rearing goat and this profession was the main source of their livelihood. Thus they were renamed as Bakerwals. In these days, these bakerwal tribes can be seen wondering in the foot-hills of Peer Panchal range mostly in Rajouri area which is located in the foot hills of Panchal range. In winter season, with the beginning of spring, they shift from Rajouri area and enter the Margs, Lush Green high pastures and Dhokes in upper reaches of Panchal range. Some caravans of Bakerwals of Rajouri district even cross the Valley and reach Lolab, Gurez and Sona Marg on the Eastern top hills of Kashmir. They keep with them horses for riding and transportation, sheep and goat for production of wool, milk and meat. They sell surplus animals and their subsidiary products and buy maize, rice and grocery from the villages for day-to-day consumption. These tribes travel on compact basis with their baggage, flock of sheep, herd of goat, fleet of horses and dogs. The old tribe-man is generally known as Sardar who leads the caravans. He travel on a mule. After him follow the horses, ladies and children, flocks of sheep and goat and hunting dogs who protect animals from thieves and wild animals. They keep tents with them and live in tented colonies. But their life is very tough and some time they live even in the caves or under the shadow of trees. When they enter the Margs and Dhokes, they look like actual ruler of the area because no law and order authority prevails in these Margs. Their favourite dresses are waist Goat, shalwar, Kurta (long shirt) and lungi (turban) while the women usually bear Sutthan (trouser) kurti (shirt) and Tazakastani cap with cotton shawl. These
tribes are very stout, tough and beautiful. The women are hard working. Their hobbies are to conduct fighting of rams and goats. So far as music is concerned, they like Halgoza and jori. Their main folk songs are Chann, Mahia, Dholan, Kanchi and Saif-ul-Malook. One of their favourite folk song is ballad of Noora a worrior. They sing these songs while grazing their flocks in the pastures. They are found of Gur. They like the feast of rice with curd and sugar. They speak Gojri language. They are brave hospitable and state forward people. They have their own courts for justice known as kachehries or jirgas. They live natural life and are dependent on those products which are available on these high pasture altitudes. In the past, very little work has been done for the betterment of this tribe. But from 1975 onward when Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah took over the power in J&K State, serious efforts have been made by the State Government to eradicate illiteracy and poverty and to bring this nomadic tribe in the main stream by providing them means of livelihood. These nomadic tribes have been provided plots free of cost for construction of their houses, subsidy for construction purposes, shops in the cities and towns for starting business, hotels and industrial facilities. Their children have been provided free meal, books and uniforms in the Hostels constructed at District Headquarters including Rajouri. Mobile schools have also been opened which travel from one place to another along with these tribes in the Dhokes and pastures to educate their children. This tribe has been declared Scheduled Tribe (ST) and now there is 8% reservation in State Government services for Bakerwals and Gujjars. Under Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP), income generating units of nomadic tribes are being established. A separate cell in Cultural Academy is working for the promotion of Gojri language. This section is also preserving the traditional cultural and historical heritage of Gujjars and Bakerwals including Rajouri District. Under Special Central Assistance to Tribal Sub-Plan (SCA to TSP), lot of works have been done for the betterment of these tribes in Rajouri District. Number of Basties have been connected with roads, shelter sheds, community centres and land levelling works have also been done apart from Beneficiary Oriented Schemes. By this way, 35% population of Gujjar and Bakerwal tribe in Rajouri district has been brought on the path of development.

The bill, aimed at To prevent builders from diverting funds regulating the sector which is beset with multiple problems, is therefore a collected for one project to other projects welcome step which has been long overdue. The bill provides that the builder whose the bill provides that 70 percent of the project is coming up on an area of 1000 Sq. metres or more will have to register funds raised for a particular project have with the regulator. There are also cost overruns and often inordinate delays in handing over the dwelling units to the consumers. misleading advertisement will lead to in a different account and used for the Besides, there are hidden costs which the imposition of a penalty on the builder and if construction of that project only. All this, consumer comes to know only at the time the offence is repeated for the second time, indeed is going to bring transparency, of taking over the possession. Not the a jail term up to 3 years. The builder will accountability and professionalism to the least important is the confusion sought to have to put on his website all the relevant sector which will enhance its credibility and be created by the builders with regard to details about this. Similarly, in case of bring some relief to the house buyers. But the the unit area. Instead of mentioning the inordinate delay in handing over the question is whether this will be enough to carpet area--the actual area of a dwelling possession as per the agreement, the deal with the massive housing problem the unit which one uses-- the builders sell the builder will have to make full refund of the country is facing?
Two things need to be given immediate attention if the bill has to serve the desired purpose. First, since the clearances have to be given by various government agencies, it is important that they too are brought under its purview. Second, the regulator is proposed to be only for the housing sector. The commercial sector has been left out for the time being. One hopes that this sector too will be brought under the purview of the bill sooner than later. Alongside, steps need to be taken to reform the sector to meet the massive housing demand in the county. The land use provisions and Floor Space Index (FSI), need to be given a fresh look. Better land use is the need of the hour in view of the huge shortfall in the housing field. Single window system needs to be given a push to avoid delays. Growing urbanization, a growing middle class and migratory population is putting additional burden on the demand for housing in the country. It is therefore imperative that in addition to regulating the sector the supply side is also strengthened. Housing is one sector which gives a push to many other sectors like steel and iron, cement etc. It also generates employment at various levels. It thus plays a major role in the economic development, particularly at a time when the economy is facing a slowdown. The bill envisages a well structured grievance disposal system. There will be an Appellate Tribunal to adjudicate disputes which will be headed by a sitting or a retired judge. There will also be a National Advisory Council headed by the Housing minister to advise the regulator on crucial matters. That should take care of adopting a fair approach with regard to all stakeholders involved in the sector.

Sleeping pills don’t work for many poppers
Sleeping pills seldom worked for 40 per cent of the poppers who suffer from insomnia, says a survey of 20,000 people, according to a British study. Some 42 per cent of the patients currently on medication have been sleeping badly for over 11 years or more. A further 22 per cent had insomnia lasting two to five years, while one in six had suffered between six and 10 years, the survey revealed. Experts said the study suggested that sleeping pills were not combating longterm sleep problems and that cognitive behavioural therapy has been proven to
In a new study, researchers have shown that a mammal begins to suckle its mother’s milk through a learned response built on learning her unique combination of smells. When a mammal is born, it is exposed to the smell of its mother’s amniotic fluid and the baby then responds to those smells to feed. Prevailing thought has been that pheromones chemicals that trigger an innate behaviour - drove the suckling response as an automatic behaviour. The new work determines that, in mice, the smells must be learned before the behaviour can occur. Suckling is a critical step for survival in mammals, which are defined by giving birth to offspring that need to feed from their mother’s milk. The newborn must begin to feed soon after birth or it will die. It is a crucial, defining behaviour in mammals and offers researchers an opportunity to investigate the biology of instinct. Previous research into suckling has shown that European rabbit mothers use a pheromone to initiate suckling in their new-

born babies. This led most scientists to think that all mammals were likely to use the same mechanism. Keen to discover the pheromone involved in other mammals, the team chose the mouse because they have a parenting style similar to that of humans, nurturing and caring for their young. “We were expecting to find a pheromone controlling suckling in mice, but we found a completely different mechanism at work,” Dr Darren Logan, lead author of the study from Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, said. “We have shown for the first time that it is not a pheromone response in mice, but a learned response, founded on a mix of odours: the unique signature smell of the mother,” Logan said. To discover the smells involved in initiating suckling, the researchers introduced newborn mice delivered by Caesarean section to breasts that had been washed clean and then soaked in one of the fluids that a baby would first inhale at birth. These included amniotic
and lack of concentration. The survey also showed almost one in 10 with insomnia were on sleeping pills prescribed by their doctor, with one in five using over the counter remedies. American research this year found sleeping pills may significantly increase the risk of premature death. The latest survey was sponsored by Sleepio, an online sleep improvement programme which uses cognitive behavioural techniques. Andrew McCulloch, chief executive of the Mental Health Foundation, has campaigned for the NHS to highlight the importance of sleep.
fluid, the mother’s saliva, breast milk and urine. Only the breasts that smelt of the mother’s amniotic fluid initiated suckling. The team then tested for the presence of a pheromone in the amniotic fluid. They fed pregnant mice strong smelling foods, such as garlic, to change the signature odour of the mother. If a pheromone was involved, the garlic would have no effect on suckling. In fact only those mice that had previous exposure to the amniotic fluid with the strong smell from their mother were able to feed successfully, proving the signature odour must be learned. “Our work shows us that there is no species-wide pheromone that makes newborn mice feed, but that the mouse pups are actually learning their mother’s unique and variable mix of smells at birth,” Lisa Stowers, senior author from The Scripps Research Institute, said. “So, although the suckling response may look like a pheromone-mediated behaviour, it is actually initiated through a fundamentally different process,” she
Getting great skin is now within your reach without spending oodles of money in the parlour. Here are some food and beverages to help boost your skin’s vitality Cocoa: The bean has high levels of flavanols, plant compounds with antioxidant properties that help protect skin from sun damage. Apart from sipping it in the morning and evening you can also use it as a bath soak - add 1/8 cup ground cocoa powder and 1/3 cup fat-free dry milk in your bathtub. Curd: The calcium and phosphorus in it helps strengthen tooth enamel and protect your teeth from cavities. It is also high in protein, which is an essential nutrient for the production of collagen, a fibrous substance that keeps your skin looking young. You can also apply it to the face to sloughing away dead skin cells and unclogging pores. Strawberries: The vitamin C in strawberries help protect skin from environ-
mental damage. Puree the berries in a blender and mix in chilled curd and add a half of lemon juice. This will help lighten dark spots. Strawberries have high dosage of vitamin C and ellagic acid which is essential for the production of collagen and acts as an antioxidant. Avacado: It is the king of beauty foods. It is rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids, which help keep skin plump and smooth. Add avocados to salads and shakes to help bring out the shine. Tea: All teas are good for
the skin but green and white are especially beneficial because they have double the antioxidants of black tea. Almonds: Go nuts with almonds as it contains high levels of catalase, an enzyme that may help slow the greying process. Coffee: It helps protect skin from sun damage and prevents the breakdown of collagen and elastin that causes wrinkles and sagging. However, don’t drink more than a cup per day as coffee can also cause dehydration.
There has been so much talk on having a rainbow of foods on your plate - a group of ‘colours’ of certain fruit signifying certain benefits. Of these purple foods are perhaps most significant as it is a fact that darker the food, the higher the antioxidant level. Antioxidants can prevent cell damage, and keep one looking younger. Here are more reasons to stock up on purple-hued foods today.Benefits galore: As per data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Study (NHANES), in a survey on eating and health, it was seen that adults who eat purple and blue fruits and vegetables are less likely to be overweight. They have a reduced risk for both high blood pressure and low HDL cholesterol. It was believed that anthocyanins, or compounds that give purple foods their colour, were responsible for this. Purple foods have a pigment called anthocyanin. This is a strong
and antioxidant, which is said to reduce the risk of cancer. What they are: Eggplant, Purple grapes, figs, plums, dark cherries, raisins, purple cabbage are all candidates. Get cooking! Here are some quick-fix recipes... Plums: Take fresh plums, and put them in a grill with the skin on. Grill and sprinkle a little cinnamon powder on them. You can also stick a clove in each of them and rest them awhile, then remove cloves and eat. Purple cabbage: Take purple cabbage, slice it up. Drizzle some balsamic vinegar or light sweet onion dressing over them. Enjoy! Figs: To make a healthy salad, just chop fresh figs along with shredded rocket leaves, feta cheese and add toasted pine nuts or chopped walnuts on them. Serve.Plums: This fruit is best had on its own. However, it can also be enjoyed in desserts and savouries.
Best vegetarian sources of protein
Perhaps one of the most neglected meal components - Protein is the reason behind muscle regeneration, performance, and upkeep. Without it, you will find it impossible to get fitter. Animal protein helps maintain a wellbalanced diet for most nonvegetarians. But what about the vegetarians? Does one really need to switch meal preferences to gain the maximum protein punch? Not at all. Today we bring you the best vegetarian sources of protein that will help you gain muscle tone and maintain good nutrition. Read on... Whole grains: Although a fine line between carbs, cereal and protein - whole grains like quinoa and barley are excellent sources of protein. At approximately 18gms of protein per cup of cooked quinoa, this wonder grain is one of the best vegetarian sources of protein. Unfortunately, quinoa isn’t easily available in India, since it’s a South American crop. However, some premium stores do stock it. Failing that, barley or jowar and other whole grains are also sufficient vegetarian sources of protein. Soy: A wonderfully versatile ingredient, soy in all its shapes
and forms is a great protein source for vegetarians. Drink soy milk, stir in tofu with your salads, or simply munch on soy nuts. You’ll find that soy products can be roped in with just about any meal or snack - from vegetarian biryanis to light noon-time salads...Even midevening beverages. One cup of tofu contains approx. 18-20gms of protein. Most packaged tofu and soy milk is fortified with even more nutrients that would serve a vegetarian well. Nuts and seeds: These are protein sources that even non-vegetarians can’t ignore. Nuts like almonds, peanuts, walnuts and seeds like flax, sesame, sunflower, pumpkin are protein and energy powerhouses. However, nuts are also high in fat, so munch on the side of caution. You can even make your own homemade nut butters by simply grinding the nuts of your choice with a dash of olive oil and some more flavourers. Sprouts: Although technically, sprouts come under the beans, legumes and lentils category in vegetarian protein sources, they deserve a special mention. You can sprout already healthy ingredients like alfalfa, mung beans, chickpeas, peas, and
soyabeans. These sprouts are highly nutritious and rich in protein. Eat them raw with salads, or mix them in with a spicy, hearty dish - either way, your day’s protein requirements can be sufficiently met with these wonder sprouts. Do remember that for people with acidity, sprouts aren’t the best protein sources. Beans and lentils: Chalk one up for Indian cuisines, because our diets are already rich in these hearty vegetarian protein sources. Whether it’s the ever-loved Rajma Chawal or the various
East coast beans and lentil curries with kokam and tamarind, beans and lentils are an intrinsic part of our food culture. And rightly so. One cup of beans (kidney, black, red) contains approximately 15gms of protein. These do not, however, perform as optimally as dairy and soy sources of protein. Therefore, vegetarians must still take care to include all the other protein sources mentioned here. Dairy : Dairy has recieved some bad press recently (Re: Lactose intolerance being more common than we think).
A-Z about hair transplant
said. Supporting evidence for this conclusion comes from genetic research conducted by the team. They found that mice who lack a critical gene in the pheromone-detecting region of the nose, called the vomeronasal organ (VNO), were able to locate the mother’s nipple and to suckle. In contrast newborn mice who lacked the ability to smell regular smells, detected in a region called the main olfactory epithelium (MOE) struggled with feeding. “This is a neat study which shows the value of studying the development underlying an apparently ‘innate’ behaviour,” Dr Tristram Wyatt of the University of Oxford said. “The surprising result is that mouse pups use the individual odours of the mother to find their first feed. It is a reminder of the way that evolution uses whatever works: there is more than one way to find the first milk meal. “The rabbit has a pheromone in the milk, humans may have one around the nipple, and mice learn the individual odour of their mother.
Hair transplantation is an artistic, surgical redistribution of the permanent/ long life hair follicles taken from the donor dominant areas, viz., the back and sides of the head to the bald/balding areas of the scalp. These long life hair follicles are transplanted into the bald/balding areas of the scalp. With current microsurgical technologies, this results in a very natural appearing hair regrowth in the bald scalp areas. Dr. Arvind Poswal, MBBS (AFMC), MIMA, Hair Transplant Surgeon in Delhi decodes the ‘miracle’ procedure and the risks involved. Consult an expert: It is really important to sit down with the surgeon and to have a complete evaluation to determine whether you are a good candidate for hair transplantation. Try to choose the right expert. Types of hair and outcome: The hair colour, the texture of the hair such as whether it is straight or curly, can affect the outcome in a significant way. The candidate with lighter blonde type hair generally better result than a person with fine, straight, black hair. Various hair transplant procedures: Follicular Unit
Hair Transplant (FUHT) and Follicular Unit Separation Extraction (FUSE) are the widely practiced techniques in the field of hair transplantation. Choose the right procedure: The candidate needs to discuss their expectation and develop a feeling of trust before moving ahead with surgery. It is through mutual respect and sharing expectations for procedure that candidates are able to create realistic goals. Know about the procedure: Try to find out from the doctor every detail about the procedure that you will be undergoing. It will help to roll out the misconceptions about the treatment. Pre-existing medical condition: If the candidate has a preexisting medical condition, discuss it with the doctor at the time of consultation. For instance, if you are taking Coumadin, you will need to be off Coumadin for a week prior to your hair restoration procedure. Diabetes patients need to confirm that their diabetes is under good control. A word of precation: It is very important to slow down hair fall before opting for a hair transplant. One can try medical mea-
sures to slow down the hair loss and also natural products like Keratene can be very helpful. Potential risks: Hair transplant surgery is a very low risk procedure. One risk of any such procedure would be the possibility of an allergic reaction to the anesthetic used. Qualified physicians will have the proper equipment and training to deal with this type of risk. Some people may experience minor swelling and in-grown hair after the procedure. This is usually easily controlled by properly trained plastic surgeons. After care: Once you regain your hair, proper care in the first two weeks after the procedure is very crucial for best results. Depending on the
type of procedure you have done and the type of work you do, it is often possible to go back to work the next day. However, not all hair transplant recipients need the same kind of posthair transplant care. The patient needs to inquire about specific after-care instructions during the consultation. Hair growth after the procedure: Once the transplanted hair begins to grow, it will continue to do so for a lifetime. The transplanted hair generally sheds within the first 2-6 weeks after the procedure as the roots enter a resting phase. Between 3-8 months, the transplanted roots start sprouting hair.

Perpetrators of Muzaffarnagar riots will be given strictest punishment: Manmohan Lucknow, September 16: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday described the recent communal riots in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar as a “big tragedy” and promised “strictest punishment” to the perpetrators of the conflagration. “I am here to share your pain,” a grim-faced Singh told people displaced by the violence, during his visit to a refugee camp in Bassi Kalan village, 30 km from here. Singh, who reached Muzaffarnagar along with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi, spent around half-an-hour in the camp in which members from the Muslim community have taken shelter. As many as 48 people were killed, over 100 injured and more than 43,000 rendered homeless in the communal clashes that singed the area since September 7. The army had to be called in to contain the situation. Talking to reporters after listening to the views of the people living in the camp, Singh termed last week’s riots as a “major incident”. Before heading for another camp in Tawli village, the Prime Minister said that the “perpetrators of the riots will be given strictest punishment”. “Our priority and efforts would be to send the displaced people to their homes,” he said while assuring all help to the Uttar Pradesh government in restoring normalcy in the
area. The Prime Minister told reporters that he expected the security scenario to improve in the area so that the displaced people can return home as soon as possible. While Manmohan Singh spoke to divisional commissioner Bhuvnesh Kumar and district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma, Sonia Gandhi mingled with women and sought to know the sequence of events that led to the rioting. Gandhi was seen talking to women, who expressed their concerns about the violence which has claimed over 40 lives. She consoled
the women, who looked quite satisfied with the gesture shown by her. Rahul Gandhi spoke to the youth and assured them the Congress and the union government was with them. He also asked the union minister of state for home affairs RPN Singh to take petitions from the people and address them. Minister of State for Home RPN Singh, who had earlier said the Centre is closely monitoring the situation in riot-hit Muzaffarnagar, is also accompanying the three leaders. Later, the Prime Minister met
Coal Ministry submits detailed report on missing files to CBI
New Delhi, September 16:
The Coal Ministry submitted to the CBI on Monday a detailed report on the missing files pertaining to coal block allocations, said an official. “We have sent the report to the CBI on Monday,” a Coal Ministry official said on the condition of anonymity. Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal did not make any comment on whether the files have been dispatched. However, he said, “The instructions of the Supreme Court are being followed.” When asked about the details of the report that the ministry has sent to CBI, the official said, “It is a confidential correspondence between the CBI and the ministry. I am sorry that I will not talk about it.” When asked as to when the Ministry will file com-
plaint with regard to the missing files, he said, “We will take action in accordance with the directions of the Supreme Court and as per the law and within the timeline which has been prescribed for us.” Nearly 150 files and documents were to be received by the CBI from the Coal Ministry. No relief for Asaram Bapu, to remain in jail till September 30 Jodhpur, September 16: Controversial godman Asaram Bapu, accused of sexually assaulting a minor, will remain in jail with a court on Monday extending his judicial custody by 14 days. Asaram and his aide Shiva were produced before the court of district and session judge where magistrate Manoj Kumar Vyas extended their judicial custody. 72-year-old Asaram, who was arrested on September 1 for allegedly sexually assaulting a girl, requested the magistrate to allow his doctor to visit him in jail. However, the magistrate refused to comment on the issue in the absence of the defence counsel. Bapu's counsel has a moved bail application in the high court, hearing on which is scheduled today. Asaram's arrest followed an FIR filed by the girl alleging she was sexually assaulted by him at his Jodhpur ashram. He has denied the charges. Meanwhile, counsel for the girl, who was alleg-
edly sexually exploited by Asaram Bapu, claimed to have received threats from followers of the self-styled godman. Lawyer of the victim, Manish Vyas, claimed that the threat was issued to a friend of the victim's father asking him to withdraw the statements of her daughter against Asaram. Referring to an audio clip, Vyas said the girl and her family continue to receive threats from Asaram's followers. "I have urged the police to ensure adequate security to the family," Vyas said.

The Prime Minister had earlier talked to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and condemned the violence. Expressing his grief and shock over the loss of innocent lives, Singh had assured Yadav that the Centre will extend all required assistance to the state government in tackling the situation. Akhilesh, who visited the violence affected areas on Sunday, assured people that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the disturbances. Meanwhile, the situation in the affected areas of the state is limping back to normal. No incident of violence was reported Sunday when the day curfew was relaxed. Scores of senior officials, including Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arun Kumar and others, are constantly camping in trouble-hit Muzaffarnagar. The Uttar Pradesh Government has constituted a one-member judicial commission to probe the Muzaffarnagar violence. The commission, which would mainly look into administrative lapses, if any, in controlling the violence, would submit its report to the government within two months.
Advani makes his peace, praises Narendra Modi Raipur, September 16: BJP patriarch LK Advani on Monday finally came out of his cocoon to back Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi as prime minister, heaping lavish praise on the man whose naming as the party’s prime ministerial candidate had left the former deputy prime minister sulking. Apparently coming to terms with the reality of the moment, Advani spoke highly about Modi at a public meeting in Korba district, about 225 km north of Raipur, on Monday. Advani addressed his first public meeting in Chhattisgarh after Modi was anointed as the BJP’s prime minister candidate on Friday last While comparing performance of BJP-ruled states with others, the veteran BJP leader said that Gujarat state has done a lot on development. “I give an example of Gujarat, from where my colleague Narendra Modi has been declared as PM candidate…it was the first state to ensure that electricity reaches each and every village. The state, which I also represent as an MP, has done a lot on that front,” he said in
The anointment of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate has drawn tremendous response across the country and the party would contest the elections with development as the main agenda, senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu said on Monday. “After the BJP has announced Narendra Modi as the Prime Ministerial candidate, our opponents, particularly Congress, is rattled. They are making irresponsible, at times, idiotic statements,” Mr. Naidu told reporters here. “One leader says that it will be end of democracy if Modi wins. The party which has murdered democracy is making such absurd allegations. They are afraid that they will not be able to face Narendra Modi and his development agenda,” he said. Noting that L K Advani did not oppose Mr. Modi’s anointment, Mr. Naidu said the veteran leader felt that the decision could have been taken after the coming Assembly elections. “I don’t want to make any com-
ment in the context of Advaniji. He (Advani) is our senior leader. He brought all of us here. The countrymen know about his contribution. He is the tallest political leader in India’s political history as of now. He has his view,” the BJP leader said. “He (Advani) did not oppose Narendra Modi as I am telling you clearly. He had raised a point and the majority of the people felt early announcement will be good. You have seen Parliamentary Board unanimously making a choice,” he said. Replying to a query, Mr. Naidu said the BJP did not take the decision about projecting Mr. Modi as the party’s face for the elections under pressure from RSS and that Hindutva would not be an electoral issue. “Hindutva is not an election issue. It is the cultural identity of the nation. Let’s be very clear. It is not a political issue. We are clear that agenda is development. We have not taken this under pressure from anyone. Yes, the party has taken the decision in deference to the aspirations of the people. That’s why it is being welcomed all over the country,” he said. To another question, Mr. Naidu
Mohd Zakariya, a close aide of top LeT bomb expert Abdul Karim Tunda, was on Monday remanded to 10- day police custody by a Delhi court after the investigators said he had helped in illegal infiltration of Pakistani nationals into India through Bangladesh. Zakariya, who was lodged in Presidency jail in Kolkata, was produced before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Amit Bansal in pursuance to the production warrants issued against him earlier. Seeking custodial interrogation of Zakariya, who is Tunda's father-in-law, the Special Cell of Delhi Police told the court that in 1994 when Tunda had gone to Pakistan, Zakariya had helped him illegally enter Bangladesh. From Bangladesh, Tunda had flown to Pakistan. Zakariya, who was arrested by West Bengal police in some other case, is accused of helping Pakistani nationals to infiltrate into India and Tunda is also
in police custody in this case. Detailing Zakariya's role, the police said he had also helped some Pakistani nationals to infiltrate into India for carrying out various terror strikes which occurred in and around Delhi in 1998. Police also sought Zakariya's custodial interrogation to confront him with other accused, Mohd Basiruddin and Allauddin. Police said he will be taken to the places from where he helped Pakistani nationals infiltrate into India. The court allowed the plea and remanded Zakariya to police custody till September 26. Police had earlier said Allauddin is in a prison in Uttar Dinajpur in West Bengal and his custody has been sought. It had earlier sought Tunda's custody for confronting him with Allauddin and Zakariya and also to take him to West Bengal for nabbing other coaccused. It had said that Tunda was also required to be confronted with one
Shafiq-ul-Islam for his involvement in the present case. "Tunda disclosed he had facilitated the accused persons (Pakistani nationals) arrested in the present case in their infiltration into India, illegally with the help of Allauddin and Zakariya," police had said. They had told the court that two Bangladeshi nationals -- Abdul and Matiur-Rehman -- were arrested on February 27, 1998 and one hand grenade each was recovered from them besides other incriminating material. During interrogation, they had admitted to their involvement in various terror strikes and said it was Tunda who had helped them infiltrate into India, police said. Eleven others, including Pakistani nationals, were also arrested. They are Mohd Amir Khan, Mohd Shakeel, Abdul Baqi, Abdul Rehman, Maqsood Ahmed, Mohd Azaz, Mohd Husain, Himam Sheikh, Mohd Umar, Mohd Safiqul and Abdul Qasim. Tunda was arrested
from the Indo-Nepal border at Banbasa on August 16. He was then remanded in police custody for quizzing in connection with 37 bomb blast cases across India. Tunda, 70, was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital on August 22 after he complained of chest pain and was shifted to AIIMS a day later. He was discharged on September 3. Another case against him, lodged in 1994, is in connection with the recovery of explosive substances at south Delhi's Malviya Nagar under the provisions of the stringent anti- terror law, TADA. Tunda was declared proclaimed offender in a case in which Special Cell arrested three suspected terrorists -- Aftab, Abdul Haq and Abdul Wahid --on January 17, 1994, for allegedly planning terror strikes in the national capital during Republic Day. They had claimed that Tunda admitted to his involvement in several bomb blast incidents in Delhi and other states.
cost of Rs. 3,671 crore. Advani later proceeded to Bilaspur district to lay the foundation stone of an irrigation project. Advani also applauded the accomplishment of Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh on the occasion. “I knew him as a party worker and later as parliamentarian. He is quite talented and Chhattisgarh has got an honest good governance under him. The state has seen the maximum growth of power with 24hour supply across the state under his tenure,” said the BJP leader.
Advani, Iron Man of BJP, left to rust: Nitish Kumar Patna: After acutely fighting his party's decision to name Narendra Modi its choice for Prime Minister, LK Advani today endorsed the move publicly, offering praise for the Gujarat Chief Minister at a rally. (Read) However, Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, was on standby with a kilo or two of salt for Mr Advani's wounds. "Advani ji was once the Iron Man of the BJP," he said, "today, he has been left to rust." Mr Advani was isolated and unequivocally over-ruled last week by his party after he warned of "political disaster" as a consequence of declaring Mr Modi the prime ministerial candidate. The BJP went ahead with its announcement on Friday. Mr Advani stayed at home. Mr Kumar has denigrated the BJP's decision as a poor move which will prevent other parties from joining it to form a strong coalition that can challenge the Congress-led UPA that is currently in power.
said several other parties would come to BJP and that there will be realignment of political forces before and after elections. He claimed that Congress may choose to go for early elections as it fears losing four out of the five states, where Assembly elections will be held soon. “May be. We cannot believe Congressmen. All studies say out of five states, Congress is going to lose four states. That being the case, once they lose four states, their morale in fighting Lok Sabha elections will be very less. That is one fear in them. They are discussing both options. If Congress president says no early elections, then we have to doubt. Because they will never tell the truth,” he said. Mr. Naidu said the BJP would present a blue print for development before the country, which is craving for development and good governance. Alleging that BJP’s rivals would try to divert people’s attention from issue of development and bring in communal politics, he said the party is determined to pursue the agenda of good governance.

AISA sweeps JNU student union polls New Delhi, September 16: The Leftleaning All India Students Association (AISA) on Monday swept the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) election, bagging three of the four top posts by huge margins. Akbar Chaudhary was elected as president, Anubhuti Agnes the vice president, Sandeep Saurav the general secretary and Sarfaraz Hamid the joint secretary. The results were declared Monday after votes were counted over three days. A total of 4,589 votes were polled. Hamid, a French masters student, polled 1,705 votes, narrowly defeating DSF’s Sonam Goyal by 59 votes. The major battle was between the AISA — which also won three posts barring that of president in 2012 — and the DSF, a breakaway group from the Students Federation of India (SFI).
TDP chief commends NDA’s ‘good work’, slams UPA Hyderabad, Sep. 16: Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday commended the “good” work that had happened done during National Democratic Rule rule but declined to commit if his party would return to Bharatiya Janata Party BJP-led NDA fold even as he attacked the Congress and the United Progressive Alliance. “There is a national crisis now. We have to first save the country by wiping out Congress as it is the main culprit that pushed the country into crisis,” Mr. Naidu told reporters here this afternoon. He claimed the UPA government, since its first term, “reaped the fruits of all the good” that had happened during NDA rule between 1999 and 2004. “The UPA-2 is steeped in corruption and scandals because of which the systems collapsed and (it) pushed the country into the crisis. UPA2 has become a curse for the country,” the former Chief Minister alleged.
Asked whether TDP would realign with NDA, with BJP naming Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate, the TDP supremo said it was not the time to talk about politics or Mr. Modi. During his public meeting in Hyderabad last month, the Gujarat Chief Minister had made an overture towards TDP, saying the party which inherited the legacy of the legendary NTR should join forces to dislodge Congress from power. Mr. Naidu on Monday charged “India is facing a peculiar situation. Congress is the villain that is responsible for the crisis. It’s the main culprit. We have to see that Congress is totally wiped out.”

Out-of-favour India opener Virender Sehwag feels that team's success is "more important" than individual feats of players. Sehwag, who is desperately eyeing a comeback in the national side, said he is more happy when he is able to contribute to the team's cause. "For me, the success of the team is always important then individual performances of players," Sehwag said at the inauguration of the two synthetic pitches at the Pragati Sporting Club. "I feel happy when I score a 40 or 50 and the team wins rather than when I score a double century and the team loses," he added. The Pragati Sporting Club is one of the country's oldest cricket clubs and has produced international cricketers like former India opener Shiv Sundar
out the formidable Thai pair of Ratiwatanas with a 7-6 (5) 7-6 (1) win in the first round, which lasted one our and 31 minutes.
Uncapped Devcich in New Zealand squad Agencies The opening batsman Anton Devcich has been named in New Zealand's limited-overs squad to tour Bangladesh next month. Devcich, 27, is the only uncapped player in the 15-man group for the three one-day internationals and one-off Twenty20 and is expected to open with Hamish Rutherford after Martin Guptill was ruled out due to a broken finger. Fast bowler Adam Milne and allrounder Jimmy Neesham earned recalls but there was no room for wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi, nor allrounder James Franklin, both of whom have been dropped from the Champions Trophy squad. Daniel Vettori was not considered for the tour due to an Achil-
les tendon injury, while Tim Southee was named in the limited-overs party after being left out of the Test squad following ankle surgery. Devcich, a Northern Districts batsman, scored his maiden first-class century during the New Zealand A tour of India earlier this month and followed that with 48, 1 and 66 in the one-day games against India A. Bruce Edgar, the general manager of national selection, said Devcich had been an impressive oneday performer for some time. "Anton showed very good signs against England last season for New Zealand A and has transitioned from a middle order batsman to an aggressive top order player," Edgar said. "He is also
an outstanding fielder with the ability to contribute as a left arm spin bowling option which will be useful in the sub-continent. "Adam [Milne] returns to the team after a number of injury concerns and he offers the squad genuine pace. We've been impressed with his rhythm and pace on the New Zealand A tour of India." The New Zealand coach, Mike Hesson, said injuries to men like Guptill and Vettori would allow opportunities for others like Neesham, 22, who played three ODIs and three T20s in South Africa last summer. Neesham offers another bowling option but has also displayed his power with the bat, scoring 104 not out from 40 balls for Otago during a Champions League warm-up overnight.
Das. Sehwag, who scored only 27 runs in his last two Tests against Australia at home, is hoping for a place
on what I have at hand. I would like to take one match at a time and give my hundred percent. My job is to perform in whatever matches I am playing. I would be happy to play more longer format games but would like to wait till Ranji Trophy for that," said Harbhajan, who last played against Australia in Hyderabad, in March this year.

Deprived of a place in the India 'A' squads, Harbhajan Singh finds himself with limited opportunities to stage a comeback, but the out-of-favour spinner is determined to make an impact in the upcoming Champions League T20 to force his way into national reckoning. Unlike some of the other seniors like Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan who have been drafted into the India 'A' team for the series against West Indies 'A' for their comeback trail, Harbhajan has no choice but to prove his worth in the T20 event. "I am always happy to play any format, be it days cricket, one dayers or T20. Whatever adjustments you make, the basic principles of success do not change. Whether it's Tests or T20s, the art of picking up wickets remains the same," Harbhajan told PTI over phone from Ahmedabad, where he is training with
Mumbai Indians squad for CLT20. "You can think about being restrictive in T20 format, whereas you can afford to experiment in Tests. But in both formats, you need to bowl those wickettaking deliveries that win you matches. At this point of time, I am totally focussed on doing well for Mumbai Indians in the Champions League T20," the 33-yearold bowler, who played a pivotal role in MI's IPL triumph with 24 wickets, said. Harbhajan, who has taken 694 international wickets across the three formats, reckons that he still has the hunger and the ability to perform at the highest level. "There is a lot of hunger left in me to perform at the international level. But I would like to concentrate

Double delight for Yuki in Taiwan It was double delight for Yuki Bhambri as he qualified for the singles main draw of the ATP Challenger tournament and then shocked second seeded pair of Sanchai and Sonchat Ratiwatana in the doubles event with partner Chieh-Fu Wang, here on Monday. In the third and final round of the singles qualifiers, third seeded Yuki defeated Japanese fifth seed Arata Onozawa 7-5, 6-1 in one hour and 36 minutes. He has drawn Israeli Amir Weintraub as his first round opponent. It will be second time that Yuki will clash with Amir, having beaten him last year in Uzbekistan. If Yuki get past Amir, he may find world number 144 Japanese seventh seed Yuichi Sugita, to whom he has lost both his previous matches. Yuki will be the lone Indian competing in the singles as Karunuday Singh lost his final qualifying round 2-6, 1-6 to top seeded Japanese Yas-

Turkey, September 16: Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi played out a fighting draw with Bai Jinshi of China, while GM Sahaj Grover lost to defending champion Alexander Ipatov of Turkey in the third round of World Junior chess championship here. It was an English opening by Gujrathi that did not promise much hope in the middle game even as Jinshi exchanged off pieces at regular intervals to retain the parity. The players arrived at a queen and pawns endgame where the draw was a just result after 38 moves. The other Indian Grandmaster in the fray – S.P. Sethuraman - made amends for his draw in the previous round and outplayed Ayan Akhmetov of Kazakhstan.

N Srinivasan caused $633 million loss to BCCI: Lalit Modi New Delhi, September 16: The former IPL chairperson Lalit Modi has decided to take on former BCCI chief N Srinivasan after accusing him of indulging in financial impropriety during the second edition of the T20 tournament in 2009. He also alleged that Srinivasan's wrongdoings led to a monumental loss of $633 million to the Indian cricket board. Lalit Modi, the disgraced cricket administrator, took to Twitter to express his anger and said: "On Sahara/Kochi deals, Srini caused BCCI $633 million loss, not Lalit." He also furnished unsubstantiated documentary evidence to back his allegations. Modi alleged that Srinivasan devised a "clever mechanism" to shield his wrongdoings during the second edition
of the IPL in 2009. Srinivasan, without the approval of BCCI, asked Cricket South Africa(CSA) to open a bank account for the purposes of the Indian cricket body. "For this N Srinivasan executed an agreement on behalf of BCCI with Cricket South Africa (CSA) on 30th March, 2009. One of the conditions under the agreement dated 30th March, 2009 was that CSA would open and operate a dedicated bank account for conducting the tournament, as if it was a BCCI account but camoflouged as CSA account," the document reads. "Further on 25th March, 2009 N.Srinivasan circulated instructions to all including IPL Chairman who was not party or attended any meeting with CSA and Secretary's team in reference to above agreement
and contravention of BCCI resolution that CSA would operate a separate bank account and makes payments on behalf of BCCI and BCCI will replenish the amount as and when required and after the tournament CSA can send final statement for settlement. The letter made it clear that the account would be monitored by BCCI and any disbursal would be made after final approval of N. Srinivasan. All bills were to be forwarded to N. Srinivasan for final authorization," the document further reads. According to the document, the Enforcement Directorate found the funding of CSA by BCCI without RBI's prior approval to be gross violation of Foreign Exchange Managemebnt Act (FEMA). The violation of FEMA been found to the tune of Rs
1079.00 crore and the penalty is likely to be 3 times and will cause BCCI to pay Rs 3237.00 crore. The former IPL chairperson blamed Srinivasan's "obstinate conduct" that forced termination of Kochi Tuskers Kerala and led to the ouster of Sahara Pune Warriors from the IPL. This allegedly led to a total loss of $633 million to the BCCI because of reduced bank guarantee on account of Kochi($300 million) and on account of Sahara($333 million). Modi's document also alleges that the former BCCI chief manipulated the IPL media rights bid and "blackmailed" Sony to extricate personal gains. On the other hand, the BCCI president-in-exile has been busy working on his bid to retain the hotseat for one more season.
Sindhu to lead Indian badminton in Japan Tokyo, September 16: In the absence of Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap due to an ankle injury, young P.V. Sindhu will spearhead the Indian challenge at the $200,000 Super Series tournament, starting here on Tuesday. Tired after the hectic Indian Badminton League (IBL), Saina decided to take rest but Kashyap was forced to pull out at the last moment as he could not recover from his ankle injury, which he suffered during the IBL. “I’m not playing the Japan Open as I could not recover from the ankle injury I had suffered during the IBL,” Kashyap said. With the senior shuttlers missing in action, all eyes will be on World No. 10 Sindhu, who will be playing in her first international tournament after winning the pres-
tigious bronze medal at the World Championship in China. Sindhu, seeded eighth, will take on two qualifiers in the first two rounds and is likely to make it to the last eight without much ado. In the quarterfinals, the 18-yearold from Hyderabad, in all probability, would face World No.1 and Olympic champion Li Xuerui of China. A year ago, Sindhu had defeated the Chinese during the 2012 China Masters in Changzhou but Xuerui will always prove to be a very tough customer to get across, considering her exploits at the world stage. In women’s singles, Tanvi Lad, ranked No.77 in the world, will give Sindhu company. The Mumbai girl will take on Japanese World No.20 Sayaka Takahashi in her opening round at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
