‘Pandits integral part of our society’ Srinagar, June 22 (KNS): While giving his opinion of starting consultation regarding the creating of national consensus against the collective plan of Modi government to establish the three separate cities within the Kashmir Valley for Kashmiri Pandits, chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani said that none of the Kashmiri Muslim is opposing the return of Kashmiri Pandits but by creating the separate cities for them, ‘government is actually working on its dangerous plan to harm centuries old brotherhood, to divide society and to give freedom struggle a communal colour’. Iraq conflict widens
1 more town in Anbar captured by ISIS Baghdad, June 22: Sunni militants have seized another town in Iraq’s western Anbar province, the fourth to fall in two days, officials said Sunday, in what is shaping up to be a major offensive in one of Iraq’s most restive regions. Iran’s supreme leader meanwhile came out forcefully against any U.S. intervention in Iraq, accusing Washington of fomenting the unrest and appearing to quash recent speculation that the two rivals might co-operate in addressing the shared threat posed by the advance of Islamic extremists. Meanwhile, U.S. President Barack Obama says the threat from al-Qaeda-inspired militants could grow and spill over into other countries in the region. Obama says the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant poses a medium- and long-term threat, and the United States must be vigilant. He says the Sunni extremist group could amass more weapons and resources and could move into neighbouring Jordan and worsen the situation in Syria. But Obama says the U.S. can’t address hotspots across the Middle East alone. He says the U.S. must pursue a focused, targeted strategy of partnering with local authorities to boost their own security. Obama’s comments came in an interview airing Sunday on CBS’ Face the Nation. Iraqi officials said the militants captured Rutba, about 150 kilometres east of the Jordanian border, late Saturday. Residents were on Sunday negotiating with the militants to leave after an army unit on the town’s out-
skirts threatened to start shelling. The towns of Qaim, Rawah, Anah and Rutba are the first seized in the mainly Sunni Anbar province since fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and their allies overran the city of Fallujah and parts of the provincial capital of Ramadi earlier this year. Iraq..... Forces take their positions during a patrol looking for ISIS militants, explosives and weapons in a neighbourhood in Ramadi in early June. (Reuters) The capture of Rawah on the Euphrates River and the nearby town of Anah appeared to be part of march toward a key dam in the city of Haditha, the destruction of which would damage the country’s electrical grid and cause major flooding. Taking Rutba gives the insurgents control over the final stretch of a major highway to neighbouring Jordan, a key artery for passengers and goods that has been infrequently used for months because of deteriorating security. Rutba has a population of 40,000 but it has recently been home to 20,000 displaced from Fallujah and Ramadi. Iraqi military officials said more than 2,000 troops were quickly dispatched to the site of the dam to protect it. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media. Chief military spokesman, Lt.-Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi, acknowledged the fall of the Anbar towns, saying government forces had made a tactical retreat and planned to retake them. He provided no further details. The Islamic State and allied militants have carved out a large fiefdom along the Iraqi-Syrian border. Control
over crossings like that one in Qaim allows them to more easily move weapons and heavy equipment. Rebels control the Syrian side of the crossing. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s Shia-dominated government has struggled to push back against the Sunni militants, who have seized large swaths of the country’s north since taking control of the second-largest city of Mosul on June 10 as troops melted away. Iraq has requested U.S. airstrikes to help halt the advance, but U.S. President Barack Obama has yet to order any, and has instead called on Iraqi leaders to form a more representative government in thinly-veiled criticism of al-Maliki. The top leader of neighbouring Iran, which has strong influence over Baghdad, on Sunday said he was opposed to any U.S. intervention in the country. “We strongly oppose the intervention of the U.S. and others in the domestic affairs of Iraq,” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the final say over state policy, was quoted as saying by the IRNA state news agency, in his first reaction to the crisis. “The main dispute in Iraq is between those who want Iraq to join the U.S. camp and those who seek an independent Iraq,” said Khamenei. “The U.S. aims to bring its own blind followers to power.” The U.S. has long accused Iran of meddling in Iraq, including by organizing and backing Shia militias following the 2003 invasion. The commander of Iran’s elite Quds Force, Gen. Ghasem Soleimani, was reportedly in Iraq last week to consult with the government on how to stave off insurgents’ gains. Soleimani’s forces are a secretive branch of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard that were allegedly involved in organizing the anti-U.S. militias and have more recently aided Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad in his fight against Sunni rebels. Al-Maliki, who has led the country since 2006 and has not yet secured a third term after April’s parliamentary elections, has increasingly turned to Iranian-backed Shia militias and volunteers to bolster his beleaguered security forces. Thousands of Shia militiamen paraded through Baghdad and other cities on Saturday, brandishing a massive arsenal that included field artillery, rocket launchers and heavy machine-guns in a show of force that promised to ramp up sectarian tensions. In Baghdad, about 20,000 militiamen loyal to anti-U.S. Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, many in military fatigues, marched through the sprawling Shia Sadr City district, which saw some of the worst fighting between Shia militias and U.S. soldiers before a ceasefire was reached in 2008 that helped stem the sectarian bloodshed that was pushing the country to the brink of civil war. Al-Maliki has come under growing pressure to reach out to disaffected Kurds and Sunnis, with many blaming his failure to promote reconciliation for the country’s worst crisis since the U.S. military withdrew its forces nearly three years ago. Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, the most respected voice for Iraq’s Shiite majority, who normally stays above the political fray, on Friday joined calls for al-Maliki to reach out to the Kurdish and Sunni minorities. Al-Maliki’s State of Law bloc won the most seats in

the April vote, but his hopes to retain his job have been thrown into doubt, with rivals challenging him from within the broader Shia alliance. The U.S., meanwhile, has been drawn back into the conflict. It is deploying up to 300 military advisers to join some 275 troops in and around Iraq to provide security and support for the U.S. Embassy and other American interests. Obama, in an interview with CBS’s Face the Nation airing Sunday, warned that the al-Qaeda-inspired militants in Iraq could grow in power and destabilize the region. He said Washington must remain “vigilant” but would not “play whack-a-mole and send US troops occupying various countries wherever these organizations pop up.” Iraq enjoyed several years of relative calm before violence spiked a year ago after al-Maliki moved to crush a Sunni protest movement against alleged discrimination and abuse at the hands of his government and security forces.
Mehbooba..... deputy prime minister L K Advani under the Vajpayee led government,” she said. Mehbooba said there was a need for a sustained dialogue between different shades of public opinion in J&K and New Delhi and between New Delhi and Islamabad for a dignified solution of Kashmir issue. She said that SAARC cooperation should begin from Jammu and Kashmir and the state should become a model of the economic integration among all these neighboring countries. Jammu and Kashmir can become a model for a free economic zone wherein all the neighboring countries invest and the state could reap the economic dividends, which would result in creating livelihood on a mass scale. “There is no better place than Kashmir to start the Handicrafts University proposed by the SAARC countries, which has historically been the hub of handicrafts and traditional arts in the entire world.” Mehbooba stressed. Jammu and Kashmir has been the gateway to the central Asian countries but unfortunately after the partition of the sub- continent Kashmir became hostage to the animosity between India and Pakistan. So while the NDA government has expressed its willingness to engage with all its neighboring countries including China what better way than to restoring the old silk route that connects the whole region. The PDP president said that though Kashmir issue needs a apolitical solution but bad governance, corruption and unemployment has further complicated the issue thus creating enormous instability and insecurity among the people.
Domes day for foreign black Money account holders nearing Swiss govt prepares list of Indians
New Delhi, June 22: In a major boost to India's fight against black money, Switzerland has prepared a list of Indians suspected to have stashed un-taxed wealth in Swiss banks and the details are being shared with Indian government. The names of these Indian individuals and entities have come under scanner of the Swiss authorities during an ongoing exercise to identify real beneficiary owners of funds held in various banks operating in Switzerland, a senior Swiss government official said. "These individuals and entities are suspected to have held un-taxed money in Swiss banks through structures like trusts, domiciliary companies and other legal entities based out of countries other than India," the official told a news agency. He refused to divulge the identity of these persons and entities, as also the quantum of funds held by them in Swiss banks, citing confidentiality clause of the bilateral information exchange treaty between two countries. The official further said Swiss authorities were very keen to work with the new government in India and they would also provide all necessary support to the newly set up Special Investigation Team (SIT) on black money. He, however, dismissed claims that black money stashed in Swiss banks by Indians could be trillions of dollars, as the latest Swiss National Bank data pegs the total foreign client money across 283 banks in Switzerland at USD 1.6 trillion. When asked about rise in Indian exposure to Swiss banks at 2.03 billion Swiss francs (Rs 14,000 crore), he said these are the funds held by clients who have declared themselves as Indian and therefore were unlikely to be ill-gotten wealth.

Dentist..... Ahmad Naikoo who received three bullets after three masked gunmen opened indiscriminate fire inside a house of Congress activist Khazir Mohammad Naikoo and leaving his son Nazir Ahmad dead at Seeloo Sopore. The injured dentist was immediately shifted to Sub-district hospital Sopore in critical condition, where from he was shifted to SKIMS Soura, the official said, adding that today morning the dentist passed away. “Dentist Shabir Ahmad was running his clinic at Singhpora Pattan from last couple of years after he completed his training in the same field”, Congress Vice Block President and uncle of dentist Khazir Mohammad Naikoo while talking to GNS over phone said. Son of congress activist Nazir Ahmad Naikoo was killed on the spot while Shabir Ahmad was critically injured when gunmen opened indiscriminate fire at them on Friday evening. The congress activist has already said that he recognizes one of the three attackers as Raja Khan who barged inside his house and carried the attack on the fateful night. Deputy Inspector General of Police North Kashmir, Ghulam Hassan Bhat had told GNS that a Pakistani and as well as a local militant were involved in the attack by the family of Mehraj-ud-Din Khan of Mundgi Sopore. DIG said that in February last year, a militant Mohammad Shafi of Zaloora was killed near the residence of Khazir Mohammad Naikoo and the attackers tried to pass-off the incident as the revenge which is actually not the case. According to police, on Khazir Mohammad’s disclosure they arrested Mehraj-ud-Din Khan alias Raja. “During preliminary investigation, Raja revealed that there was a family land dispute between the two families since long”, a police official told GNS, adding that a case FIR no. 95/2014 under section 302, 307 RPC and & 7/27 I A Act have been registered and further investigations taken up in this regard.
