14 of them referred to JVC Bemina: BMO Three of them were discharged after given first aid while 14 others have been referred to JVC Bemina for specialized treatment”, Block Medical Officer, Dr Khalid Rashid told GNS. He said among those referred to JVC, three have suffered serious injuries. “One of them Nazir Ahmad Mir of Ratsuna has serious eye injury while two others Haleema Bano of Khag and Mugli Begium have lower abdominal injuries”, he said. Asked whether such injuries can be caused due to blast of a battery, the BMO said: It does not look like that. It seems

that the injuries have been due to some blast of explosive substance. nagar and Magam, Beerwah today and said that PDP’s open support to BJP was a historic betrayal with the people of Jammu & Kashmir and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed should know that there is a limit to a nation’s tolerance to gimmickry, political intrigues and lies. Speaking to the public in Kh-

Srinagar, Dr. Abullah said single vote that you will cast for National Conference will be a vote against the Modi-Mufti Alliance and will be a vote that will stop the march of communal forces from entering J&K”. Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that National Conference was a political institution founded on sacrifices and public service unlike PDP which was a coalition of opportunistic individuals who are bound together by their insatiable hunger for power and position. “National Conference has defended Article 370 and Kashmiriyat from hundreds of intrigues and thousands of enemies and National Conference will continue to be a protection shield for J&K and its people long after I am gone”. Srinagar, Apr 27: Stating that some political parties claiming to be ‘thoroughly secular’ have been exposed in the present Lok Sabha elections particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, senior Congress leader and union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday said PDP fielded its candidates in Jammu and Udhampur just to help ‘communal forces like BJP’. Talking to KNS, Azad also claimed that there is a perfect chemistry between Congress and the National Conference owing to which the UPA will bag all the six Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir. The senior Congress leader and the Lok Sabha candidate from Udhampur parliamentary constituency took strong exception of media reports claiming that Azad had rejected Dr Farooq

Srinagar, April 27: National Conference Youth President Salman Ali Sagar conducted an impressive road rally through various areas of Srinagar today and asked the people to vote in large numbers for National Conference Party President Dr. Farooq Abdullah for the greater common-good of the people of J&K. finally been converted into a Modi versus Rahul Gandhi discourse. “The new-found love of both these parties for their political backers in Delhi and the brazen manner in which they are trying to introduce the concept of cronyism is bound to have long term consequences. They want to politically divide the Kashmiris as adherents of BJP or Congress. This is yet another attempt to undermine the supremacy of the political aspirations in Kashmir and thrust upon them an alien political culture,” the PC chairman said. ‘Uphold the right to call for a boycott’ Srinagar, Apr 27 : Stating that whosoever attains power in New Delhi, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) will continue to strive for the people of the state, PDP patron and the former chief minster Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Sunday accused that stone pelting was utilized in south Kashmir to enforce poll boycott. Mufti, however, while lauding the efforts of the people of south Kashmir stated that despite the violence ‘staged’ in south Kashmir, people at large voted in PDP’s favor. “Party kae logu kae allawa, baqi logun nae hamain vot diye (In addition to the party supporters, others also voted for us).” Mufti while addressing newsmen at his residence stated that the record of PDP is clear vis-à-vis its relations with the BJP and it was the chief minister Omar Abdullah who was the minister in the BJP led NDA government when massacre of Muslims was carried out. “NC expelled Mr Soz

Speaking to people at various places in Srinagar, Salman said that the honor only goes to the leadership of National Conference that the state has its own flag and a unique identity and a separate constitution. Urging people to defeat the communal forces and the PDP-BJP alliance, Salman said that the time had come when the masses have to play a vital role in registering a marvelous triumph for the National Conference candidate Dr Fraooq Abdullah in the Lok Sabha polls. I am presently busy with party campaigning in Andhra Pradesh and interiors of South India and having been incharge of the state, I am not being allowed to leave the campaigning for a moment,” Azad said, adding that he was not asked by Dr Farooq Abdullah or Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to campaign in Central and North Kashmir Lok Sabha constituencies. “I think Dr Farooq Sahib is a popular political leader who does not need my presence there to garner votes.”“If I would See Azad on pg 07

India successfully test-fires new interceptor missile New Delhi,Apr 27,:India today successfully test-fired a new interceptor missile capable of neutralising any incoming longrange missile at higher altitude. The interceptor, positioned at launch pad-IV of Integrated Test Range at Wheeler Island, about 100 km from Balasore in Odisha, roared into the sky at about 9.10 AM to hit its target. The target, mimicking an incoming enemy missile, was first test fired from a naval ship at 9.06 AM and after getting signals from the radars, the interceptor went into action. DRDO Spokesman Ravi Kumar Gupta said, all the mission objectives were met. An official said, the details of the 'kill effect' of the interceptor missile were analysed after retrieving all the data from various radars and telemetry stations.

from the party fold only because he had voted against BJP in the Parliament and now what NC is stating is absurd and blatant lies.” Mufti stated that the people have themselves witnessed how boycott was selectively enforced in Anantnag Parliamentary constituency, giving credence to the apprehensions that NC wanted to use the call for its benefit as it had done in Srinagar in last elections. “This time the experiment of stone throwing was implemented in villages as well. While we uphold the right to call for a boycott but I believe using violence to enforce it is where the government’s role becomes suspect.” Remarking that he is deeply worried that NC congress coalition has not learned any lessons and for secur-

ing victory in elections they are still practicing old tactics that have devastated this state for two and a half decades. “In 1987 it was the same combination that pushed prominent veterans of democratic system who till then believed in the electoral democracy out of the system. This was recently stated by none other than Syed Salahuddin whose transformation from Mohammad Yousuf Shah a candidate in Assembly elections is a constant and painful reminder of how NC Congress combine could stake everything for power,” said Mufti adding that a generation of well intentioned young people too was not just denied entry into electoral system but was even punished for having ventured to do that.Mufti See Mufti on pg 07

NC has lost moral authority, courage to speak up for people: Mehbooba Srinagar, April 27: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti has said misdeeds and malpractices have made the National Conference leadership vulnerable to a level that they are not able to negotiate anything good for the benefit of state, people. Addressing various roadside meetings in Hazratbal segment of Srinagar parliamentary constituency Mehbooba a party (NC) that could not get a mobile services for its state is now claiming to restore the Autonomy and defend Article 370 which is clearly beyond it. She said the leaders who face serious charges against themselves have neither any moral authority nor the courage to speak up for the people as they realize their vulnerability and are comfortable with the luxuries of power. She said they can never take a stand on the rights of the state and its people but resort to rhetorics at the time of elections to impress voters and later kneel before anybody who is in the power at the Centre. On this occasion among others senior party leaders, Asiya Naqash, A R Kuchay and local leader Mohammad Sidiq Mir were present. “During his days in the NDA government at the Centre Dr Farooq Abdullah failed to persuade the Centre to start the mobile service in the state not to talk about Autonomy and other things. But it was Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who made it clear to Atal Bihari Vajpayee that Kashmiris too have a right to communicate through mobile telephony and told him that everything in Kash-

mir should not be looked through the security prism,” she said and added the NC till date failed to get any benefit for the people. (GNS) Mehbooba said Omar Abdullah instead of working to build on the gains of the PDP-led government reversed everything and also by way of his inefficiency and lack of any goodwill helped to further the alienation among people particularly the youth. She said Omar Abdullah banned SMS services, put gag on cable TV and harassed the local press for telling the truth so many times during his more than five years of misrule. She said Dr Farooq Abdullah who is involved in the multimillion cricket scam should have been in the jail if he would have been a politician of any other part of the country. And, similarly, if Haji Yousuf episode would have happened in any other chief minister’s home he would had faced the law. The PDP chief said Dr Farooq Abdullah, in 1996 besides having two-third majority in the state legislative assembly, didn’t work for the welfare of ordinary people but made every effort to harm them by implementing harsher oppressive methods in the shape of Task Force, Ikhwan and POTA. By siding with the BJP at the Centre the NC made huge compromises on the interests of the state by selling the seven most feasible power projects to the NHPC only to get junior ministry’s job for Omar Abdullah. She said it was only with the change of guard in the state in 2002 the See Mehbooba on pg 07

Explosion of Narbal. A police spokesman in a statement issued to GNS said that today forenoon an explosion was reported from Sumo stand in Magam in Budgam district. “The explosion occurred under a Tavera vehicle parked in sumo stand”. “It caused a very small impact on the road and damage to its left front wheel. As a result of some splinters from the vehicle minor injuries were caused to three persons namely Nazir Ahmad Shah son of Aataullah Shah resident of Sheikhwara, Bala, Nazir Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Rahim resident of Ratsunna, Beerwa and Mugli Begum wife of Abdul Ahad resident of Kanihama”, the spokesman said, adding the injured have been provided medical help. Police has taken cognizance of the matter and started investigation into the nature of the explosion. Meanwhile, unknown persons hurled a grenade at Khanyar, Srinagar where Farooq Abdullah was addressing election gathering. However, there are no reports about any injury in the incident. The blast created panic among the people; however, Farooq Abdullah continued his address, they said, adding subsequent to the blast reinforcement of police and CRPF were rushed to the area. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah denied that any grenade blast took place during his father’s rally in Khanyar. “There was no blast at the venue of Dr Abdullah’s election rally in Srinagar. There was a sound that was heard in the distance”, Omar tweeted. A police spokesman said that today afternoon sound of an explosion was heard in Khanyar, Srinagar. “There were no reports of any injury to anyone. Police has started investigation into the matter as to what caused the sound of the explosion. A political rally held in the area concluded normally”, he added. (GNS)

Azad have some time and they (Dr Farooq and Omar) would have not even asked me for campaigning I would have still come to campaign in Central and North Kashmir like I did in Anantnag parliamentary constituency,” Azad told KNS. He said because of his extremely busy campaigning schedule in Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Utrakhand, Arunchal and other areas, he cannot spare any time for Srinagar and Baramulla Parliamentary constituencies for campaigning. “I need four days to and fro for these places and in the same time I will be visiting some 50 Lok Sabha seats and 100 assembly segments.” Thanking National Conference leadership for campaigning for Congress candidates including him in Jammu region, Azad said: “The NC leadership, workers, MLAs, minister and party office bearers worked very hard for coalition candidates in Jammu and Udhampur Lok Sabah seats. The provincial president Devender Rana was always there to support. And similarly PCC president Prof Soz sahib, Congress MLA, ministers and workers worked tirelessly in Anantnag constituency and are working in other two seats of valley to support NC candidates,” he added. He said that though he has no grudges against PDP for fielding candidates in Jammu and Udhampur but their strategy of fielding candidates has directly helped BJP. “Fielding candidates was PDP’s discretion. And I don’t have any complaints on that. But we have a direct fight with communal BJP at national level and with all those regional parties who directly or indirectly are supporting BJP. If they were so keen to contest from Jammu and Udhampur Lok Sabha seats, what PDP could have done was to field candidates from Jammu, Udhampur or Kathua to cut BJP votes in their respective areas. But instead they choose a candidate from Rajouri-Poonch where they had some influence for Jammu against Madan Lal Sharma and a Muslim candidate from Doda to cut Muslim votes and in support of BJP. Even Panthers Party which calls itself very secular fielded its candidates for these elections but campaigned for BJP candidates,” Azad claimed. The union health minister said that win and defeat is a part and parcel of election process. “But throughout the country at present all political parties’ regional or for that matter at national level are divided in two sides. This is like a fight, the world had witnessed between Russia and USA. Similarly, the Indian politics and political parties are divided in two sides secular and communal. Those who support communal forces are supporting BJP. Nowadays I go through speeches of PDP leaders praising BJP leadership, acclaiming L K Advani and Atal Ji for their work. It is actually to pave way to say BJP is good and so is the Modi,” Azad said. On separatists call for boycott in Kashmir, Azad said that poll boycott affects the people of the state and it does not help any political party. “If any political party or religious party for its’ interests bar voters to cast their votes they will be committing biggest injustice with people and the society in general,” Azad said while strongly condemning Tral killings and the attack on polling staff part which had led to death of teacher in Shopian. “Some people are trying to take the state to violence. If on one side India is in danger from BJP the same way it is in danger from the militants,” he added. Referring to political mood at national level, Azad said that Modi’s mood depends on television. “He has in a way hired all televisions channels. Sofar he blame others for corruption but estimates say that he has spent Rs 30,000 crores on his publicity and to hire television channels. Wherefrom, he got that much of money if he has not been involved in corruption, unless he has not given state land worth Rs 20 to 30,000 crores to industrial houses in terms of tax rebates on land and electricity. That is the big corruption. How come these big companies are spending thousands of Crores on him when big industrial houses don’t give a penny to anyone unless they have some interest in it,” he asked. (KNS)

besides Justice Sathasivam. No opposition leader was present at the function. Justice Lodha, who took oath in the name of god, will have a brief tenure of five months as CJI and is due to retire on 27th September, this year. He is heading the bench which is monitoring CBI's probe into coal blocks allocation scam. He was also instrumental in passing orders making CBI free from any political interference. A bench headed by him had said that CBI does not require sanction from the government to prosecute senior officials in cases being monitored by courts. It was Justice Lodha's bench which had ordered that

Zabarwan Times CBI will not share information with the political executive on coalgate probe. The judgement had led to the resignation of Ashwani Kumar as the Law Minister in May last year. He also is part of a Constitution Bench looking into the mode of education of minority schools. Last month, a bench headed by him had allowed defence personnel in "peace stations" to vote in constituencies where they are posted, saying "compulsions of their job" shouldn't come in the way of a basic right. Another bench headed by him had stopped clinical trials in the country, saying the interests of the people were more important than those of pharmaceutical companies. Later, the government framed rules for monitoring of clinical trials and for paying compensation to people affected in the process.

Farooq

was an anti-Kashmir individual by conviction who was an exception in the presumption that a politician would at least have some basic amount of compassion for his own people. “Mufti Sayeed nurtures a grudge against Kashmiris that they have handed him embarrassing electoral defeats from his native constituency repeatedly four times, a loud and clear rejection that forced his rehabilitation in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh as a Member of Parliament from a safe seat there at a time when Mufti Sayeed couldn’t garner more than 300 votes in his own State”, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said. Those who spoke at the public meeting in Khanyar, Srinagar included NC Additional General Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Senior NC Leader and MLA Khanyar Ali Mohammad Sagar, NC Srinagar District President and MLA Zadibal Peer Afaq, MLA Habba Kadal Shameema Firdous and NC Youth President Salman Ali Sagar among various senior NC leaders and functionaries. Speaking at another public meeting in Magam, Beerwah Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that the same elements who are conspiring against National Conference and Kashmir today had conspired against Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah at a time when he was languishing in jails for his people. “My father braved all odds but never disappointed his people. I have in all earnestness tried to walk on the path of my father all my life and I am sure that National Conference and Omar Abdullah will continue to serve the people of J&K with the same sincerity of purpose and patriotic passion”. Addressing the people in Magam, Budgam, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will continue to be united and all efforts by Mufti Sayeed and PDP to divide them are bound to fail since this nation is united in its common ideals of communal harmony, amity, peace and secularism. “One would have never imagined that a political party from J&K could possibly be brazen enough to join hands with Narendra Modi. The very thought was unimaginable until Mufti Mohammad Sayeed jumped into Modi’s lap and started taking orders from him during this election campaign”, Dr. Farooq said. Dr. Farooq Abdullah asked the people in Srinagar and Beerwah to vote in large numbers in favor of the National Conference candidates so that National Conference could continue to be the shield of protection for this State, its special status and its people. Those who spoke at the public meeting in Magam, Beerwah included Senior National Conference Leader Ali Muhammad Sagar, NC Provincial President Jammu Devender Rana, MLC Panchayati Raj Ali Mohammad Dar, Professor Abdul Majeed Mattoo, Mohammad Ibrahim Mir and Sajjad Shaheen. (GNS)

Mufti maintained that Election Commission of India (ECI) has a special responsibility towards Jammu and Kashmir because of the electoral history of this place and impact of any misadventures on the state and entire region. “Unfortunately the (ECI) has so far not conveying an impression that they are even monitoring elections in J&K. There have been blatant violations of Model Code of Conduct which have been reported in media and should have been sou motto taken not of by the ECI.” Mufti added that PDP complained but without even a response. Dr Farooq’s open threat to use bombs and bullets against PDP or use of official machinery and invoking of religion, all have gone unnoticed. “I am through you (media) cautioning against a repetition of 1987 for which we are still paying a heavy price. The failure of their South Kashmir experiment has made the ruling dispensation even more frustrated,” said the PDP patron. He added that in view of the fact that NC is making a desperate bid to retain Srinagar in the face of unprecedented anger against it PDP has apprehensions that NC might try to cross even the red lines that were spared in their previous subversion of the system that included the 1952 elections that remains distinct for being the only one in which even a single ballot was not cast. “I expect the Election Commission of India (ECI) to rise up to the occasion in view of tremendous stakes involved in transparency and fairness of elections in the state. They might try to push the state once again to a similar situation in which no one would want to vote,” Mufti cautioned. (KNS)

Mehbooba

Vajpayee government could take up historical initiatives in Kashmir which got immense relief in the lives of people. And, later, the improved situation on the ground in J&K could help to bring India and Pakistan together. She said it is encouraging to see the people have now understood the politics of the NC which has not only been deceitful but has been always focused towards power. She said there is a growing realization on the ground that it is the NC which has damaged the basic cause of Kashmiris by always tilting towards power and not seriously pursuing the interests of people from whom it has been taking votes from the last 65 years. “Using the people’s mandate to seek power instead of working to uphold the aspirations and sentiments of Kashmiris the NC leadership has served a big blow not just to its own credibility but to the people’s faith also,” she added. Mehbooba said in 1975 NC backstabbed the people by giving up on the ‘Raishumari’ demand without caring about the sacrifices of the masses which they had given on its call; it (NC) repeated its deceit in 1987 by not allowing the enlightened youth to become part of the system. “On both these occasions more than any-

thing else it was the lust for power which made the NC blind to think beyond,” she said and added by rigging the 1987 elections the NC paved a way for a full-fledged armed rebellion in the state and the devastation and bloodbath it brought is in front of us all. (GNS)

Sajad

and the NC have taken upon themselves to sow seeds of a new type of cronyism. “While the PDP has unofficially decided to act as the chief crony of BJP, the National Conference continues to be the official crony for Congress. Ironically it is a reversal of roles. While Mufti sahib was the face of Congress for decades, the Abdullahs have hip hopped from one political combination to another and were the trusted “Muslim comrades” of Modi during the bloodied Gujarat riots. The same Omar Abdullah who was enjoying all the perks of power as a minister during Modi’s rule is now the chief sermonizer of ills of Modi. And Mufti Sahib sees ray of hope in Modi,” he said. Lone said the behavior of these parties is by no means surprising. “They have a history of being means of distortions in the Kashmiri political discourse. And a devious method has yet again been designed wherein the political faces will continue to be the NC and the PDP, but the political content will be dictated by the Congress and the BJP,” he said. Lone expressed hope that the people of Kashmir would understand the ideological indistinctiveness of the two parties in the context of the Kashmir issue. (KNS)

homes and hearths in a peaceful atmosphere and to their full satisfaction about the security scenario is top on the agenda of the government. “Till then the conditions for the community are to be further improved and facilities created in their settlements at Jagati and other places”, he added. Speaking on the occasion, Member Legislative Council Mr Vijay Bakaya said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been endeavouring to better the lot of Kashmiri Pandits and mitigate their difficulties on priority. Mr Bakaya said the party was aware about various difficulties faced by the inhabitants of Jagati tenement and other places and every possible effort would be made to solve these.

PDP’s roadmap for K-resolution is pragmatic, practicable: Baig NC damaged institutions of democracy in J&K: Ansari Srinagar, Apr 27 : Senior Peoples Democratic Party leader and former deputy chief minister, Muzzafar Hussain Baig has said the PDP has a practical and pragmatic approach to the resolution of Kashmir issue and it has set achievable targets for it. According to a statement issued to KNS, while addressing a workers meet at Shadipora along with senior party leader, Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari in Sunawari segment of Baramulla parliamentary constituency Baig said the PDP’s agenda in a significant way is a work in progress and action has been initiated on it way back in 2003. He said it would be revived after the 2014 elections with support of the people in parliament and assembly elections. On this occasion senior party leaders Molvi Aa-

bid Hussain Ansari; Mr Naeem Akhtar, Chief Spokesperson, Molvi Imran Ansari and district president Bandipur, Mr Yasir Reshi, also addressed the meeting. Baig said there was the need of evolving consensus across political spectrum of the country to initiate meaningful dialogue with all sections of Kashmir including Pakistan to resolve all long pending issues including Kashmir. “The aim of PDP to go the national level is to involve all shades political and social opinion in favor of Kashmir so that a broad consensus is built on the core political issue, “he said.
