Ruling party has created anarchy in Sonawari: PDP Reshi calls on Omar, Vohra; briefs them about Gund Jehangir incident Srinagar, July 30: The mainstream politics witnessed a new low in North Kashmir when the PHE officials were allegedly directed not to provide drinking water in areas of Sonawari constituency where Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got a good number of votes in recently held Lok Sabah elections, PDP Candidate from Sonawari Yasir Reshi told KNS. The incident irked Reshi so much that he called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at his residence with his plea against the National Conference minister for higher education and the local legislator Mohammad Akbar Lone. After narrating the whole incident to Omar, Reshi went a step further by meeting the Governor N N Vohra registering his protest against Lone. Talking to KNS, Reshi said that he told Chief Minister Omar Abdullah about the lawlessness prevailing in his area. “I informed the Chief Minister that PDP workers are beaten up and no FIR is registered against the workers of ruling party. Even I narrated the whole incident of Gund
Jehangir village where locals had received five water tankers after some 10-days of water scarcity. But the officials of PHE were already asked not to supply the water to areas where PDP had got 750 votes in recently held Lok Sabha elections,” Reshi told KNS. He said that even his workers including women in Gund Jehangir village were beaten to pulp by the NC workers and police behaved as a mute spectator. “This resulted in full night vigil by our workers outside local Police station. The police did not even register FIR against NC workers responsible for the attack,” he added. Reshi said that the chief minister assured him that he will look into the matter. The PDP candidate from Sonawari added compelled for the helplessness of police administration, he also called on Governor N N Vohra briefing him about the whole matter. “Governor Sahib took up the matter with DGP and assured me of justice,” he added. He said that people of his constit-
‘NC beating its own record of dirty tricks’ Baig condemns attempt at framing innocents, discrimination in water supply Srinagar, July 30: Senior leader and former deputy chief minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig today said the ruling National conference has stooped lower even than its own worst level of tricks against its political rivals in the wake of its humiliating defeat in Lok Sabha election. Addressing a large gathering at Naidkhai village of Sonawari constituency which gathered on the occasion of his visit to the residence of a local respectable, Haji Ghulam Mohammad, who had recently suffered an attempt by the ruling party in collusion with some police officers to plant narcotics in his premises, Baig said NC had gone into total desperation following the defeat. Haji, an influential octogenarian and affluent businessman and philanthropist, sometime back left the NC to join PDP and has ever since been on the receiving end of local legislator's wrath. According to a statement issued to KNS, accompanied by party chief spokesperson, Naeem Akhtar and party candidate from Sonawari, Yasir Reshi, the North Kashmir MP said he saluted the courage of the people who were waging a bold fight against the tyranny of
the NC aided by some police officers who were acting like the ruling party workers. He cautioned such officers who were tarnishing the entire force by their brazenly partisan conduct to desist from such behavior and along with their political masters to read the writing on the wall. Baig informed the people that the matter of planting narcotics in the premises of one of the most respectable elders of the area had been brought by him into the notice of the governor who shared his concern about such criminal misuse of official machinery. He said the attempt was aborted through the prompt action of the local people which was designed to tarnish not just one individual but the entire party and expressed the hope that a vigilant people and cadre of the party would foil any such diabolical attempt in future as well. Baig said NC had subverted entire governance system to somehow misuse it to stick to power. But it doesn't realize that by resorting to such tactics it is only adding to the hatred against it. He cited the latest example of a village Gund-e-Jehangir See NC On PG 03.....
Soz criticizes BJP for ignoring JK, Indian Muslims Srinagar, July 30: Speaking on the Finance Bill, Prof. Saifudin Soz criticized the BJP's approach to Budget Proposals. Prof. Soz said that the Finance Minister had made several assertions such as on Defence, Insurance, Real Estate Investment, Simplification of Tax Administration, Controlling Fiscal Deficit emphasis on Education and skill development. He said he could certainly greet him (FM) if these assertions became his achievements. Prof. Soz said that remembering Deendayal Upadhaya and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was all right, but changing the earlier nationalist nomenclatures was certainly a Sectarian slant to the Budget which does not do any good to the Government at all. Similarly, the BJP's Budget also depicted other areas of flawed vision. BJP's concern for Kashmiri Pandits was all right, (the proposal was forwarded by the J& K Government) but the BJP did not care a bit for solving problems of Refugees in JK State. The Budget offered an IIT for Jammu primarily with an eye on the
vote bank. BJP failed to take notice that Kashmir had borne the brunt of armed militancy and had suffered heavy losses of life and property and the J& K Government had faced extreme financial stringency and could not do much for building lost infrastructure. But, the BJP Government did not feel concerned about it. This attitude was very regrettable. Prof. Soz also criticized Finance Minister for providing Rs.100 crores each to 28 schemes. Prof. Soz rejected this idea as Madarassa modernization was not a panacea for the ailments which this largest minority in India suffered. Prof. Soz stressed that Madarasa modernisation was a running scheme and it was inaugurated by late Indira Gandhi. Prof. Soz warned the BJP Government that it could not shut its eyes on implementation of Sachar Committee's recommendations which also included setting up of a “Equal Opportunity Commission.” Prof. Soz suggested to the BJP Government that Government of India was a See Soz On PG 03.....
uency are fed up by what he called the partisan conduct of police and civil administration. “Even the police does not act if officers are beaten up by the NC workers,” Reshi told KNS. He added that people in Sonawari like other parts of Kashmir have decided to fight the tyranny of NC in order to bring a change in the upcoming elections. Reshi accused the local legislator of misusing his position to engineer political machinations in Sonawari. “He harasses abuses and facilitates torture of my workers,” Reshi alleged. He said that police instead of facilitating fair distribution of water in Gund Jehangir arrested the PDP workers who had been beaten up by NC workers. “What is more appalling is that police does not register FIR against the NC workers who behave like goons. Even I have intimated all police higher ups about this anarchy prevailing in my area,” Reshi added. Despite repeated attempts, Mohammad Akbar Lone, NC leader and minister for higher education was not available for his comment. (KNS)
Govt liberalizes guidelines for obtaining passport verifications Srinagar, July 30: Under the directions of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, the State Government as a people friendly measure had in 2011 simplified the guidelines relating to the issuance of verification for obtaining passports. These guidelines, inter-alia, provide for issuance of verification for passport purposes to the relatives of militants who have died ten years back or have surrendered twelve years ago. However, there is no provision for issuing such clearance in respect of an applicant whose militant relative is still in PAK/POK. Further, there is no explicit provision to deal with the cases of such youth who had returned to the State from POK/Pakistan. Now keeping in view the overall improvement in the security scenario in the State, representations received from the general public, political representatives

Srinagar, July 30: A Hurriyat Conference (M) spokesman Thursday stated that the amalgam is deliberating with legal luminaries and lawyers and contemplating legal action including filing a PIL in the court of law against the dictatorial authorities for time and again laying restrictions on religious activities of Hurriyat Conference (M)Chairman, Dr. Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Umar Farooq on important occasions like during the recent Eid-ul-Fitar. According to a statement issued to KNS, the authorities took despotic measures on Eid-ul-Fitar by placing Mirwaiz under house arrest at his Nigeen residence thus barring him from delivering Eid sermon and addressing thousands of people who had come to Eidgah on Eid day . Meanwhile number of people including lawyers, religious and political leaders, scholars, respected elders and civil society members met Mirwaiz and expressed their dismay over the government decision of putting Mirwaiz under house arrest on the auspicious occasion of Eid. “It is to be noted that Being the chief cleric of Jammu and Kashmir, authorities have stopped Mirwaiz from offering Eid
and in keeping with its citizen friendly policy, the State Government has considered the matter and decided to further liberalize the policy for issuance of verification for obtaining passports. The amended policy provides for issuance of clearance for obtaining passport for Haj/ Umrah in respect of an applicant who had crossed over to POK/Pakistan for obtaining arms training, but has returned, eschewed violence, is silent, has exhibited a good conduct and completed fifteen years or more in the State from the date of his return and on the date of application. Meanwhile, Mirwaiz had to address thousands of people by phone On Eid ul fitr. During his telephonic address at Eidgah, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman laid emphasis on the ongoing political situation and the problems faced by the Muslim Ummah with special reference to Palestine. Mirwaiz also urged the people to remain steadfast viz a viz the Freedom struggle in Kashmir and said that no amount of cohesion or force can deter the people from carrying on their fight for self determination to it's logical conclusion. He also demanded infrastructure development in education, central funding for model schools and model colleges and also generous assistance to create tourism infrastructure. Private Hospitals Charge Exorbitant Rates: DAK
‘Failure to enforce regulations responsible’ Srinagar, July 30: President Doctors As-
sociation Kashmir (DAK) Dr Nisar ul Hassan today in a statement said that private hospitals in the valley are charging exorbitant rates that are unaffordable to patients. Dr Hassan said: “The escalating cost of health care in private sector has severely restricted patients’ access to health which is against their inalienable right.” “The huge rates of private hospitals are in violation to rates fixed by department of health. It is shocking to know that private hospitals charge Rs 30,000 for cesarean as against fixed rate of Rs 12,000. For simple surgeries like cataract some private establishments are charging Rs 30,000 as against fixed rate of Rs 9000.” The statement added: “Private hospitals have transformed health care into a profit mongering company placing the well being of patients in serious jeopardy and undermining the trust so essential to the Doctor-patient relationship. NC where government tankers were instructed to provide drinking water only to the supporters of the local NC legislator and deny it to PDP supporters. This he said left more than half the population of the village crying for even a drop of water and led them to protest. Baig said the police instead of ensuring fair distribution of water arrested the PDP workers who had been beaten up by NC goons leading to a night long vigil by the people outside the local police station. A government that conducts itself in such inhuman manner has no right to stay in power even for a minute and the people of the state will ensure that it goes packing in the next elections. Baig interacted with a large deputation from Gund-e-Jehangir who informed him as to how the 'modern day Yazeeds' were denying the drinking water simply for their political preference. Baig told the delegation that he would ensure that the village got a sustainable water supply soon even though the days of NC Goondaism were to end to the relief of every section of people in the state. He said PDP would carry forward its agenda for good governance, justice and merit, foundations for which it had laid in its first brief tenure. (KNS)
Farooq to see the repeal of the Act.Dr. Farooq Abdullah also appreciated various people-friendly measures taken by the State Government and said that such measures would continue in the future as the interests of the people come first for National Conference. Dr. Farooq Abdullah cautioned the people against those who are out selling half-baked dreams that defy their own pasts and said that such individuals hold nothing but hypocrisy in their hearts and minds. On this occasion, Dr. Farooq Abdullah also prayed for the suffering people of Gaza and said that continued and unabated aggression of Israel in Palestine is only possible because of the sense of impunity that Israel has due to the silence of the International Community. Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that Kashmiris had always stood up for their brothers and sisters in Gaza and would continue to do so in the future. Dr. Farooq Abdullah appealed to Muslim countries to unite in their opposition to Israel’s terror and aggression and stand up for the rights of their fellow brothers and sisters. (KNS)
Ratanpuri grant all these facilities they cannot choosto forget and ignore the pain of Jammu & Kashmir. He mentioned the Media reports regarding the visit of senior BJP leaders and their meetings with some separatists and political leaders outside the mainstream and said that while Uttarakhand by-elections may indicate the waning influence of BJP in its citadels, euphoria remains high in some separatist and soft-separatist quarters of Kashmir. He wished the BJP success in its efforts to rope in those so called leaders of Kashmir to their fold who on many occasions in the past have rejected "anything less than Azadi" but are now eager to share power with the right wing party. Without naming the separatist leaders who are discussing electoral alliance with BJP, he said that it may be an interesting development to watch if they come together. Mentioning the communal violence in Kathua and Ramban, he cautioned BJP to avoid polarization for political dividends in Jammu & Kashmir because that may get the situation totally out of control. The Member of Parliament demanded sincere implementation of Prime Minister's special scholarship scheme for J&K and the recommendations of working groups. Earlier in the Question Hour too he had sought the details of specific recommendations of working groups implemented by the Government of India but again the government was evasive in its reply. Minister of state in the Ministry of Home Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju told the House that the key recommendations having impact on well being of various segments in the state of J&K have been implemented and avoided a specific reply or to mention any particular recommendation that the government of India may have implemented. Opposition to Kousar Nag Yatra:
Govt wants to occupy K-land by creating new pilgrimage destinations: Geelani Calls for protest on Friday, strike on Saturday Srinagar, July 30: Chairman Hur-
riyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani has called for the peaceful protest after Friday prayers on August 1, and a complete shutdown on August 2, against governments move to make Kousar Naag an another “Yatra Destination”. Talking to KNS, Geelani accused government of facilitating revival of old Hindu civilization in Kashmir by creating new destinations for holy pilgrimage. The Hurriyat (G) chairman added that former Governor Jagmohan has explicitly written in his book about Kashmir being the prime location of Hindu civilization. “The authorities now want to occupy our land by creating such destinations and thereby constituting new Shrine Boards at different places,” Geelani observed. He said that his faction of Hurriyat Conference will make people aware about designs behind such Yatras very soon. Terming the decision of declaring the Kousar Naag a new Yatra destination, as destructive for the fragile environment and water resources of the Kashmir, chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference Sayed Ali Geelani called for peaceful protest demonstration after the Friday prayers on 1 august and complete shutdown on 2 August, Saturday against this announcement of the government. He said that this is actually a political decision made under the pressure of the commu-
nal minded people and its only purpose is the cultural aggression on Kashmir. While terming the imposition of curfew in Kulgam area and use of violent force on the common people as the act of state terrorism, Geelani strongly condemned it. Hurriyat (G) chairman said that the communal forces of India are hell-bent upon to disturb the peace in Kashmir and through the cultural aggression, they want to eliminate the environment, identity, culture and values of the state and want to forcibly setup their own culture here. The state government is playing extremely criminal role regarding this issue and instead of raising their voices against this aggression, they are extending their co-operation in every possible way. Omer Abdullah is only concerned with his chair and he doesn’t care about the adversaries and negative effects of this ‘decision in haste’. Geelani said that the Kousar Naag is a very important source of drinking water for millions of people, located at a very high altitude and it is also the only source for irrigating the lakhs of Acers of agriculture land. The presence of the large number of people at this location will not only endanger this important source of water but it can prove dangerous and destructive for the fragile environment of the region. Geelani clearly stated that the people of Kashmir are not against the Hinduism or their religious belief but the making of the Kousarnaag as the new
Yatra destination is actually a political decision and not a religious one and its only purpose is to harm the just freedom struggle of Kashmir and to sabotage the wishes and aspirations of the local population. With these types of activities the mad communal minded people want to give a new impression to the Indian people that Kashmir is the religious issue for them instead of a political issue, so it is necessary for them to continue the forced occupation of Kashmir and it is their national duty to paint the Muslim majority state with the colour of Hindutva without caring for the sentiments of the majority community. Geelani said that the new government in Delhi is following the foot prints of their fast friend Israel in letter and spirit and they are planning to make the new Gaza in Kashmir. They want to make the Kashmiris as strangers in their own land and they have begun to act on those aggressive and oppressive policies. Hurriyat chairman cautioned that the people of Kashmir will resist tooth and nail the nefarious designs of the communal forces and they will not allow anybody to divide the Jammu & Kashmir on religious lines. He said that if the Kousar Naag movement is not stopped, the Hurriyat Conference will reach the people from every walk of life and will present their stand and programme before the public, after consulting civil society, lawyers associations, social activists and the organization for protection of environment. Sangh Parivar has ‘wicked plans’ vis-à-vis Kousar Naag: Shah Calls for post-Friday protests, complete shutdown on Saturday Srinagar, July 30: Term-
ing the plans of Sangh Parivar of granting “shrine status” to Kausar Naag and plans of handing it over to Shrine Board authorities as “open war against Kashmiris”, senior Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir leader Shabir Ahmad Shah has called for statewide protests after Friday prayers and complete shutdown on Saturday in this regard. Terming the plan as “wicked and obnoxious” Shah, who is still under house arrest, said the step is an open war against the people of Kashmir. He said the move will have very bad effect upon the environment. “The water of Kausar Naag is free from pollution unlike Lidder River which has been polluted by Yatris by defecating in the river,” he said. Shah accused Modi government of fomenting communalism in the valley and of mass scale exploitation of the natural resources of valley, all in the name of religion. “This is a moral crime and will have nega-
tive effects upon the environment.” Despite his continuous house arrest, Shah sent three delegations to Kausar Naag, one from Srinagar led by Muhammad Yasin Ataai, Imtiyaz Ahmad and Altaf Ahmad, other from Shopian led by Tanvir Ahmad and Abdul Rashid and from Kulgam led by Bashir Ahmad Wani and Bilal Ahmad. All delegations went to Aharbal where under the supervision of Sajad Ahmad, the locals constituted a committee to protest against the ‘evil plans of government’ with regard to Kausar Naag. All the delegations apprised Sajad Ahmad of full support from Shabir Ahmad Shah and Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir against the move. Shah also applauded Freedom Party’s zonal president, Kishtwar, Moulana Abdul Qayoom for his firebrand speech on Eid against the incessant oppression by government forces on people of Kashmir. According to reports, forces have gone berserk in Kishtwar today. HCJK leader Shabir Shah severely criticized the re-arrest of Muslim League chairman Mushtaq ul Islam who was again shifted to Baramulla sub jail.
Kousar Nag Yatra: NC targeting opponents by police repression: Altaf Bukhari Dar calls for protest on Friday, strike on Saturday ‘Institution of law and order being misused for political interests’ ‘People have decided to drub NC to bring change’ Srinagar, July 30: Strongly condemn-
ing the police repression in Bonaangan Hydepora, Syed Altaf Bukhari senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and party candidate from Amira Kadal constituency, today said National Conference is politically shell shocked at the intensity of anger against it and it is now trying to use coercive methods to target its opponents. According to a statement issued to KNS, while referring to the police’s unwarranted use of excessive force against Bonaangan Hyderpora residents Haji Mohammad Akbar Dar his two sons Zahid Ahmad Dar and Tawseef Ahmad Dar, Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar, Bashir Ahmad Najar and Mohammad Iqbal Dar, the PDP leader said the harassment and victimization of youth was at the behest of National Conference that has lost its political ground due to corruption, mis-governance and exploitation. Quoting the victims of unwarranted police action Bukhari said a contingent of police in civvies had arrived in the area in the evening of Eid-ul-Fitr and went berserk against locals who were busy in their normal work. The police have later started beating locals including some shopkeepers who were later shifted to the hospital where one of the victims received around 15 stitches. Bukhari said that it seems the police at
the command and liking of NC are now attacking the people for no reason or rhyme just to keep their political masters in good humor. “It also seems that the ruling party is now trying to settle scores with the common people through police repression because it is frustrated by peoples' decision to discard NC in favour of PDP. What is more condemnable is NC misusing institutions of law and order for its petty political interests,” Bukhari added. The PDP candidate from Amira Kadal observed that times have changed so has the political maturity of people who have now decided to decimate National Conference in the upcoming assembly elections. “Who can imagine in a civilized society that people busy in their normal work are not spared even on the day of Eid-ulFitr and are beaten to pulp? Even some septuagenarians were beaten severely just to satiate NC’s lust for power,” Bukhari remarked adding that such traditional tactics of NC won’t work anymore as people have now made up their mind to drub this party. He said the change is in the offing and the National Conference will face a total rout in upcoming elections. “What is more appalling is that NC which claims to be representing all assembly segments of the city in Legislative Assembly has repaid kindness of people with mis-governance, negligible development, corruption, favoritism, nepotism, red tapism and above all worst kind of police repression,” Bukhari observed. Through Kounsarnag Yatra, GoI wants to strengthen illegal occupation: Naqash Srinagar, July 30: Senior member Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir while strongly condemning India’s decision of making Kaunser Naag another Yatra destination said that it is a well devised conspiracy of India to further and promote the expansionist forcibly the expansion interests in Kashmir to further strengthen the illegal and forced occupation. “But the people here are well aware about the nefarious intentions of India and will never allow it to happen. They have decided to accelerate the ongoing movement with determination to thwart the ill intentions of India in this regard and will start a strong campaign
and resistance against it,” Naqash said adding further that India is in fool’s paradise in respect of Kashmir but the people and pro-resistance parties are determined to continue the perpetual struggle till freedom from the illegal and forced occupation of India. Naqash while supporting the program against it given by prominent and founding leader of Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir Shabir Ahmad Shah and Chairman All parties Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir Syed Ali Shah Geelani appealed people to protest against it strongly on Friday and observe complete shut down on Saturday. Srinagar, July 30: Senior leader Hurriyat Conference (JK) and chairman JKLF (R) Farooq Ahmad Dar (Bitta Karatey) while expressing his resentment and anguish over the decision of the government, in which it enlisted Kaunsar Nag as yet another yatra spot and has given the permission to start the yatra, said that with the ‘agents and the puppets’ of India sitting in Kashmir, India is trying its best to destroy the natural reserves of the state and are hell bent to exterminate the fragile environment. “We have already have Amarnath yatra going on in the state from decades and which is also hazardous for our environment. The scientists from the state and foreign while doing their extensive research have came up with the conclusion that the Amarnath yatra is like poison for the fragile environment of the state and it has affected the near-
by glacier badly. Kaunsar Nag which is a source of water for valley will also be affected if this yatra is given the green signal, it will surely destroy that water reserve and the population of the state and especially the local population will suffer. RSS, VHP communalising atmosphere in Jammu; BJP adding fuel to fire: Nizami Srinagar, July 30: Lashing out on right wing Hindu groups including Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), VHP, Shiv Sena and RSS, the Joint Secretary of PCC Salman Nizami thursday said that the communal tensions erupted in Jammu region were orchestrated by these parties to gain the cheap political mileage. According to a statement issued to KNS, he said these parties backed by the BJP often resort to communal agenda to divide people when the elections are round the corner. “In 2008, the BJP led Hindu groups set the communal fire across the region and managed to secure some seats. They remained silent for all the six years after that and when the elections are again approaching they create tensions again within the communities,” he said in a statement issued here. Urging people to reject the political parties which believe in communal politics, Nizami said that these parties will again try to engulf the whole region in the communal fire ahead of Assembly elections. “People know these parties have no vision to gain the trust of
common people. They fail to address the aspirations and demands of people in power. But during the elections times they resort to the cheap tactics of inciting people against each other on the basis of religion and region which Congress strongly castigates,” he said. He said ahead of parliamentary elections in May this year, the BJP led right wing people made the similar attempts in Chenab valley and created the communal tensions between Hindus and Muslims to secure the vote bank.
