Separatists have right to call for poll boycott: PDP Srinagar, June 03: Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said the separatists in Jammu and Kashmir have a right to call for election boycott but it is for the electorate to decide what is good for them. "Dissent is the essence of democracy and separatists have a right to dissent. They have a right to call for a boycott (of polls), but people have to think what is right for them," Sayeed said at a function organised here to welcome a former employees' leader into the party fold. Sayeed said there is a need to engage separatists in a meaningful dialogue to address the Kashmir-issue and not to put them in jails. "Democracy is a battle of
ideas. We have to fight the separatists politically and engage them in a meaningful dialogue to find a solution to the Kashmir-issue, instead of putting them behind bars," he said adding, "times have changed and battles are not won by swords." Solution to the Kashmir-issue lies within the four walls of the Constitution, said the former Chief Minister. "Whatever we would like to achieve, we will have to achieve it under the ambit of Constitution. Whatever we have to solve, we will have to solve it democratically," Sayeed said. Kashmir is the biggest issue in the sub-continent and his party will play a positive role to create an environment for its amicable solution, he said. Geelani should contest elections to change the Rule of Law
Some youth join militant ranks out of greed: DG Police Srinagar, June 03: Director General of Police Ashok Prasad Monday said that if Syed Ali Geelani wants to change the rule of law in Kashmir then he should stand in Elections. “These separatist leaders will get nothing from strikes and stone pelting. If they really want to serve people, they should come forward and participate in Elections. Once they make entry into the assembly they can change laws which they find anti-people,” Prasad told Srinagar based news gathering agency CNS adding it is baseless that police harass common people. Reacting to the recent reports about Palhalan, DGP said that police never harassed anyone. “Palhalan was calm and everyone enjoyed freedom. It was only after the killing of Hilal Molvi that police questioned some youth but that does not mean police torment everyone,” he said adding that people must believe in legal system. Ashok Prasad said that the whole population in Kashmir is doing their business smoothly. “Why don’t police harass shopkeepers, shikarawalas, taxi drivers,
Acute shortage of doctors, drugs in J&K: CPI (M) Srinagar, June 03: Jammu and Kashmir unit of CPI(M) on Monday expressed concern over the "acute shortage of doctors and life saving drugs" in hospitals and urged the government to ensure better medical facilities to the people. "The government should respond to the shortage of doctors and life saving drugs in hospitals across the state so that the patients suffering for want of consultations and important drugs are benefited," state secretary of CPI(M) M Y Tarigami said in a statement here. Referring to media reports, Tarigami said the Valley hospitals were currently running short of nearly 600 doctors with around 250 doctors being absent from their
services illegally for the past several years. "Reports suggest that there are 72 Assistant Surgeons, 55 specialists and 62 paramedical posts vacant in hospitals of south Kashmir's Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam and Anantnag districts. It seems that the ministry concerned is hardly bothered about these facts," he added. Tarigami, who undertook a week-long tour to different areas in south Kashmir, said that by just a cursory glimpse of hospitals including sub district and even district hospitals in South Kashmir, one can feel that the health care institutions are being manned by a few doctors and a few para medical officials. "These hospitals are without basic facilities including life sav-
ing drugs, causing tremendous inconvenience to the patients," he said. In many areas, the CPI (M) leader said the preoperation, post-operation, casualty, ward and gynaecological cases are being looked after by a single doctor from evening to morning everyday. "Not only these health centres lack required number of doctors, infrastructure, proper lavatories and water supply facility but due to scarcity, the patients are left with no option but to purchase surgical equipments and life saving drugs from the open market," he said. Tarigami said going by the condition of district and sub-district hospitals, it seems that these health care institutions have been ignored to the hilt.

In the letter addressed to Chief Minister, Khalida writes, “The illegal structure having been raised by one Omar Khalil Nedous in violation of all the existing laws including the Municipal Law has been received with a great shock and surprise to me. The above said offender was asked to stop with the illegal un-called for Construction forthwith but he brushed aside the same with complete contempt against all the norms of decency fair play and Justice.
Thereafter the Concerned Municipal authorities Were approached, who sought a vigilance report and the same was duly examined and explicitly confirmed the violation on 31st may 2013”. “This may be pertinent to mention here in the first instance that I am constrained to bring to your notice about the gross violation of the laws of the land by one Omar Khalil Nedous which was duly examined verified and confirmed by the vigilance team of the Municipal Authorities. Despite this all they have not done the needful as was required under law and it is because of this dereliction of their duties and abuse of their
authority that I am entering into this communication to you as the Constitutional and legal Custodian of all the rights of the citizens of this unfortunate state”, the letter further reads. She has also castigated the Municipal Authorities for alleged inaction against the illegal structure. “Inspite all the efforts having been put in by me, have not yielded any results on ground but a strange, uncalled for and astonishing explanation has been offered by the Municipal authorities that their entry into the compound was blocked by the said offender by taking law into his own hands. I fail to understand as to why legal proceedings

He said that youth are joining militant ranks out of greed. “They are being given money and brainwashed by militant commanders. It is not true that highly qualified youth are joining militant ranks. It is greed for money only that some youth turn out to be militants,” Prasad said adding that the number of militants are the same however their visibility and capacity has increased. “In certain areas of South Kashmir militants are desperate to show their presence. The problem is that they go underground soon after carrying any attack. In fact, they are involved in heinous crimes and there is a need to take stringent action against them. There are about 30,000 surrendered militants out of which some are getting recycled for sake of money,” DGP said.
