The Ethnic Minority Population

BACKGROUND

4.1% of Hong Kong’s population are ethnic minorities (EMs).

Mostly South Asians by ethnicity. E.g. Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Nepali.

IMPACT OF COVID-19

EMs were overly represented in elementary occupations with lowerincome which were impacted by COVID-19. Lay-offs in airport, catering and construction has led to financial instability.

STATUS OF WOMEN & GIRLS

Women and girls tend to have more cultural conflicts around decisions relations to education and marriage.

FINANCIAL STATUS

¼ households and ⅓ children live in poverty.

They tend to have larger family sizes.
