LEARN THE LANGUAGE
Sure, most Dutch people can speak English and like to think they are good at making internationals feel welcome, but it’s always nice to have a handle on the basics. And let’s not forget that knowing some Dutch will also make daily chores like grocery shopping a whole lot easier!

Yes, we know you’re eager to tell everyone back home about all your new experiences. But don’t get so caught up in it that it interferes with meeting new people. Old friends won’t disappear just because you invest some time and effort in new people! And, if you miss chatting with someone in your own language, try connecting with other internationals through Facebook groups and meet-ups. They are a great way to build relationships in your new country while still feeling connected to home.
