SUSTAINABILITY REPORT For the last eight years running, Hello Zuidas, Green Business Club Zuidas and the Zuidas Amsterdam Development Office put together the Zuidas Sustainability Report, setting out the past year’s most important sustainability initiatives and measures. The new Zuidas Sustainability Award will replace the Zuidas Sustainability Report. The award and publication of all submissions on www.zuidasduurzaam.nl will help anchor the myriad sustainable initiatives in Zuidas, share knowledge and provide inspiration for further efforts.
SELF-SUFFICIENT Another case from the report that made headlines last year is the development of the De Puls building. This concept by VORM Ontwikkeling was selected for development of the vacant parcel between the A10 motorway and SC Buitenveldert sports pitches in 2019. Scheduled to be completed in 2023, De Puls will be a sustainable urban biotope with homes, offices and amenities. The building will be wholly energy self-sufficient, generating power via solar panels on the façade and roof. In addition, high-quality energy flows from one tower will feed into the other, so no energy is lost. The municipality is creating a park on the ground floor, and a green rooftop garden will be planted between the two towers.
ZERO WASTE ZUIDAS A notable case from the 2019 Zuidas Sustainability Report was the Zero Waste Zuidas project in which 27 companies committed to make the district waste-free by 2030. The first steps were taken in 2019. One of the great merits of this project is that by joining forces, companies can effectively ratchet up sustainability criteria for waste processors.
AMAZE APP Yet another noteworthy case from the 2019 Zuidas Sustainability Report is the mobility solution Amaze. The tender for Mobility as a Service (MaaS) in Zuidas was awarded to a consortium of Amber, Radiuz, Transdev and Over Morgen. Working together as Amaze, they’re creating an app of the same name that can be used to plan, book and pay for travel. With the Amaze app, you’re assured the best combination for the most efficient journey. Modalities offered include public transportation, shared cars, shared bikes and taxis.
