FASHION SHOW+ZUMBA=FUN!!

Yet another amazing month has passed us by and the count down to chrissy is on!!

couple of months, so if you are interested in taking part in a demonstration, let us know!!!

Let me start with a big huge thank you to all of those lovely familiar faces that came down to last months fashion show at Hampton Park. It was an absolute hoot, we did our demo along with our six brave volunteers!

Anyway these girls just rocked the roof off. Just a minor hiccup: We all had to laugh when halfway through a few routines and flooring moved and we nearly slipped. But like true professional, they pulled it off like it never happened!! … and despite all the nerves!!!... These girls did the most FANTASTIC job! Well done Ladies… also thank you to our Zumba in Melbourne photographer… Julie… she got some great photos… have a look below!

You would never believe what an overwhelming response we had for clients to take part as a dance in the demo. I had invites for everyone and I needed to fill six places, I honestly thought I was going to struggle to get anyone to put there hand up to dance in front of over hundred people and I was really taken aback to have six “yeses“ within a matter of minutes. So I do apologise if you didn't get an invite before all spots were filled. Gosh, I just everyone's enthusiasm!!! We have plenty more event’s like this coming up over the next

This is so exciting our Zumba in Melbourne T-shirt are all set up ready to order, we are so excitied we couldn’t just allow only one design but rather FIVE!!!! If you haven’t already received a Design guide or order form, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we can email you one through or speak to myself or Jason at class to view the designs and collect

an order form! And.. Don’t worry ladies we heard your demands and have gone with “V” neck T-shirts!! Woohoo!!!

The Zumba event is coming along so nicely…. I can’t believe it but I am already counting down the days!!!! I have got sooooo much planned.. In fact too much to fit into the 3 hours… so I am sure it wont be long before we have another event! You’ll receive the invite along with all the finer details and how to order tickets. :) YAY!!! While we are talking about outings…. We’ve had a few clients ask us about a girls night out … to a Brazilian/Latin restaurant… let us know what you think about the idea!! Alright that’s me for now…. Enjoy another issue of Zumba Talk!!

Sabrina has w on herself a dinn er for tw o at t he lovely M oods Resta urant in Berwick …. Enjoy!!

“I joined Amy’s Zumba class 3 months ago and I am enjoying every moment of it! I was slim for most of my life right until I gained 30 kilos during my 1st and 2nd pregnancy. I was able to lose most of the weight after my first child but after the second, my body was holding on to half the weight with a passion! With a busy schedule, I didn’t find the time or at least had excuses not to exercise. When I first heard of Zumba, I thought it would be fun to do, as I love dancing but then again still did not find the time. My daughter came home from school one day with the Zumba leaflet and that was my “Aha moment”. I didn’t want to waste anytime, so I picked up the phone and had a chat with Amy, which has been the best decision I have made in a long time. I love the music and the moves and don’t find any excuses any more for not attending a class. Initially, I didn’t lose any weight but after measuring myself, found that I have lost 6 inches in total, I feel more energetic and toned. I look forward to “Zumbaring” away those extra kilos and inches. Currently I'm not following a strict diet, so this is something I have to work on!! No more excuses to exercise, just enjoying the dancing, the Zumba rhythms and loving the difference!

“Your Brain Is Shrinking By Half A Percent Each Year...”

―What did I come in the kitchen for?‖ ―Who was I supposed to call today?‖ ―Where are my keys?‖ ―Where did I put that thing?‖ ―What was that person‘s name?‖ ―It‘s right on the tip of my tongue…‖

If these questions sound familiar, and if you ever complain about your memory, join the crowd. Forgetfulness is one of the top health concerns for the baby boomer generation. And they‘re not the only ones concerned about memory loss. So why do we begin to forget things as we get older and what can we do about it? First, let’s talk about memory. Memory is the process by which information and experiences can be stored, retained, and then recalled. Without memory, there can be no learning. Memory begins with some sort of stimulus coming into the brain. All raw data is sorted by the brain but only the data with meaning go into storage. Different types of memory are stored differently in the brain. With normal aging, what we lose is not memory in general but a particular kind. We have many kinds. One is procedural memory, which is the how-to-walk, how-to-eat, howto-tie-a-shoe memory. It is memory we use unconsciously, and it is the strongest kind we have. A second is semantic memory, which covers facts. What is a key? What is a book? What is a fly?

-

And a third is episodic memory, which covers experience. Where did I leave my purse? Who was in that

movie? What is her name? This is the type that begins to slip as we age. Why do we begin to lose those episodic memories?

Well, your brain has 100 billion neurons zapping around constantly, sending each other the electrical and chemical signals that make memories. With time, the signals weaken. Our brains shrink by about half a percent a year, starting around age 30 – though we usually don‘t notice any change for years. The kicker– episodic memory relies heavily on the front areas of the brain, the frontal lobes– these are the areas that start to shrink first. The loss isn‘t really that big. It just feels big, because we perceive a huge difference between the brain working at full strength and one running at 90%. It‘s just a slowing down. That detailed memory is not gone, it just takes longer to pop up. There are a number of other reasons a healthy brain forgets things:  Decay—Information we don‘t use or reinforce may simply fade away. The brain registers all raw data but retains only those with meaning. The sharpest decline in memory is shortly after hearing, seeing or experiencing something unless there‘s repetition or other reinforcement.  Interference—New information may bury or replace the old.  Overload—The brain is temporarily overloaded and distracted by stimuli. (This is

There are many techniques you  can adopt that can help improve your memory. 

Stay focused—Learning and remembering require commitment and attention. The more focused you are, the more likely that new information will be retained. Pay attention to what you consider most important. Write down reminders immediately—Take notes, make lists, mark the calendar, or keep a journal.

common in our busy lives.) No longer accessible—The socalled ‗Tip of the Tongue‘ phenomenon. You can recall the information but can‘t name it. Often, for unexplained reasons, the memory will suddenly emerge when you are no longer trying to recall it.

Now, let’s reiterate here that some loss of episodic memory is NORMAL. Yes, normal. Think about it like this, if everything you were ever introduced to stuck in your brain, you would be in big trouble. You‘d be overwhelmed by trivia and useless bits. The longer you live, the more memories you stuff into your brain and the harder it becomes to locate any particular one. So our brain selects those that it needs the least— those episodic memories—to get rid of. After all, how important is that you remember the name of that restaurant you ate at last month? The important thing is that you remember what ‗eating‘ is and how to do it (since this will help you survive in the world). But there are things you can do to improve your ability to retain those episodic memories longer. The ―use it or lose it‖ line definitely applies to memory. No matter what your age, your brain can continue to store new information—if you make an effort to learn and challenge yourself. An active brain produces new connections between nerve cells that allow cells to communicate effectively with each other. These connections help the brain store and retrieve information easily.

Make associations—Connect new information to things already stored in your long term memory.

Repeat the names of people you meet— Listen carefully, then use the name in conversation. Link the first letter with a characteristic of the person.

Have a place for everything—Keep keys, wallets, and other important things in the same place when you‘re not using them.

Visualize—Think of what you want to remember in a particular location or situation. Then image yourself ‗viewing‘ it.
