Setting Up A Fundraising Appeal Zuneth Sattar
Anyone can be moved to set up an appeal to raise funds for a cause close to their hearts.
W
hether this is in response to a natural disaster or an emergency, the nature of an appeal is to get people to contribute towards providing relief to an affected community. Setting up such an appeal can be noble, but various aspects must be considered to ensure its success.
What Is the Need? A clear need has to be present before an appeal is set up. Before any donations can be accepted, there has to be a way of ensuring contributions reach their intended recipients. Additionally, the appeal must have a specific purpose and message about who it is going to help and how this is to be accomplished. Legally, donations received have to be used for the outlined purpose, so the more specific the appeal is, the better.
Partner with Charities Consider partnering with local community groups or known charities where possible, as they tend to have established ways of fundraising and delivering aid. A registered charity may be able to claim tax relief on donations, something an individual cannot do.

Have a Team If connecting with other charities isn’t possible, get a team to help with decision making. Having a team reassures potential donors that the sole responsibility for donations is not on one person.
