Commercial property investment in the UK is a broad market covering a vast array of business types. These business types can be loosely split into four main categories, with several types of investment available for each.


Business Categories The four main business categories are: retail, which includes shops, retail warehouses and shopping centres; office, which includes office blocks and single office apartments, office parks, multi-tenant buildings and mixed-use buildings; leisure, which includes restaurants, hotels, cinemas, fitness centres, and other businesses used primarily for entertainment; and industrial, which includes manufacturing and logistics units, warehouses, industrial units, storage yards, and sheds.

Investment Options Across each of the four categories there are several investment options: direct investment, which is buying a property or part of a property outright; direct property funds, where investors pool together to purchase commercial properties outright; property stocks and shares, which are sold on public exchanges; and indirect property funds, where investors pool funds to buy shares in publicly-owned companies.
