Interview with Danielle Lagrange Managing Director at the Hotel de Paris, St. Tropez Dear ZC readers, We are writing the summer edition and yet no really warm weather! Sooner than later we will all be at the beach sunbathing and sipping icy water while biting refreshing watermelons but meanwhile let us introduce you to some of the creative minds we have come across in the last two months. Anna Halarewicz is a watercolor artist with femininity and sensuality, exactly what ZC loves. During our trip to New York, we discovered Michael Carson, a portrait artist who combines shadows with lights, joy with pain. Joseph Pisani is also American but based in Zurich so his multi-color patterns can be found pretty locally. Art Basel is the biggest Art event of the year and of course ZC wouldn't miss it. Dan Holdsworth is a British artist commission at the Audemars Piaget Art Program. We met also artist and designer Sebastian Errazuriz who designed the Audemars Piguet booth at the Collectors Lounge in Art Basel. But we never forget the films and wanted to review what we did at the 15th edition of the Tribeca Film Festival and to give you a summary of what to watch this summer. In the Raising Awareness section, we would like to reflect the amazing work that Sandra Gojkovic is doing behind The India School Project. Also, ZC had nice interviews with our members Colette Humpreys from Colette Sol and Ute Baum from Vainard Jewellery.

Danielle Lagrange Managing Director at the Hõtel de Paris St. Tropez.
La Vie Tropezienne our activity throughout the year and place importance on the magic of Saint-Tropez lifestyle, both in summer and winter. My teams of course, thanks to them, the legendary Hôtel de Paris Saint-Tropez is back as a top destination. They make the difference and give our luxury "inn" a true soul.
The hotel offers a 'Gourmet Discovery' and a 'Tropezian Retreat' what is it exactly? A journey to the flavorsome and sun-blessed land of the Riviera. Welcome to the kingdom of Dolce Vita! The 'Gourmet Discovery' package includes 2 days /1 night, buffet breakfast, a glass of Champagne or a cocktail of the day at the Atrium Bar, and a dinner special (a 3-course menu with wine pairings)
at LE PATIONATA restaurant. The 'Tropezian Retreat' consists of a 3 night relaxing stay with Buffet breakfasts, a welcome drink at the ATRIUM BAR, a 3-course dinner (beverages included) at LE PATIONATA and a 45-minute treatment at the Spa by Clarins. Two packages to enjoy an enchanting break, far from the crowds, in an arty and cozy atmosphere.
What has the Hotel de Paris Saint-Tropez to offer different from the other hotels? The Hôtel de Paris Saint-Tropez is just so arty. The Hôtel de Paris, the preferred holiday destination for the first celebrities on the French Riviera, has always been active in supporting artistic creation. This season goes under the sign of wealth and diversity with tribute paid to two great photographers whose work is closely linked to Saint-Tropez: Léonard de Raemy (who sublimed the beauty of Brigitte Bardot) and Carlo Borlenghi (who So tell us Danielle, since when have renders all the poetic beauty of the Voiles de you been managing the Hôtel de Paris Saint-Tropez). Tropez seduces you, charms you with its authenticity. An ode to joy, to lifestyle and pleasure throughout the year! Living in SaintTropez is living to the rhythm of Provence. All our teams are committed to making this exceptional establishment in the heart of Saint-Tropez glow in every season and circumstances with simplicity and elegance. How did your previous experience in the Hotellerie business help you to be where you are today? My career has taken me to Cuba and Spain as Sales Manager of the Accor Group before becoming Hotel Manager of the Sofitel Nicolas de Ovando in Santa Domingo, the Sofitel Quiberon Thalassa Sea & Spa, the Vichy Spa Hôtel Les Célestins and La Réserve in Geneva. Key positions that have enabled me to discover top of the range luxury Spas and hotels and at the Hôtel de Paris SaintTropez, an encounter with Mrs. Simone Dray, the owner, opened up the enchanted door of this legendary establishment.
If you were not at the Hotel de Paris SaintTropez, where would you be? It is a question I have not asked myself yet but when I will genuinely do so, I will already know the answer. To be followed! Which are your favorite beach clubs in Saint-Tropez? As a "daughter" of the Atlantic Ocean, I favor wild and wide-open beaches. In this area, I love to discover deserted creeks or a small isolated beach where I can bask in the sun and swim in the wonderful Mediterranean Sea. What to say of the mythic Pampelonne beach clubs? Impossible to make a choice: each establishment proposes its own specificity with its own charm and its particular history. What are the typical local souvenirs we should be buying when visiting St-Tropez? Saint-Tropez is beyond all fashions! Perfectly embodied by the Brigitte Bardot of the sweet sixties, the Saint-Tropez style is the carefree incarnation of what is natural, elegant and casual. Today, although Saint-Tropez has become home to the major international brands, a dozen Tropezian designers impose their timeless style. For over 80 years, ankle sandals by K. Jacques and Rondini, hand-crafted in Saint-Tropez have been worn by families and international stars like Kate Moss, Michèle Obama, Carla Bruni... Swimwear by Vilebrequin, Kiwi or more recently by Scalise Bains de Mer, created in town or on the beaches of Pampelonne, has enjoyed international success. Les Canebiers, a new
design company in Saint-Tropez revisits with authenticity the 'Saint-Tropez des Près' from François Sagan to Roger Vadim. This is also the mecca for leading luxury fashion brands and inspired designers such as Gérard Sené, L'Espadrille Tropézienne, Bosco...as well as those creating fashion: L'Adress, Frisson Lingerie, by Mademoiselle.... More than ever Saint-Tropez is the ultimate in fashion. And let me not to forget our gourmet friends with the famous Tarte Tropézienne and Sénéquier white nougat. Where do you travel during your winter holidays? I take advantage of my holidays to go back home and spend time with my family in the Bordeaux region. Having spent ten years in the Caribbean, it is also true that I love warm-weather gateways and and the comfort of luxury spa resorts where I can relax and enjoy treatments. What would we find in your fridge? A bottle of Champagne to share with friends but most important, a bottle of Bordeaux, Saint-Estèphe precisely, in my cellar. A must for a lady from Bordeaux! And finally Danielle, which item identifies you? More than an item, my identity, a bottle of precious perfume: Coco by Chanel.

very great journey begins with a dream. Joseph‘s abstract paintings are inspired by philosophy, psychology and his extensive travel. The notion of travel energizes his writing, scratches and tally marks in this metaphorical journey yet limited period called life. Canvas, paper and wood are used as materials to define an experienced traveler yet artist who transcribes these experiences into abstracts and sculptures. Some of Pisani‘s art work is currently on exhibit at the Galerie Maxime Groosman in Zurich or on his website.

BULLETIN RAISING AWARENESS The India School Project By Sandra Gojkovic
I
n India, girls are married off early, parents are not aware of the importance of education, school standards are low and children are forced to work to help their parents in earning a living. The India School Project is a non-denominational and politically neutral charitable association headquartered in Switzerland. It invests in the education and well being of disadvantaged children and their mothers in rural, underdeveloped villages on an island in India. As it is self-funded and reliant on donations, the association members work on a voluntary basis. We met with Sandra Gojkovic, founder and president of the association, who explained to us her views on the cause of urban poverty and her approach to tackle it at the root: I learned that the circle of poverty has its roots in the rural areas, far away from the well-known slums of the big cities. Low living conditions in rural villages cause people to hope for a better life elsewhere and so they migrate to large cities where few succeed in finding a better life for themselves. Most emigrants end up in miserable slums and are forced to continue their lives begging. Our support, therefore, had to be based in the rural areas, so that help can be offered where it is most needed , while simultaneously easing the burden on the overcrowded urban slums. At present 150 children, divided into five classes, are being educated at our primary school. The curriculum is based on a holistic approach, which stimulates the cognitive, social and emotional growth of the students. Apart from the main subjects of maths, English and Bengali, extra-curricular subjects, such as dance, singing, sports and yoga are taught. Furthermore all students are served a daily warm meal. This has a positive effect on their performance and serves as motivation for regular class attendance. Last year our school obtained recognition and was listed in the official school directory by the state government.“
28 / ZC Art / July 2016
EDUCATION SUPPORT PROGRAMME Given the fact that the drop-out rate at public schools in India is amongst the highest in the world, we have decided to partner with two of the public schools in the project area, which are in a very bad state. This is how our second project came into being. We provide daily tuition and breakfast to an additional 150 primary and secondary school students for which we have received special status by the local government as all final year students passed the state exams. POULTRY FARM SOCIAL BUSINESS In 2013, I moved to Bangladesh for 3 months to study Social Business under The Nobel Peace Prize Winner Prof. Muhammad Yunus. This led to another venture: A poultry farm social business, which generates income and provides employment to villagers. So far, we have created 20 jobs, which contributes to the improvement of the economic situation of the entire project area. WOMEN EMPOWERMENT As we believe in a holistic approach, we are about to set up a tailoring training center/ Social Business to provide training as well as employment to women. They are the nurturers of the family and spend their profits on the whole family. Their income therefore leads to more literate children and less child labour as their are not dependent on additional income.
„Low living conditions in rural villages cause people to hope for a better life elsewhere and so they migrate to large cities, where most end up in miserable slums. Our support, therefore, had to be based in the rural areas, so that help can be offered where it is most needed“ Sandra Gojkovic, founder of The India School Project
HOW YOU CAN HELP US Thanks to the combined effort of a team of 20 employees in India, as well as a board of 7 members in Switzerland and the UK, TISP became a functioning reality. Simultaneously, without the support of private donors, foundations and volunteers in Switzerland and abroad, we could not have executed our work. Therefore any kind of help is highly appreciated. If you wish to make a contribution, kindly visit our web-site: www.theindiaschoolproject.org or directly contact Sandra Gojkovic: sandra@theindiaschoolproject.org ZC Art / July 2016 / 29

Amsterdam's best-loved escape is the 47-hectare Vondelpark – English-style gardens with ponds, footbridges, winding footpaths, and sculptures including Picasso's The Fish. Other urban idylls include De Pijp's Sarphatipark, and, on the site of the city's former western gasworks, Westerpark, adjoining the post-industrial Westergasfabriek cultural complex. Historic structures shelter thousands of species at the 1638-established Hortus Botanicus gardens.

Amsterdam has some world class museums including the Van Gogh & Rijksmuseum, both recently re-opened after extensive refurbishment. The Stedelijk and Scheepvaart (Maritime History) Museums have also both opened again after years of renovations.
