EDITORIAL

Dear ZC readers, Zurichsee Connections is an international platform for women in Switzerland. We believe creative people deserve press recognition and ‘The Art of ZC’ delivers exactly that. So here we come with our 3rd edition with new contents and inspiring ideas. Not only the world of Arts but Culture, Entertainment, Fashion, Travel, Lifestyle and much more! Every two months we will present artists who got our attention and left us with a willingness to know more about themselves. In this issue, a female pianist took us to a Cinderella world. A private collector showed us that art knowledge is timeless and effortless when you do it with passion. Some picks from our past exhibitions brought back memories of our happy days last June in Basel. We also wanted to present the variety of good films to watch during autumn in Zurich. And finally, a choice of travel destinations as a perfect get-away. The 5 senses magazine is taking shape and we love it!! Enjoy! Maria Flames

Love and Faith in Music

W

ith her extensive repertoire and sensitive passion for music and improvisation, the 37 years old pianist and singer Patricia Seidl creates a warm and exclusive atmosphere at aperos, dinner parties, weddings, galas and corporate events. As an experienced musician, she plays every style of music, from classic and jazz standards to pop ballades and blues creating an exceptional listening experience. While studying, Patricia played on events with 4000 expectators as a classical pianist. She was also a winner of the „Jugend Musiziert“ competition in Germany. As a pianist and singer, she performed in restaurants, bars and hotels such as „The Dolder Grand Hotel Zurich“, „Terrasse Restaurant & Bar Zurich“, „George Bar & Grill“, at Galas like „Presseball 2015“ (Kongresshaus Zurich), „Kispiball 2014 and 2015“ (Baur au Lac Hotel Zurich) and „Unternehmerball 2015“ (The Dolder Grand Hotel) as well as on corporate events like e.g. in the Private Member Club "Cercle de l`Union Interalliée" in Paris. Patricia concentrates in composing her own music and likes to collaborate with other musicians in the jazz and pop business. The artist lived in Munich, Paris and London before moving to Zurich 8 years ago.

What do you enjoy most about being a musician?

Where do you like performing? I love performing at special occasions such as corporate events, launch of new products, birthday or christmas parties, weddings, vernissages, galas and charity events. But I also enjoy playing in restaurants, bars, golfclubs or hotels. Meeting new people and networking, that makes it always memorable and adventurous. I am open for everything new as long as it fits to my style of music.

Bringing emotions to people and feeling how they react or relax. Touching them in their heart and soul. Our world is so stressful, but it also needs timeouts for people to relax, to stand still and to rethink. Music is the language of human being without barriers, music connects, music is therapy. I can feel it when I see people around me while performing, specially kids. Sometimes they are enchanted and look at me as if I was a princess. I hope my own daughter will also value music as I do. It`s a big part of our family life and enriches us a lot. I also enjoy passion and enthusiasm, conscious of my inner endless creative source, feeling free in my mind. You always look so glamorous and classy, is image of a musician as important as performance? Yes, of course. The whole „package“ of an artist is important, not only the quality of the performance but also the look and behavior are very important. Like a product you want to offer, it needs to be sellable from the outside (packaging) as well as from the inside (quality). And the image is, what an artist makes so special, when it comes to collaboration with companies as a testimonial or brand ambassador for advertising reasons. A strong personality and a professional character are the keys of a successful partnership as well as the accomplishment itself as a musician / artist. Sitting at the piano or on stage is also a perfect place to express my personality with fashion: classy, sometimes a litte extraordinary, I love big glam dresses as well as leather trousers with high heels, but it always has to be a little bit sexy. www.patricia-seidl.com

rban, young and spontaneous, these are the words that come to our minds when we think of Graffiti. Born as a rebellious movement of the early 70‘s in the neighbourhoods of North Manhattan, Bronx and Brooklyn, graffiti came out as new written self-expression for the emerging artists. Some years later, the same force and creative power came to Europe to constitute Graffiti as a world phenomenon. These days, graffiti has entered the life of art galleries, museums and private collectors. A small hint of a marvellous private collection for delight of graffiti lovers.

INFLUENTIAL WOMAN TALK

Melanie Thiel Sales & Marketing Director of Andermatt Realty in The Chedi Residences Andermatt

M

elanie Thiel was born 1971 in north-western Germany where she also went to school. From 1990 on she spent 2 years in France working at different locations in the fields of tourism, event and real estate. The following 8 years she has explored the tourism and hospitality industry with focus on sales and marketing. After this extensive experience, including a large travel agency, an international tour operator and a global hotel chain, she changed business and started working in real estate sales – in Germany and internationally. Since early 2011 she lives in Switzerland and has fulfilled different tasks around the Andermatt resort project. In 2013 she joined Andermatt Realty for sales and marketing of The Chedi Residences Andermatt.

first interview and get to know his vision deeply impressed me – and I am proud to contribute my own little share in the success story of Andermatt. What is Andermatt Realty?

So tell us Melanie, what brought you to Andermatt? The call of a headhunter at end of 2010 helped to bring the best of two worlds together: of my private life – as my partner already lived in Switzerland, because I love the mountains and I am addicted to ski; of my professional life – as I can use my expertise from tourism/ hospitality and real estate. Both together are ideal for promoting the amazing Andermatt project. Meeting Samih Sawiris at my

Andermatt Realty is a real estate brokerage firm specialized in the sale of The Chedi Residences Andermatt and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Swiss Finance and Property, an alternative investment and advisory firm based in Zurich. The Chedi Andermatt is one of Switzerland’s most talked about real estate projects in recent times. The contem-porary 5-star luxury hotel and apartment development, set in the natural beauty of the Swiss Alps, comprises 50 hotel rooms and 119 residences for sale. Why these exclusive serviced apartments are so special? Created by award-winning architect Jean-Michel Gathy, The Chedi Residences Andermatt are impeccably presented and completely furnished,

combining the traditionally alpine with contemporary design. The Residences are an integral part of the The Chedi hotel and owners enjoy numerous benefits, such as hotel-services, the membership to the private 2’400 m² spa, the playing right for the 18-hole championship golf course in Andermatt, covered valet parking and discounts on food, beverage and spa treatments. With all of the services and amenities proposed, ownership at The Chedi offers a true “privilege of ease” – nothing to worry about your home in the Alps and simply enjoy yourself and the other interesting people in this amazing place.

What does this Andermatt ski resort offer that distinguishes from the others? First of all, Andermatt is not only a ski resort. The Chedi Andermatt is open 365 days and the authentic village of Andermatt is a year-round destination offering a broad choice of activities throughout every season. It’s located on 1’444 m of altitude and in winter it is one of the most snow-se-

cure spots in the Alps. The ski area goes as high as 3’000 m and the Gemsstock mountain has everything a sportive skier or freerider may dream of. Nätschen, Gütsch and Sedrun offer a good mix for all skier levels. Currently over CHF 100 Mio are invested in the ski area for an upgrade, modernization and a direct connection between Andermatt and Sedrun. Guests and owners at The Chedi benefit from a ski-in/ski-out situation as soon as the new gondola is built in 2016. The ski-arena Andermatt Sedrun will become one of the most modern ski areas in Switzerland over the next years! Andermatt itself is very easy to reach, having the motorway as close as 6 km from the village. From Zürich you need by car only 1.15 h to 1.30 h. Additionally access by train is also very easy. What do you like doing in your spare time? Sport is my favorite – you may find me on the Andermatt golf course or on skis at the Gemsstock. Since spending most of my time in the mountains, I also discovered hiking and climbing for me. After work, the amazing fitness at The Chedi is a great spot to get the “head free”. After many years of pause, I recently started again playing the piano. Besi-

des that I love cooking and meeting with friends.

Which is your favorite holiday city destination? I am less of a city traveler – but recently Hong Kong was a great experience. In Europe I like visiting for example Lisbon, London and Vienna. What can‘t you live without? My friends and the mountains. What would we find in your fridge? Always champagne – the next opportunity to enjoy a “Cüpli” never is far away. Besides that I love Swiss specialties such as cheese and dried meat. Fresh items are always seasonal vegetables and salad. And finally, what item identifies you? I am and always was crazy about foulards – I love wearing colorful silk foulards with nearly any outfit.

B Corps - the accelerating global movement of people using business as a force for good One of the most powerful and exciting global movements today is B Corp or B Corporation.

Background: This movement started in the USA in 2006 and there it has changed laws in 31 states where now there is a legal format for Benefit Corporations. In 2012, Sistema B launched in South America and last year B Lab Europe was founded to start providing the certi-

pipeline.

These companies compete to be not only the best in the world but also best for the world. B Corporation is for business what Fair Trade is for coffee; this certification provided by B Lab. Certification helps companies to be better businesses and more sustainable companies. Today, in order to thrive, all businesses have to highlight their commitment to the public as socially and environmentally responsible organizations. How can consumers differentiate between those that are truly committed and those companies that use it as a marketing tool? The B Corp certification helps consumers to identify the real change-makers and assists investors in making both money and a difference. Some examples: an eyewear company (Warby Parker) that disrupted the industry and serves the poor by using the buy one- give one model: an online bookseller (Better World Books) that recycles used books and funds local libraries and global literacy, an outdoor apparel company (Patagonia) that stewards the environment, an ice cream company (Ben & Jerry’s) that maintains its mission after it has been sold to a large company (Unilever). There are over 1450 Certified B Corporations globally in 42 countries and 130 industries and it is growing by the day. Although many of these corporations are small or mid-sized, there are larger companies joining this movement such as Natura Brasil, Triodos Bank, Etsy, and Kickstarter.

How do companies become certified?
