SYNTHETIC FIBERS Polyester is a manmade fiber, synthesized from petrochemical products like ethylene glycol and dimethyl terephthalate by a complex process called polymerization. It’s wrinkle resistant, easy to clean and dries quickly, but its production uses huge quantities of water, chemicals and fossil fuels. Unlike polyester, recycled polyester uses PET as the raw material. This is the same material used in clear plastic water bottles, and recycling it to create the fabrics supports a sustainable environment. This process of converting PET into recycled polyester uses 3353% less energy than the production of normal polyester.

Our love for the environment is the heart of our production processes and it’s why the selection of our materials is key in creating the products you love. Using fabrics made exclusively from recycled materials is our small and humble gift to create a better world for all of us to live in.

Fiber is made into products.

MERINO WOOL The most natural, functional fibers on our planet grow without external influences all year round. Merino wool is the product of water, air, and grass and if you compost it, it will biologically degrade in around 3 months — disappearing completely into the ground. Easy to clean, thin enough to prevent itching, and strong enough to not tear, Merino wool is a functional miracle best supported by the following “inner values.” The nucleus delivers breathability and moisture absorption, while the top layer is hydrophilic — meaning it stays nice and dry. The structure of the inner protein molecules destroys bacteria before they can cause odors. The fiber core is helix-shaped and is what makes the wool so elastic. Durability is provided by the cell membrane, which is under constant pressure. The downside is that Merino wool has been associated with a poor production process. Mulesing is a method the eliminates the problem associated with the Australian Blowfly, but also a method that inflicts pain on the sheep. BUFF® strongly dissociates from this method and makes sure all of our wool purchases are from suppliers that do not use this process.

INSECT SHIELD® Technology applied for a long-lasting, effective personal insect protection. A proprietary formulation of the insect repellent permethrin provides an odorless and invisible non-harmful effect to our products tested active after 70 washes.
