I was a big fan of all the kids around Vermont that were killing it, Lucas Magoon inspired me. When I was young, he grew up right near me and was killing it. Also Luke Mitrani always inspired me so much with his boarding and positive attitude. I was always more inspired by personality over pure skill. Also I wasn’t really the kid getting snowboard videos or anything, I was more the kid trying to go boarding as much as possible. I guess you could say I was inspired by my friends. There is no telling what will come after snowboarding for me, but for now I know I want to learn and experience as much as I can, take advantage of every opportunity and create as much as possible, whether that be through, snowboarding and skateboarding, art, photography or design, whatever. I like to think of every part of life as an art project. E X PLAI N WHAT PART O F THE SEAS O N IS YO UR FAVO RITE A N D WH Y ? That question seems too big to answer with mere words. I feel like my life didn’t really begin until I started skateboarding . It gave me everything. Skateboarding is like punk and jazz so naturally I Love and accept everything from punk to jazz because of how skateboarding taught me to see the world.
Ever have an idea or weird dream and wonder, where the hell did that come from? Sometimes shit would pop into my head and lead to something really cool that involved the participation of other talented people thereby creating something way bigger than the sum of its individual parts…All from one random thought, a random thought that I could in no way ever take credit for because it just popped into my head from somewhere else or somewhere within. Thats what the new album TRANSMISSION.ALPHA.DELTA. represents. We are all transmitters and receivers. What you do with your signals depends on you.

What else is a poor boy to do but sing for a rock n’ roll band? I hated school but loved to learn. I was pretty much a street kid at 17 but had the world all to myself. Now I am a rich man that doesn’t need the money to prove it . Hopefully I can keep getting away with this for a couple more years ..
I wanted to do something with my friends that was easy to do when drunk. Plain and simple. I work my ass off at everything I do. I give rides to old people waiting for the bus and I love trying to be a pretty damn good father - so lemme have a couple drinks with my boys who rip at what they do and let me sing weird space cowboy songs til’ the sun comes up and my old lady yells at me. I play with Mr. Chris Stein, bass player in Saccharine Trust, Mr. Buddy Darling who plays for the Darlings and Mr. Kris Comeaux.

What was the l ast surf trip you went on ? I just got back from Tahiti. It was my second trip out there, water was so beautiful and we got fun waves. G i v e u s a s to ry o f on e o f t h e s c a r i e s t ti m e s w h i l e on a s u r f t r i p… Two years ago, I was on Oahu for the Volcom Pipe event and it was maxed out with third reef waves washing through. I paddled out after the event was over for the day and it was absolutely packed with people. There must have been 200 guys out and as soon as the last heat ended, I jetted over from the channel. My goal was to get the first wave and I did...I took off on an 8ft first reef wave and got launched from the top, did a somersault, put my left knee through my board, and slammed my head and back on the reef. I got 7 staples in my head and found out 2 weeks later that I had fractured my patella and had a hematoma on my spine/lower back. Scariest and most beautiful wave on the planet. W h o Do Yo u H a n g W it h ? Po i n t b r e a k s o r b e ac h b r e a k s ? I hang mostly with my brother Mike and my girlfriend Leila Hurst. Always a fun time, the time when we’re all together. Then all the boys at home, Chewy, Matty Mo, Dayto, Josh Rat and good ol’ Nate Yeomans from San Clemente.
I grew up surfing beach breaks and jetties, so I would have to say beach breaks but that’s hard because points are so fun when no ones out.

A typical day is wake up in the morning, get the coffee goin’, check the surf and if it’s good, wakeup Mike (which is a mission in itself, he’s nocturnal and edits all night) and then we go film. If the waves aren’t too good or after we’re done, I head into work for my pop’s construction company. He’s a carpenter by trade and now works as a building contractor, so it’s been fun learning to work with wood. W h e n d i d yo u g e t i n to s u r fi n g ? W h o i n t r o d u c e d yo u to S u r fi n g ? My dad got me into surfing when I was about 10 but I didn’t get hooked until I was 12. I played baseball for 9 years so surfing took the backseat until I won my first contest at Bay St. in Santa Monica when I was 15 and from then on, I dropped all sports and it was on!

Yeah! Mike is crazy. We started out small with a normal video camera at lowers and he was always editing skate videos with his friends, so it all evolved from that. He has always had an eye for capturing emotion, so he would always be filming birds, scenery, etc. and I didn’t really understand it all until I started seeing his edits. He’s super passionate about filming and stays up all night editing (he forgets to sleep) and I’m just as passionate about surfing & the ocean, so it’s a crazy combo and we’re really grateful for it. We have recently been saving up clips for our first ever surf movie “REACH”, which will premiere November 8th 2014.
